Sims in SL, especially RP sims, seem to be a revolving door. Some of them start out with HUGE traffic numbers, which is great because there are always people around to interact with.
I don't know if maybe some sim owners get in over their heads financially, or they overestimate how much visitors will contribute/donate to keep the place running. I remember one from a few years back, a beautifully designed medieval/fantasy sim, where the owner "gave up" because one or two players were criticizing things and the owner didn't want to deal with it so they shut it all down.
Having been in SL for almost 18 years things come and go, some come to an end naturally, and some because of drama may it be right away or it has a ripple effect that eventually kills it. In the past, about 8 years ago Cumberland/Clearwater was the biggest family rolelay community which was I think about equal in size if I remember correctly it ended with a lot of drama between the owners. It is the way of Second Life, things tend to implode and something else will come in its place to replace it. Not many places have been able to withstand the test of time in Second Life and I commend those are running places that have. New Haven will eventually be just a footnote, largely forgotten much like not many will remember Cumberland/Clearwater, only few still remember. It was fun while it lasted but people will move to newer and hopefully better things.
New Haven was a gem certainly with a lot of future potential. The issues with decorator (who should have been recognized as co-owner) and I suppose the on paper owner baffle me to this day. Having lived through something similar in my own SL world its rather sad to see it happen. I witnessed it from a unique angle being a part of New Haven management and all I have to say is its simply sad that people cannot come to a table anymore and sort out differences. It was most certainly preventable if calmer heads prevailed and could not be so polarized focusing on who was what and on what side... Truth be told that metric was blurred by many circumstances and the net result ended sadly with fractured relationships. New Havens legacy instead of being the great community it was and I can speak to this expertly it was in the top tier of community role play sims ever made in SL history was injured by unnecessary, senseless and preventable drama. So whatever your opinion always remember New Haven as the wonderful community it was.
It was up for less than a year and created all this stir? There are so many empty places in SL. Many sims are experiencing low visits. Places come and go. It appears largely due to lack of consistency, communication, and long-term commitment to a place. The more people involved or the bigger the team the more it is likely to fall apart.
It was up for more than a year.
It is a real shame it has come to this as alot of people love role-playing regions and with 27 regions...that was some feat! Always something we would have loved to venture into but haven't done so. I would near be willing to offer the owner for me to purchase the remaining regions of New Haven and save what is left of the community and build up upon it to the standard and expectations of the residents with my backing and funding behind it, though with you saying about the owner ignoring people etc, I kinda feel that if I did, it would fall on deaf ears... :/
Thanks I had had no idea what was going on when stuff started getting disappeared. Ive been in sl for over a decade and have seen all the community rp sims fall sadly, always some drama that the owners can't handle, or cause. It's really unfortunate this, cara made a beautiful place and it had a great big bunch of open sea sims too. So much potential. A problem with community rp though is not many come out of their houses to rp. Gotta drag em out maybe with events but many there to just live quiet lives alone or with their own friends. It's a hard thing for people who do want to rp, a whole city but no one wants to play.
I just found your channel a few nights back, and I'd be interested if you have any suggestions on RP sims. I've been in SL for about 8 years now and RP isn't something I've done. Would you have any suggestions on current sims that are active? It could be a fun way to put some excitement back into my SL.
NGL, i saw "New Haven" and my first thought was that someone made New Haven Connecticut in SL 😂
It is nobody's fault. All things in SL are doomed to die eventually.
I can see a bunch of things that would be off putting... Firstly the sim surround you need an immersive realistic aesthetic so build up your ports and beaches and carefully plan your sim boarders without roads that lead to the void and install parking lots or cul-de-sacs. Secondly, contemporary life is nothing without community events and ways for the large crowds to gather so you need social centers where people can gather and do activities even if they do not rent a space to live. In real life people will hole up inside their homes in contemporary neighborhoods and even though they enjoy the private space this can be really boxing for a community themed simulator. Lastly, the overall morale of the sim morale is SOOoo important people need to feel included and be welcomed in on the daily. You need staff to greet and give tours and educate new comers about the dynamics of the community. If someone rezzes in and it is empty and confusing they might wonder around a bit and find no intrigue and never return. For some reason I have learned that the infamous wide open space on the sim is the hub for people to gather no matter what it could be a large parking lot or beach and idk why but residents are always drawn to these areas more. You need activities in those areas that folks can do together as a group and voice and relaxed rules and constant management because fights break out when residents gather in large groups no matter what.
Honestly not shocked. This sim had it's own issues IMO when it came to RPing in it. Big issue was the cliques but that is in any sort of online community sadly.. I didn't stay long at all to enjoy the RP sim to it's fullest, but to me just didn't vibe with it.
It was the women's fault. Period.
New Haven is gone.
