Stephen is one of the hardest working drummers in the business!!!
How the fuck does this have less than 600 likes out of all the views? Do ya'll understand this man is a rhythmic GODDAMN genius? And is sexy as hell? I love you Perkie.
Always found Stephen Perkins to be so sonically creative, a true madman of the aleatoric and rhythmic science.
Badass drummer that lets the music come to him.Too bad theres not more drummers like this.
sparkdog 494 spot on mate. His drumming in Porno for Pyros was the most colorfully connected sort of rock tribal drumming I ever heard. The first PFP album. Staggering. Heroic. Pure art at its best.
My dream is to just chill with Stephen Perkins and play drums all day
My favorite underrated drummer in rock
What I like, is that he let the drums actually "sound", you can hear the different "notes", this solo breathes a lot !
2:35 damn amazing tone on those toms. They sound perfect.
Perkins is amazing.
his playing speaks for itself. that drumset sounds amazing, dw should be proud, just lovely at all dynamic ranges
My favorite drummer of all time... not just for his technical chops, but the creativity and passion is palpable. It's a unique sound that is unmistakably Stephen Perkins.
Ya know? It's almost impossible to fathom that a guy in his 50's, who lived w/ coke and heroin junkies for years is in that good of shape and can still rock out that unholy. Bat. Shit crazy on the drums like a bull in a China shop. But it is his profession right? Doesn't take Too many breaks from the regimen I suppose even during down times. Greetings from Cleveland Stephen! You're a beast!
Stephen's a Master of his craft. Rock On Brother.
Absolutely insane! Gotta be about the best drum solo I remember ever hearing
Check out Danny Carey's live Pnuema on here
Great drummer, and his kit sounds really good.
wtf this guy is nuts!!!! ie best drummer ever!!!!
Simply one of the best.
Just saw some of his playing in Count Me In (Netflix). I became an instant fan!! I’ve also enjoyed watching other solos, but Stephen’s, I could watch all day!! His passion flows & you can tell he loves what he does🥰🥰
Stephen Perkins kept this one rocking from start to finish. Not many drummers have a lot of good ideas on their own or know how to compose a solo with structure, melody, and cohesiveness. Even some of the world's best drummers can be boring without the proper music to bring their talents out. Stephen nailed this solo. All bobble-headedness aside, this was a solid performance.
Really,really well tuned kit....
Sonically perfect.....
Dude takes his vitamins.....
One of my Top 5 favorites!!! Love Perkins!!
This was extremely enjoyable to watch. Mr. Perkins has a masterful musicality on the drums that is lacking with some of today's contemporaries. A true musician of the percussive world, just like his obvious major influence shows in this performance, a.k.a.the professor himself, Mr. Neil Peart..
I've always loved his playing and his creativity. Plus, he's a super nice guy (met him once).
He really gives this solo his all. Awesome!
outstanding .
Holy shit. Sold.
@brain. Jane's Addiction, porno for pyros, banyan, hellride, panic channel, infectious grooves, are some of the bands he is/was in. Stephen is my favorite drummer. He is always having a blast pounding his kit and that's what it's all about
WOW. Those drums sound soooo good;-)
Maaaan Perkins can WHIP!!! Love@1stBeat...
Perkins is one of the greatest
Love it!
Hellyeah Mr Perkins! :D
this is some badass shit
Amazing.Big Neil Peart influence there.Perkins is a Zen master!!!
I just made a comment in the last video about SP when drumming in Porno for Pyros as being the most musical drummer I have ever heard. Then he explains just this right at the beginning. The man is a drum genius. It’s his cymbal work that sets him aside.
Awesome, working the pedal & sticks on the tympani! And the rest of it, too!
pure awesomeness
Loving it !
i loved it
That`s AWESOME !
WoW!
Tim Alexander has always been one of my favorites. Some of this guy's grooves remind me of him. This is most excellent.
He acts like he's mad at the world but it's all Love
ENERGY.
Nice work out!
Sweeet...and nice tone on those drums.
Everytime I see that episode of Regular Show about the drum solo, all I can think about is Stephen Perkins being like "Pssh.. Pleeeease."
So creative

Excuse me while I scoop my face off the ground.

Stephen Perkins is doing a live interactive masterclass with Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp on 9/14!! You get to actually talk to him live person to person, it sounds really cool. www.rockcamp.com/masterclass.php
does ur neck hurt after you play?
HEbatt bgt ... drumer wong bulle
😳😀❤️
keep ur head still
@BRAIN3AT3R I know his big claim to fame is/was Jane's Addiction but I don't know what other projects he's involved with.
His head moving so fast than the camera cant even get him
Get the Fuck outta Here. So good
how do you tune your toms?
His drum tone is killer!
this solo makes me want to be a better drummer.
You think he's feelin it?
That's basically the drumming from 3 Days
@TheMonkeyboy84 Jane's Addiction.
This is the man that played the drums on One Big Mob by the Red Hot Chili Peppers instead of Chad Smith.
His head movements are driving me crazy
He is so California.
Bruce Willis plays drums??
Professor PhD Perkins 😮
@BRAIN3AT3R jane's addiction
Thats what i thought a drum solo should be, if the rest of the guys where doing their part it could be just another song
he reminds me of Mike Terrana for some reason.
I love Flea and Chad's musical chemistry, but I feel like somehow Stephen would have been Flea's musical soulmate....
This is why I play drums! 👌
It would be utter chaos. One of them would have to restrain a bit.

Ouch my neck :)
Obviously, very Neil Peart-inspired, in terms of a "melodic solo."
RIP Professor
if he didn't move his head, then he would probably got hit by his own drum sticks xD
bobblehead; redundant; great pro hands
Not redundant. It’s in a form of rhythm to keep the physical body and psyche in time and connected. In a way similar to the movement of a cats tail.
@@HNWRobertPaulsonHNW Bore-ass boring: Restated!
Just like a Dead show
it looks like his head may come off..
Awesome (of course). But the video-sound could use a little equalizing, is too dominant somewhere between 150-400 Hz.
now that my friends is a Jewhawk!
He's my favorite drummer EVER. That being said, I don't think this is a great solo. It's basically 16th notes through 90% of it. It sounds more like a song vs. a solo.
Wtf is that drumset💀
Another YYZ ripoff. I heard a little Didacts and Narpets as well. The live Jane's Addiction album from '87 he's brilliant on. The studio stuff on Nothings Shocking was too overdubbed. He's got great feel, even at fast tempos. This solo was decent. Would have liked to have seen some snare work.
Watson A Naim l don’t understand it - he’s LAME.
