Flat-headed mayfly nymphs (Heptageniidae) are nymphs with a flattened shape and dark color. They have a flattened head and body, broad heads, robust legs, and three or two tails. Their gills are rounded or leaf-shaped.
Heptageniids are mainly found in fast-flowing streams, but some species can be found in still waters. Their flattened head and body allow them to cling to rocks without being swept away.
