    Africa is home to many amazing venomous snakes. This continent has many ecosystems. We will explore deserts, savannas and rainforests of sub-Saharan Africa. The last, third episode is about venomous snakes living in rainforests. We will begin with a scene where the Brown forest cobra (Naja subfulva) encounters chickens near a village. Then we will visit coastal woodlands, which are home to Eastern green mamba (Dendroaspis angusticeps). Another green mamba species is the beautiful Jameson's mamba (Dendroaspis jamesoni). This episode also shows three species of bush vipers. The first one is the Great Lakes bush viper (Atheris nitschei) from mountains of Albertine Rift. Green bush viper, also called Variable bush viper (Atheris squamigera) is the most common bush viper species. The third species is the Rough-scaled bush viper (Atheris hispida), a rare and secretive snake. Later we will show you the Rhinoceros viper (Bitis nasicornis), one of the most beautiful snakes on Earth. A closely related and also deadly venomous snake is the Gaboon viper (Bitis gabonica). You will see a big Gaboon viper hunt and kill two mice! The episode finishes with a scene focused on snake export topic.

      We are very proud that we could work with locals in Uganda for several years and show them how to value snakes in another way than just selling them abroad. This hunter is now our friend, we financially support his kids so they can go to school and he educates locals about these animals :) It is great to see that some snakes are coming back to their natural habitat.

      We filmed this footage during several herping trips to Africa 🙂 We both studied zoology and we know how to search for snakes and work with them in order to get a high quality content 🙂

      @@LivingZoology how long did it take you ? I mean so shots you must have followed those snake for ages.
      And getting such clear shots at not disturbing the snakes is amazing.
      Some serious zoom lenses.

    man, pangolines are one of the coolest animals ever
    PS. That allways repeated thing about gaboons having the longest fangs, I doubt that very much. And also, what it is, a record or average. Is it two snakes of same lenght, of same age....its all messy. Also gaboons are VERY curved while bushmaster for example have almost straight dagger like fangs, which are longer almost allways if we measure in straight line fro the root to the point
    PPS. That rhyno was stunningly beautyfull, and that jamesons mamba was super dark, crazy, colourwise not even looking like a mamba

      Thanks for watching! The longest fangs of the Gaboon viper measured were we believe 5.5 cm long, bushmasters have just a little bit shorter fangs. We agree that those Rhino vipers and Jameson’s mambas look awesome!

      @@LivingZoology a gaboon of five cm fangs, and bushmaster of four, bushmaster injects venom waaay deeper. That five cm gaboon fang is going maybe at three cm depth, they are just that curved

    They have horns to protect from head-on attack by other animals ....the horns stab into the predators head when they try to bite down.

    • @LivingZoology
      @LivingZoology  Рік тому

      The horns are basically weird scales and they are not hard and strong, you can bend them with a small stick.

      @@LivingZoology The horns make it much harder for another snake to eat him. A lot of snakes like (Cobra - King Snake) hunt other snakes exclusively. Perhaps there was a time when he was on the menu.
