    1:01 "intending..." Please Mato, more of this! I've been looking everwhere online (without luck, suggestions anyone?) for simple summaries of the intentions behind openings, exactly as you describe here. I may recognise a dozen different openings, but I just don't understand the different 'intentions' or gameplans behind the openings. I found your simple summary very helpful and would love to hear something similar for each opening as they come along.

    I had another look at the crucial position at 6:31 and I still think that Bxf7+ is also a killer move. It can't be refuted, since whether Black takes the Bishop with Rook or with the King he still loses. Which all goes to show that if you are a brilliant positional player like Fischer then you are going to have more than one option to win.

  • @yggdrasil9039
    @yggdrasil9039 8 років тому +1

    Instead of BxB at the critical position (I thought about it but I couldn't see Fischer's mate combination), instead I saw Bxf7+ sacrificing the Bishop that was being threatened by Black's Knight on b3 to break open the pawn position on Black's kingside. If KxB then Qd5+ and K is in trouble because the Q can do a series of checks and take out the pawns and then bring the Rook into play with the Q, and if RxB then Qd5 and Black rook is pinned, followed by BxB which Black must recapture with the K, then Qd4+ and Black must play Kg8 or Kf8, which can be followed by Rh8+ winning the Queen.

    I think Kingscrusher might have done this video very recently as well.(Typed before commentary) Indeed he did.
    [subscribed to both I watch a lot of chess, his channel is also really good, and recommended]
    On that note actually; MatoJelic you should have a "UA-cam Person" match against Kingscrusher, if possible that I am sure would be quite popular. [And you might even win, as far as I know Kingscrusher has never drawn against Boris Spassky; and yes I have seen and remember you showing that game of yours against Spassky.]

    • @mizofan
      @mizofan 9 років тому

      +Peter Smythe And talking of Spassky, yesterday I was watching Kingcrusher video of his win v Bronstein that was featured in the Bond film From Russia with Love. Good enough as example of brilliance in Bond but not good enough to beat Mato. I think Kingcrusher beat Jerry of Chess Network channel here. Like Mato they are calm, cheerful and friendly guides for us. We are lucky to have all three.

    I reckon Bobby Fischer could spot a queen against anybody and still win

    • @pizzashark7067
      @pizzashark7067 9 років тому

      +Anthony Kernich Most people can beat Houdini with an extra queen...
      EDIT: People meaning chess players, not the set of the entire human population, most of which don't know the rules of the game

    • @mizofan
      @mizofan 9 років тому

      +Pizza Shark I'm no good at chess but Houdini couldn't beat me even if I was going to play without a queen. And furthermore I could play the top 4 players or computers in the universe simultaneously and they wouldn't beat me overall.

    • @pizzashark7067
      @pizzashark7067 9 років тому +5

      What this man says is true, everyone. I've played him myself, and he spotted me his entire back rank (including his king) and still won a 20-match simultaneous exhibition while blindfolded and hanging upside down from the Eiffel tower by a shoelace while drunk under blitz time controls.
      Correct me if I'm wrong, mizofan , but I believe your rating is Graham's number.

    Engine says that Black's 17..e5 to attack White's N was reasonable...if only Black had done it at move 16 (skipping the time-wasting 16..e6). What a difference a single wasted move can make! 18.Nf5 works, only because White was given time to play 17.f4 first.
