It's probably supplanted by the EG Gundam in this role in some respects, but this HG GM was always the one I'd recommend to people who wanted something a little more practical than scratch pla-plate to experiment on and practice. It's quite cheap and quick to build, and you're left with an open canvas: Plenty of seam-lines to fill, lots of open areas for scribing, or whatever you want to do. The back head camera can be solved by snipping a bit of the clear green runner flag to size and gluing it in, and you can always drill a hole in the dummy beam saber handle to fit your dozens of spare saber blades. :)
Lots of potential for customs using the GM/GM and Origin GMs! I'm already happy looking at a repainted one I made almost 2 years ago. This classic GM just needs more effort but will still make a great custom
As a newcomer into this hobby, I just built this, being the third kit I've ever built(first being an EG Rx-78, second was HG Zaku II), and I have to say this felt really good and easy to put together! Nice video as always, man!
ive been into gundam for about 4 months but ive built 12 kits. this GM is by far my favorite purely by vibe. its so simple but gives off an awesome classic MGS anime feeling
I really like the smooth low-detail style of the older HGs. It looks very anime accurate and if I wanted a bunch of small details that's what RG is for.
The way the joints do together makes fixing seem lines an absolute breeze on all the early HGUC GMs. The price and ease of construction makes it the perfect kit practicing painting or any modelling techniques really.
@@r1l426 "Anime accuracy! The box is wrong!" Talk about your bad stereotypes for anime nerds. A comment about preference was answered with a with whining about anime accuracy. Great job reminding me why the model kits are cool, but the fans are not.
2:29 For those of you who are first-time builders like me and couldn't find your foil sticker, it will be in one of the plastic bags the runners came in. Thankfully, I hadn't taken them out to the trash yet and was able to dig it out and apply it.
I've built 2 of these now and have the white dingo recolor left to build and I love this kit. Super easy and quick build (2 runners), perfect for a first kit.
I’ve recently started building and painting the older HGUC sets and I absolutely love them. These are the sets I’ve built. • HGUC 001 RX-77-2 Guncannon • HGUC 007 RX-75-4 Guntank • HGUC 021 RX-78-2 Gundam
The GM was my first kit and my favorite mobile suit. I also believe that this old Gundam shield design is superior when compared to the Revive or Origin.
@@tankmaniac9054oops. Sorry. Didn’t mean to get your hopes up. When I said revive, I was referring to the rx78-2 revive shield. Since both used the same shield in there first HGUC kit.
Definitely old and a bit stiff, but it's a GM lol, it doesn't have to pull off crazy stunts. Perfectly normal to have a bunch just standing there in not-so-dynamic poses. With that said though, can't wait for the HGTO GM.
having built one of these old boys not that long ago definitely makes me appreciate and look foreword to the upcoming origin gm's(both pbandai and gen release) set to release a few months from now
I've now built this kit 3 times since the review there. Twice with the base version, and once with the recolor that comes in the GM/GM II/GM III combo pack from the Gundam Base Mobile Tour (Still working on finishing the set up). The recolor seems to be a slightly more saturated version of the minty white/green that the EG RX-78-2 Full Weapons Set has, with a brighter red yellow is hard to tell, but the frame stuff is more of a very dark green rather than gray.
Untill the recent updated first.grades and even the 30mm line in general, this was the kit I would have recommended anyone wanting something to try gunpla for the first time. The cost, minimal accessories and the fact you are working with a grunt suit means you can safely mess up and still work with it. The one thing I am glad to never see again is the fixed shoulder and hip pegs. They snapped off too easily, and weren't easy to fix.
i recently built this and the ecopla kit. very nice and simple kits. my only complaint are the lack of hands. but you can easily solve that by buying the hand accessory kits. oh and the toothpick beam saber, but to be fair this is an old kit and everyone has extra beam saber blades laying around
This could still use the Revive treatment, but it definitely needs the EG treatment. Can you imagine the whole battalions and customizations that would result from that?!
I have the 2020 Beyond Global RX-78 but one of the legs is loose for some reason (it stays on but doesn't support the upper body's weight) so I'm putting together an action base for a flying pose.
Or cut the toothpick blade off and then drill a hole into the handle and then you can use your spare beam blades. And drill a hole into the other beam saber handle and then you can double wield. The possibilities are endless.😊
Bandai released some new waterslides for the GM to make them into some versions of the GM. Like White Dingo etc. Since you have the GM cannon conversion part you can make the White Dingo version of that GM Cannon.
I need to find a copy of the original RX-78-2 and the GM from those times. The GM kit doesn't have a clear beam saber part. Are both of these kits available ZakuAurelius? Where can I find both?
thanks for this review I haven't been sure if I should get this because I worry it might have been really bad or alright for grunt suit because a lot of the promo photos ive seen are really bad non-dynamic poses
Huh? Out of nowhere. This kit's pretty crusty especially in the knees but I like it, especially as a GM main in Evolution. I've got the new Origin GM pre-ordered
This really could use a HGUC Revive though. HECK, I'm surprised they didn't make when when they released the RX-78- Revive. Though for that price, great army builder, that's fer shure

