The year was 1966. Eigth grade, my first crush was Lynn McNabb, gorgeous brunette. Kempsville High School, Virginia Beach, Virginia. My favorite memory was listening to this song while we were playing records in her room. My first kiss. Wonderful memories. Odd coincidence, the woman I would marry 11 years later was also a Lynn. Just destiny, I guess.
I graduated high school in 1967, music in the 60s was great. However, I didn't listen to this group because of the plethora of rock groups during that period. My mistake. I am addicted to this song.
Saw Jay at the park a few years ago with his son. He still has that amazing voice. As he got older he good better. Be safe. Missing you on the oldies show with TJ.
Absolutely this whole band's success is because of Jay Black I didn't realize there was anybody else no other Jay can do it that's ridiculous they had the same name
You have to hand it to those turtlenecked troubadours, Jay and the Americans(sorry for being fifty years late with that one) for persisting through all the trends as long as it could with a good choice of material and a way of performing it. You have to hand it to UA-cam for keeping the work of artists out there when most radio, especially oldies, is dropping it from rotation. A good fun pop song lost in the classic rock shuffle.
They should just start a new group instead of replacing ppl and saying it's the same when it's not. FYI She Cried is one of the most beautiful songs ever recorded. TY Jay Traynor.
Hello, this is a excerpt from HULLABALOO (NBC) aired on 2/2/65/, Host Paul Anka. I do not know why so many people confound different shows from the 60´s like "Shindig", "Hollywood à gogo", "Hullabaloo" and others because there are complete different styles and assistants.
On this day in 1965 {March 3rd} Jay and the Americans performed "Let's Lock The Door" on the ABC-TV program 'Shindig!'... Three months earlier on December 26th, 1964 it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #11 and spent 10 weeks on the Top 100... And on February 8th it reached #1 {for 1 week} on the Canadian RPM Top Singles chart... R.I.P. Jimmy O'Neill {Shindig's host, 1940 - 2013} and Jay Traynor will celebrated his 70th birthday in 27 days on March 30th...
What I like about this band, is that not only of their choreography, but jay's voice, he has a tremendous strong Verbrato!!! man that is so good!!! I try it, but all I get is the fake shake in my voice, Lol!! then I do the shiver with my chin shake, Lol, when I sing their song!! HaHaHaHaHaHaaaaaa!!! Great singing they all have!! I Love It!!! ;)
have to agree..my older sister was really big into both groups so I heard them both as a kid, and actually loved them both..you don't have groups like this anymore, guys who can actually sing..
What on Earth happened to the audio's quality? Surely it was recorded better than what we are hearing. So how does it go from (very probably) having fantastic sound quality, to this distorted, congested mess?
It's "Shindig." Click the link for a glimpse at Jimmy O'Neill's photo. www.latimes.com/entertainment/la-xpm-2013-jan-14-la-me-jimmy-oneill-20130115-story.html
One of thier better tunes, and gotta' love the cool mid-60's suits and choreography !! Class acts like this have been extinct for too long (class people too, by the looks of the SkidRowJosephine comments -- grow up, little girl...)
Does ANYONE know who the woman is in the video Let's lock the door - shin Dig TV show? Was she a groupie, a stalker? If she was put there on purpose, what was the purpose?
I'm 3 years late, Scott, but if you freeze the video at 2:16 , you can see the back of the headstock. My screen is a bit fuzzy but I'm sure I can see the extra tuners indicating a 12 string.
i use to like this but it's sounds lyp sync compared to the other clip where someone cracks. live is the best. live live, not live sync. but jay and the americans are still the best when it comes to vocal power next to the frankie valli and the four seasons
Jay Black...not the original.. Must have Mafia connections because he acted like he kissed the floor that "the Teflon Don" walked. Liked the original guy better.

I am in my 20s so obviously I didn't grow up with this music, but apparently I like it better than today's music because it is objectively better
Thanks for posting... but that's from Hullabaloo, great track.

RIP Jay Black. His music lives on!
Wish we still had this good music.
As Randy Jackson says- "dude you can sing the phone book" jay can sing anything- dam what a voice!
RIP, Jay. Thanks for the wonderful music and memories.
Jay Black and the American's were such a great fit and produced many great songs together.
The guy third from the left is Kenny Vance.
Saw Jay at the park a few years ago with his son. He still has that amazing voice. As he got older he good better. Be safe. Missing you on the oldies show with TJ.
You mean at THE Park???? I'm glad I am a MIND-READER and KNOW exactly WHICH park that is!!!
Jay Black = a very under-rated singer.
I was a teenager back then, and of all the songs this swell group made, this was my favorite!!!
Just say NO to drugs!
Was so much fun Bill Colby when we hung out at Horatio st. In village, drove round in your limo& had a blast!! Sorry Richard was jealous of you!!!💋💋💋
Awesome group and a great lead singer.
Sonny....YES!! David Blatt was the BEST "Jay" from jay & the americans!! He turned 81 this year.
@@babasheeny7023Jay Black just passed away about 3 years ago.
He had a fantastic voice!
No wonder he was known as "The Voice."
Jay Black was so much better than the original "Jay"...this entire group's success revolves around Jay Black's voice.
And so much better than the new faux Jay singing with the original Americans. He is a poor substitute and can't hit the high notes!
His voice range is Awesome, Spot On :)
Absolutely Jay Black was the only Jay as far as I'm concerned he was""" The voice"". Awesome voice
Absolutely this whole band's success is because of Jay Black I didn't realize there was anybody else no other Jay can do it that's ridiculous they had the same name
Back up singers are a dime a dozen...it's Jay Blacks beautiful voice that made it all happen! God Bless you Jay!!
One of the best groups of all time
Was great to b a teenager then.....Another pride of Brooklyn.......And we changed the world.......
I was also a teenager in Germany at this time. The best time and music ever.
When I hear this song & so many others how can anyone compare any other decade? 60’s very best!!
What a voice classic
your correct...one god given voice that will be missed and is missed today in our pathetic music scene..
One of the best songs of the 60's. The beginning, "We met at a party" is one of the few very best vocals of all time!
Joseph F
always loved that line!!

