im on an optiplex refurb, my pow supply wont support the newer cards bc it needs an extra few 4 pin connectors.. so id have to upgrade my whole computer.. MB, Pow Supply, and Graphics card. Im currently using a Nvidia GTX 1050

thanks for all the detailed information. I just upgraded to a 4070 Ti Super to 'future proof' for a while - the one thing I noticed is SL can use ALOT of VRAM of crowded places 11-13 gig is what I often see now

Thank you ! I was wondering why my textures weren't loading properly, I changed my graphics settings to your recommendations and now they load right away. Essential for a clothing creator for their textures to load. Thank you so much !

One thing to note is now mirrors are disable by default since even with the coming improvements to them, they are still rerendering the entire scene twice so it will always be a heavy performance tax and probably best to be reserved for photos and the like.
Also for reflection coverage its recommended to atleast have that set to Manual Only. This will allow manually placed reflection probes to be used since without them alot of content can look broken with out (similar to how some items that relied on a normal map for find detail would look different with ALM switch off back in the day). If you are just zooming around outside in say like plane or something it would be less of an issue, but for day to day use most people will have a better experience with have it set to atleast manual

Thanks so much for this video Vic. A friend has been having frequent viewer crashes and getting crash notices indicating memory issues ever since the introduction of PBR, and that with a PC with a RTX 4070 and 32GB RAM. I'll try and see if I can help her using your instructions. Very appreciated.

@@DarrahValentine Hi Darrah, I wanted her to try the new settings before reporting back. Turning off the mirror and the shadows really helped her frame rate and general viewer performance, but as far as the memory related crashes, the overriding of the VRAM seems to be the key. In my friend’s case, her card has 12GB of VRAM. We set it to 10GB manually in Firestorm, leaving 2GB for background processes (she tends to have lots of tabs on her browser). We did this yesterday and I’ll be chatting with her later today to see if she’s had any crashes. Good luck.

@@devriv8983 Hi that's a very good point as I have a lot of tabs open as well, I did try closing my browser but still had some skipping and which interferes with my creating, it's annoying, now in a chat group in SL, some were saying wait till the next update for FS comes out I do not want to go to an older version, I just want to create

@@DarrahValentine Personally I think it’s better to stay with the latest viewer, and change the VRAM setting manually, and wait for the next release, rather than reverting back to an older viewer. Regarding browsers, there are some settings you can try to make them use less resources. I don’t use Chrome, but if you do, you can turn on the memory saver under settings, this way tabs not being used wont take up resources. You have such settings I think in all browsers.