You dropped this, 👑
GM/GM is probably my favorite. Origin gms will probably best it now that origin has a normal gm as a standard kit
I'll definitely be getting two of the Origin GMs!

My first Gunpla was this past Christmas. This GM was my 26th build so far. I got an addiction.
I love the GM line of mobile suits because they look like they are constantly worried

Despite the age of this kit, I still want 3 of these, for Grunt MS are always fun as a squad
I always loved the mint plastic on older kits
Couldn't agree less. It makes them look like toys instead of scale model kits.
@@simpleanswer8954no, it makes them what they're meant to.
@@paulheap1982 Then why isn't it that color on the box? Oops.
@@simpleanswer8954because the box is wrong, it's mint in the anime.

As much as I love the new GM Origin kit, it would be awesome if the HGUC original got the revive treatment.
Honestly, we need an revive version of our gm boi❤
Yeah and with modern tech it won’t need any stickers or paint
Honestly this kit is solid for a 23 year old kit. Having just built mine. That being said i like this kit

Got this guy not too long ago, very surprised to find out that there aren't a lot of classic GMs in the HG line.
Fortunately they’re all pretty solid though from my experience!
I bought an ecopla of this during my trip in japan, at diver city. that black sticker on an all black kit is still amusing to me.
love this kit, I got like 4 of them!!!

Great kit for squad building! Very cheap! 👍
Can't wait for your GM Cannon Conversion video!

I just bought the gm so its great to see your video
I just wish it had thigh/hip swivels because other than that it's pretty good for the time. A good army builder, cheap and easy to make :)
Can’t wait to see the full conversion!
This could still use the Revive treatment, but it definitely needs the EG treatment. Can you imagine the whole battalions and customizations that would result from that?!
An EG would be awesome
I just buy it! This is my first hg mobile suits kits
This kit is fantastic I built it before super easy build
These old kits appeal to me because they're great practice for seam lines and you get to the painting pretty quick. And of course, dirt cheap!!
Totally! This is a great kit for those reasons
This was literally my fastest build ever. Put one together a few weeks ago.
Another solid kit that I personally would recommend is the HG G-Bouncer. I love it. Waiting for the Origin GM!
A lot of great kits in the HG AGE line! 👍
Cheapest and easiest HG to build to date, just next to the HGUC Guntank
I have the 2020 Beyond Global RX-78 but one of the legs is loose for some reason (it stays on but doesn't support the upper body's weight) so I'm putting together an action base for a flying pose.
Very much considering getting the resin gm cannon parts but put them on my hg GM Command to make the GM Command Cannon
Just drill a tiny hole in the dummy saber so you can fit a spare saber blade in and just toss the toothpick.
That’s also true!
Or cut the toothpick blade off and then drill a hole into the handle and then you can use your spare beam blades. And drill a hole into the other beam saber handle and then you can double wield. The possibilities are endless.😊
I bashed one of these with an EG Gundam to make a EG GM, it looks awesome, was a cheap project, and it taught me a lot!
That’s awesome! 👍
If there isn't already, there should be a conversation to make the gundam revive into a gm revive
Bandai released some new waterslides for the GM to make them into some versions of the GM. Like White Dingo etc. Since you have the GM cannon conversion part you can make the White Dingo version of that GM Cannon.
It looks like the face and forward camera might work with putting an offcut of the sticker behind them.

I like the GM gundam cause it is like the original gundam and has little weapons but it is still good
