If your ever back there I highly recommend the covered arcades (you can find them mostly along the street opposite the castle main entrance) I also recommend a tour around the manor of the castle (not the medieval castle as fun as that is but the actual Victorian house).
Also for welsh cakes if you go to Cardiff market (off the main street entrance is under a wall mounted square clock) there is a stall that makes them fresh, can't miss it due the que for the stall. Also the market is an example of a traditional town market and an excellent fish mongers.
If your there for longer you could also try going for a walk along Roath park (which is more in the suburbs but is accessible via bus). Has a rose garden, Lake, large kids playground, botanical garden, and hot house (including turtles and whistling ducks).

Next time you visit Cardiff Bay, you absolutely need to walk the full route around the Barrage. It's a small piece of land that connects Cardiff Bay to Penarth and is about 1.5 miles long. It's a great walk in the sunshine, popular with dogwalkers, skateboarders, cyclists etc. It's also a great picnic spot and there's a free outdoor play area for the kiddies as well as a bike rental at the start of the trail.

Wales (Cymru) really is unique, and Caerdydd (Cardiff) is the youngest of Britain's capital cities. I remember by first visit there, to sing, back in 1958. Something which caught me by surprise when, during our school exeat after Christmas, I stayed for 10 days with one of my roomies' family in NW Wales. One of his village chums was of African descent, and it was a shock for me to hear this black kid speak Welsh all the time. My own background had me speaking Kibukusu, Sabaot, Kiswahili, and English before I started school, but somehow hearing a black agemate speaking an ancient Brythonic language, as the mythical Merlin or Arthur would have done, just blew my mind. Your kids might enjoy learning a few phrases of this ancient British tongue too, if only as part of a class show and tell exercise. Keep up the great work, mzee.

You gotta get out west. First the Gower (just past Swansea), then the south west (round Milford Haven). But the best is up north in the Snowdonia National Park. I know you're mad for sheep. Wales IS the country for you. Central Wales (right bang in the middle between Tredegar and Builth) is a picturesque wilderness sprinkled with sheep and the odd house here and there. Edit. Elan Valley (near Rhayader) is very picturesque. It's where Birmingham gets its water from. IIRC Welsh villages were flooded for the reservoirs.

As a Welsh person, it's great to see people coming from outside the UK and Europe to Wales, I think that Wales is often so overlooked, so very glad you enjoyed it! What I would recommend in the Cardiff/South Wales region is:
    - National Museum of Wales - has a bit of everything and is free, also the building is very beautiful!
    - Cardiff Castle - slap bang in the middle of the city, it's big and beautiful and also has some WWII civilian bunkers to explore
    - Bute Park - Cardiff has a huge and beautiful park right behind the castle, worth going to on a nice day
    - St Fagans - it's a museum made of buildings from across Wales so it's built like a small town - very fun and it shows Welsh life from across the ages, it has a recreation of a medieval royal throne room, Celtic roundhouses, some pretty farmhouses too
    - Llandaf Cathedral - beautiful cathedral just outside the city centre, the entire Llandaf area has a villagey feel and is quiet and peaceful
    - Barry Island - a short train ride from Cardiff, whilst the fairground isn't really worth visiting, the beach is great
    - Castell Coch - to the north of Cardiff, a cool castle on the hill, with tall pointy roofs, fairytale vibes
    - Caerphilly Castle - In the town of Caerphilly, this castle is huge, with a moat and a tower that's leaning because of a botched demolition job from the civil war.... Caerphilly also has some famous cheese which is worth trying
    - Big Pit - a former coal mine which has been turned into a museum, quite a fun day out

As many have mentioned there is a lot more to Wales than Cardiff. You said English is the first language and you're technically correct but further West into Ceredigion and places like Newcastle Emlyn and Lampeter you will find Welsh being spoken as the first language. There's also Aberystwyth on the coast which is a lovely University town. Central Wales is more sparsely populated but the countryside is stunning. If you're planning to travel around Wales just give yourself plenty of time as there are few major roads. And don't forget to visit the Mumbles in Swansea - you will love Joe's Ice cream - and then the Gower peninsular for some more beautiful scenery.

Ahh my home town. YOu should also head into the main town area by the castle.
FYI Quay is pronounced Key, as in a platform next to water.

Hope you come back again. There are loads of places IN Cardiff to visit. I live there. My favourite place to visit is St. Fagans Museum of Welsh Living. It's free to go in but you pay for parking. There are loads more. The National Museum in the City is a must too. Did I mention? That's free to go in too.

Welsh cakes are very nice. Similar to English scones, but flat, and a bit sweeter. I've been thinking of visiting Cardiff. I'll be sure to pop in that shop and get a bag of Welsh cakes. Lovely with a cup of tea, or coffee.

Im gonna Recommend West Wales towards Pembroke but also down by Llanelli as you can find People Still Picking Cockles in the Early Morning. Another Place is Penarth Pier as they Have a Boat Ride on the Waverly (Last Ocean Paddle Steamer) and the Balmoral which both sail down the Bristol Channel with stopping points on the SW English Coast..

If you can get to the Brecon Beacons National park on your next visit you won't regret it. Also near Merthyr is the Big Pit which was a working coal mine, the guides are ex miners. Usk and Crickhowell are really pretty. Your family are the cutest ❤️ ( also Quay is pronounced 'key')

You can visit slate mines. That metal lump one of your sons is playing on is an old mooring where the age-old ships would have tied up. Tiger Bay is where many African sailors and immigrants first arrived in Britain. Welsh cakes - lots of variants with currants throughout the UK. Eccles cakes. Chorley cakes. Mostly northern. You can try the varieties on your travels. They’ll have you eating seaweed next - laverbread. I got sunstroke in Cardiff once. Should have worn a hat.
Cheddar Gorge might be a good trip. A drone’s eye view would be terrific. You can visit the caves where ancient man lived and where modern man finishes Cheddar cheeses.

Really enjoying your videos and perspective of the UK.
If you are planning to visit the Elan Valley reservoirs in Mid Wales it’s worth going in April when the water levels are usually high and the water cascades down the face of the stone dams.

I'm so glad you enjoyed the bay! I'm from Cardiff, I absolutely love seeing people come here and enjoy it. If you're ever back you must spend a day in the city center, I'm sure the kids would love the castle. If you plan it they sometimes have special events such as jousting re-enactments. I remember when I was around 10 it was Roman day and they gave all us kids roman outfits to wear with foam swords and we had a play battle. Also there's loads of nice places to eat, a fantastic place called Bake Stones in the indoor market to get all different kinds of Welsh Cakes, normally still warm when you get them. The museum was another favourite when I was a kid and it hasn't changed much, the dinosaur exhibit is fantastic. Plus you've got indoor rainforest mini-golf. Hope you come back again!
