I water my succulents every two weeks. But two succulents in particular drop a leaf after watering. The mix is Miracle Grow catcus with perlite and granite. Don't know what I'm doing wrong.
It could be that they are being overwatered and the soil is also not draining enough so they are sitting in water. Usually when leaves are plump and full and start falling off this is from getting too much water. These posts can hopefully help: www.succulentsandsunshine.com/yt-dying www.succulentsandsunshine.com/yt-watering www.succulentsandsunshine.com/yt-mainsoil

I have repotted a few really healthy succulents that I ordered online into the bonsai Jack soil as you have recommended. One of them is not thriving. It’s a losing more than one or two leaves at the bottom. The upper leaves appear healthy and the bottom leaves sort of curled up, and then shriveled to death. I watered it but not too much. If anything maybe a little less. But then I tried to water it to save it and there is no change. The leaves are not mushy. Does it not like the soil? Is it common after transplanting? I really feel like I’m losing what was a beautiful healthy succulent. It is a ghost plant if that helps. I appreciate any input!!
Without seeing a picture, it's difficult to say for sure. There could be a few reasons why your Graptopetalum paraguayense "Ghost Plant" is not thriving. When you transplanted into the gritty mix, did you wait a day or two after planting to water? Sometimes with the gritty mix, your succulents will need more water, depending on where they are planted. Is it planted indoors or outside? "Ghost Plant" doesn't thrive indoors, but it also isn't cold hardy. Water using the "soak and dry" method (you can see that in this video: ua-cam.com/video/9-yp-JPXENM/v-deo.html), and see how it does. You can also read more about "Ghost Plant" here: succulentsandsunshine.com/yt-ghost
Succulents and Sunshine Appreciate your thoughtful reply. I waited a day or two after transplanting just in case any roots were damaged. I used the soak and dry method. Maybe not initially, what I thought might of been soaking it was not soaking it. The the water runs right through this gritty mix so easily I figured it might’ve been fine. The last couple times I definitely soaked the entire pot regardless of the water running through. It is in fact indoors but I have it under a grow light right now. Because I live in the Northeast and it’s cold and dark and gloomy for the most part. After transplanting, is it not common to experience this ever? I haven’t experienced that with any of my others so far. Maybe lost one bottom leaf but nothing like this. I feel like this is working upwards. And it’s weird how the bottom leaves curled up, like mid leaf curled up and wrinkled. I’ll check out your post on the go as planned but I don’t think I’ll read anymore that I’ve already read! I pretty much know your blog inside and out and have looked up the plant else where. ☹️
Succulents and Sunshine I do find the gritty mix really hard to tell when it needs watering. I live in the north so it’s not hot and humid anymore. I would figure it needs watering less as most of my other plants. But I transplanted many of them to the gritty mix. Would you recommend twice per week watering? Even in the winter? Or is that overkill. I’ve lost so many due to overwatering in the past I err on the side of caution these days. But this gritty Max is so new to me.
@@cmstrauss514Hi there. I live in zone 9b and my ghosties luckily grow really well indoors or out. So does my powderpuff, California sunsets jades, echeverias etc.. but the sun here is pretty excessive so full sun is 7-8hrs max without stressing them. Mine did the same thing with the mid plant leaf curl and die symptom..lol. It was from not adequately watering due to the gritty mix soil I use. I started letting my succulent pots & propagation trays sit with a dish/bowl under them for about 5 minutes after watering and they do great! Good luck and happy Planting! Would love to know what you use! Thanks again!
I am new to succulents I got the Miracle-Gro Cactus potting soil at Home Depot my leaves have been turning yellow and falling off I'm thinking it was due to overwatering so then I got nervous and I thought maybe I was under water in them I let the soil completely dry out for a few weeks and now I have three watered them so now I'm freaking out thinking maybe I should have just changed the soil which I bought the Bonsai Jack mix and it's coming on Friday when my soil mix comes in should I take my plants out of the Miracle Grow soil and mediately shake them of all soil replant them and don't water them for up to three to four days and then water them I'm just not sure how long I should wait until I change the soil
I would wait for the soil to dry before you replant. And then after replanting wait a full day or two before watering again. The Bonsai Jack soil will require you to water a little more frequently initially but then you'll be able to gradually cut back.
Can I just replant it in the same soil? My succulent doesn't need a lot of water at all! I actually thought it was dead and quit watering it, and then all the sudden a new sprout came out of the bottom dead one....I want to replant the new one...but is it okay to just pull out the bottom chunk that's dead, and cut the sprouted part and then plant in the same soil?
I just bought a blue chalk stick succulent about a month ago and the leafs keep turning yellow then brown and dying, but not the whole leaf. The tip will die then the middle or the base will die then the tip, it’s not really consistent so I’m not sure what to do

If you're concerned about the soil, change that first. Be sure it's a gritty, well-draining soil. Then replant your succulents, let them rest for a day or two, and then water them :)

These posts can hopefully help:

@@Succulentsandsunshine Thank you. I will check out the link and make some changes.
Helpful but how do you decide which problem you have?
Can you please tell me why my succulent's (jelly bean) lower leaves are squishy in comparison to the new leaves ... I'm a beginner 😭
Squishy leaves are usually a sign that you are over watering. I would just let the soil dry out completely before you water again, and if you can use a well draining soil.

Hello! I love your videos!! Can you please tell me what the succulent in 0:59 is called?
That one is Mesembryanthemum lehmanni :)
@@Succulentsandsunshine omg thank you so much!!!
My echeverria starlite loses leaves
Yeah sometimes it gets all dried up underneath my succulent.
You can also read more about "Ghost Plant" here:

My collection grew to about 50 big and small plus I grow about 50 other varieties around the house with my vegetable garden outside. I love gardening and plants in general. Her succulents are so beautiful to watch aren't they?! Lol
@@StaceyHerewegrowagain THANK YOU for the reply!! Can I ask what gritty mix you use? I will try watering them more. I may have to switch this ghost out though to regular cactus mix. I def have to replant it already b/c it has lost so many of the lower leaves now it looks too tall. I replanted most of my sucs in the Bonsai Jack, so I hope the rest do OK. Would love to know what you use! Thanks again!
This too 😩😩
Can u explain the suck and dry method in more depth?
Absolutely! You can learn about it in this video:

Yes, as long as you haven't had any pest problems, using the same soil should be fine.
I just bought a blue chalk stick succulent about a month ago and the leafs keep turning yellow then brown and dying, but not the whole leaf. The tip will die then the middle or the base will die then the tip, it’s not really consistent so I’m not sure what to do
Cassidy could you please help? I'm new to growing succulents are months now but all of a sudden my echeverias started losing bottom leaves 😞😱 the leaves are turning mushy and yellow plus very thinned and wrinkled,I live in northern Ireland so we don't get sun at all most times.please help
great video!
