- If you struggle with the birds, butterfly caterpillars and snails devouring your prized young plants, then using hoops and netting your beds with the right kind of netting, could be the solution.
In this video, I show you how I do it step by step and give a complete breakdown of the equipment you'll need. See links below for my suppliers.
You don't need any fancy tools, just some basic equipment that will last for many years and can be reused season after season.
Imagine no more bird damage and hardly any caterpillar or snail damage. It's the dream, right?
Join me on the allotment, and happy growing.

Great instructional video! As a first year gardener i've already learned so much from your channel. You explain everything with patience and precision and it's all so tidy and neat.
Thank you Albertje, I am glad the videos help and I hope the new garden is going well.
Great video I never knew that about the ends I just weigh mine down with bricks be using that way from now on haha made me laugh in the video half way through filming morning 😂😂
Great nets Chris, have you considered clamps instead of bricks and I have seen people use zip ties to secure the endings (like a ponytail). Wonderful to see things doing such amazing progress. Have a fab day, Ali 🌞🇨🇦
Oh my, you left this comment 3 weeks ago, I'm so sorry, I think I'm loosing it here... time goes by so quickly. I have seen people use clips and zip ties but they're just more things to buy and remove so I don't bother. I took the nets off today to let the bees in, so fingers crossed the beans are still standing tomorrow 😂
@@veggieplot totally ok and understandable Chris it’s an insanely busy time of year 👍👍
I have a very similar system with my hoops only I was given a coil of 30ml pipe and due to the wind I have bungee cords to keep the netting tight around the raised beds.
I think that’s a great idea, I presume it works well for you?
@@veggieplot I found putting wood and blocks was damaging the netting and making a habit for slugs., I have blue pipes and much rather the black as it looks less industrial.
great vid .do u know how long it take sart roloise to ripe they seem to take forever to ripen this is my first time to grow them
Hi Con, sorry for the late reply, I am guessing they have ripened by now. What did you think?
@@veggieplot they sure have lovely tomatoes .they are .and moneymaker .tks
What length did you cut the water pipe to ?
Hi Anthony, sorry for the late reply. I can't remember but next time I am up at the plot, I'll make a note and let you know. I depends a little on bed width but I'll check that too.
@@veggieplot brill thank you I tried
To do the same set up but must have cut the pipe to small