Great song and a classy performance!

Ladd, thanks for posting this video. Your dad has to be the tallest man here!
Great song! Great group!

I loved that TV show, Shin Dig! So much to fun to watch! I got my white boots, and thought I was so cool! LOL! Loved being a teen then!
Circa 1969, Jimmy was the afternoon drive time Disc Jockey on KOB AM 770 (Albuquerque). Sadly, he passed in 2013.
Yep me too love jay and the americans was so in love
With them still love their music today.wish I could turn the clock back.❤

He had such a beautiful voice and funny to. Really going to miss you rip Jay black.
Eine tolle Truppe. So etwas gibt es heute leider nicht mehr.
Rock on, Jay! Thanks for everything. RIP.
Don't forget that the host, Paul Anka, was the best Password player in the 1960s. (Well maybe 2nd to Bette White)
Wow! Jay was very young looking here.
Great

This is their best song !!!
Rip brilliant voice
that is quite an entergetic performance...
I like it
Will love this song forever!
Along with Gary Puckett, had the very best male rock/pop voice. then, the rest!
ONE OF THE 1ST MEN TO WEAR AN EARING JAY BLACK .
The Best!
this is from HULLABALOO, not Shindig. You can tell by the set.
Without a Doubt!!!
I see Kenny Vance. He now sings with the Planotones.
Awesome!
Jay !!!!♥️⭐️⭐️⭐️♥️🎶🎶🎵🎶🎶
what ever happened to theses guys? OOPs; now I am looking in the mirror and the answer hit him!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG, are the fun days gone?
+Joe leblanc IMHO, the "fun days" are whenever people who grew up with this music play it again & remember the good times!
again and again
100+Times over
@@carlrennhack6573I'm tired of remembering. I want to go back and do it again
Hey Scott! this is Dave! I laughed when you asked about that Rick! How cool! Isnt Jay Black the best?
Regrettably Jay had a gambling problem, ripped the group apart.
This is Not Shindig, IT'S HULLABALOO on NBC-TV USA.
i think he is great he can sing
So what and perfect.
I think Kenny Vance is still performing
YES HE IS .. UNDER KENNY VANCE AND THE PLANOTONES
You gotta love that hip, choreographed exit Kenny and the guys do after their never-was hit.
This is definitely Hullabaloo. I have the DVD's. :o)
What on Earth happened to the audio's quality?
Surely it was recorded better than what we are hearing.

Agree!
Ahhhhhh NO!..oh yeahhhhhhh :D
my older sister used to date guys who had the exact same haircut w/lots of Brylcreem..
this aint Shindig, it's HULLABALOO although they did do Shindig
It's "Shindig." Click the link for a glimpse at Jimmy O'Neill's photo.

Yes! Can it get any better than this? (Rhetorical question and the answer is no, it can't)
No it cannot get any better there's only 1 jay black loved hin .❤

yvonne vieyra cheesecake.
They did this a lot in the Sixties. Times have changed!
I can't tell if that Ricky is a 6 string or 12 string.
I'm 3 years late, Scott, but if you freeze the video at 2:16 , you can see the back of the headstock. My screen is a bit fuzzy but I'm sure I can see the extra tuners indicating a 12 string.
Jay black
ok which one is really from SHINDIG?
It almost sounds like a Phil Spector production!
To me it sounded more like Bob Crewe. This band sound rather like the early Four Seasons.
that's how many bands sounded..both were two of the very best..
i use to like this but it's sounds lyp sync compared to the other clip where someone cracks. live is the best. live live, not live sync. but jay and the americans are still the best when it comes to vocal power next to the frankie valli and the four seasons
It's very strange seeing Shindig spelled as "Shin Dig".
Wrong on two counts: it's not live and the show is Hullabaloo, not Shindig.
Dan Sm This was a live performance. Maybe not in this occasion. Must've "filled in" the song with the video if you will.
What was the point of that woman there?
good question.....ergo evidently no reason...
Heterosexual men. A novelty today.
Jesus, if you don't know there's no point in tellling you.
@@tokenjoy Tell me then. I didn't get it either
GREAT GREAT GROUP DJ JOHNNY LEE IRELAND
Why is that guy playing a guitar on a song that is clearly being lipsynched?
@JAVMAN83 hahahahah
Yet the garbage of today…
does the girl ever do anything but hold up the post?
She's eye candy to help sell the performance.
Let's lock the door & throw away the key.....What does that mean......
Then don't listen to him anymore.Nobody made you listen.
Jay Black...not the original.. Must have Mafia connections because he acted like he kissed the floor that "the Teflon Don" walked. Liked the original guy better.
