You did a fantastic job with this one!! One of the best herping videos I have ever seen, and trust me I have seen a lot😉 Hopefully more people will find your channel and support you!
That species of grass snake does frequent Zoom calls with its Hognose cousins in the US, which is where it got the idea about playing dead... true story...
Excellent film! Truly captures the excitement of tracking down and finding European snakes. Also noticed I had not subscribed with this account yet! Rectified! :)
Congrats. We sometimes forget to mention our species of Europe because we are attracted by more exotic species. But we have in Europe amongst most spectacular species not for size but for patterns. What could we say about Vipera kaznakovi or dinniki what shows sometimes orange or red colour. I remember that Vipera ammodytes ruffoi show an incredible almost silver colour and some specimens of Vipera ammodytes ammodytes are sometimes grey, brown but also beige and pink! So much variation in the coloration. And what say about situla. Ah I forget to comment your fantastic footage about Lachesis, so beautiful images about a so elusive species.
Apart from the amazing and beautiful snakes, it's good to see many youngsters being interested in wildlife, with love and passion and respect towards mother nature. Heart-touching!
I know nothing about snakes and have never had any particular interest in them but this has become one of my favourite youtube accounts. I basically watch every video.
I saw the video and thought, oh no, 122 minutes. That's too long. Then I started watching it, and 122 minutes later, I thought, oh no, that's too short. Best video ever. I'm from Australia but I was lucky to find a Balkan and Nose horned on my trip to Croatia, on Hvar. Both were adults. Excellent job on the video guys :)
I live in Mostar and in the Mountains her was so many Nose horned Vipers.. I have seen Hundrets of them in my live... And the people have a secret Legend to this Snake, the snake can jump 3 to 5 Meters... I have never see a jump like this but sooo many people say he was see this unbelievable jumps.. Legends never die
Hi guys! You should come to mountine Velebit in Croatia and you would see thousends off nosehorned vipers and there is one more venomeus snake called mountine yellow circle but it lives on higher altitudes of Velebit and it is pretty rare. Anyway nice video. Regards from Croatia.
Thanx for the Warning. I love to play portable Amateur Radio Outdoors at remote Places of Mother Nature. In most Cases Snakes going to see me long before I notice they are around and they going to escape. But you never know what happens...sometimes if you come across a sleeping Snake she gets scared and might strike at you just to protect herself. Always have an Eye open where you move around and never try to touch or catch one of these Snakes if you not familiar with Species. On europeansides I never had an Issues with venomous Snakes but in SoCali I got bitten twice by a Rattlesnakes. So be careful - Life can be over very fast. Thanks for your fantastic Job & happy Weekend. Greetings from southwest Germany. Uncle Günter waving a Hand into Croatia 💯🙋♂
Great to see! Have been at the exact same spots few times..once we found down at the lake a large ammodytes..was surprised..didnt expect it in that habitat. What time of the year was your trip??
Thanks great film. I too thinks it great to release a snake in the exact spot where you find it, when possible of course. Is it true that in the right conditions a Balkan whip snake can reach over 2 meters in length?.
Thank you! Yes, absolutely! It is important to release snakes back to their home range. An exceptionally large Balkan whip snake can have about 130 cm!
Excellent documentary. The only thing I would challenge is that the western whip snake can only be found in Croatia on the Balkan. We definitely have them in Macedonia as well (or something extremely similar)
Thanks for watching! The Western whip snake is indeed not native to any other country on Balkan peninsula except Croatia. We know about one introduced population on some Greek island.
since you were here you could have tried for the three pointer and find all three venomous species living here in Croatia. But, tbh, vipera ursinii is super hard to find, I saw it only once
Jinak i krom jedačů a pavouk štír mě něco kouslo bodlo ale kousnutí od cca 130 cm blavora kde jsem držel myš za ocas kousnul mě nejhorší bolest a držel jak zakousnuty korovec.
@@LivingZoology Hey, usually you should be able to activate ALL languages for subtitles after you've uploaded a video. There's a dropdown menue in your YT-studio section. You just have to activate all languages and then all users are able to watch that video with subtitles in their preferred language.
A question, the hat with the banded rock rattlesnake that David is wearing, was that acquired at the Rattlesnake Meuseum in Albuquerque, NM? I have the exact same hat , and that's where I got mine

May i ask which island you found the adult snakes? Looking for my next herping trip and i'd like to spot vipera ammodytes
They were not on the island, on the mainland.
Brilliant video, thoroughly enjoyed it, so much so, I didn't realize it was nearly an hour and a half long. Subscribed!!

That nose horned viper is crazy! How are these not more popular?
Beautiful species, right!? Maybe it is not so popular because it lives in Europe.
