The competing crossovers may be more fuel efficient, but this isn't bad at all. And it's the only crossover that legitimately looks handsome and not like some obscure jellybean

We bought a High Altitiude 2017 with low mileage for my wife this past January for a steal & we both love it!

No offense to Steve, but I'm not totally sure he knows quite what he's talking about concerning the "trail rated" version. He says he would "definitely go with" it, and I personally would not. The trail rated version is the only one that still has the CVT transmission which is widely regarded as garbage... The "trail rated" stamp basically just looks nice on the patriot and is simply a bragging point, in my opinion. The 6-speed automatic transmission in 4x4 performs wonderfully in snow and mud for normal drivers that aren't slowly crawling over boulders and logs in everyday life. I have a 2014 patriot latitude 4x4 without the trail rated CVT, and I love it. It's a great vehicle. If you're thinking about it, do it!

Report on my '14 Patriot Trail Rated CVT 4x4: I have 198K on it, 20-23 mpg. Does great off pavement (not off road), handling gravel, sand, mud roads with surefooted traction. Enough speed on road to safely merge into urban traffic. Tire mileage decent. Very good on wet pavement. Good relationship with dealer. Using synthetic oil, no oil burning issues. Have rented a couple of Patriots with either FWD or the 6 speed auto 4x4 and found each more than adequate. Just like the trail rated version with crawl mode for those rare really tough spots! Purchased this vehicle new and maintained according to the book.

I bought this Patriot 2 mos ago, and I love it. I don't mind the plastic stuff in the interior because I can keep it clean with a little Simple Green and a soft cloth.

The sweet spot for Patriot is really the lower trim levels. It is one of the only C/SUVs you can actually drive off the lot for less than $20,000. The base model starts at $15,999 and almost always has discounts. The only thing in its price range that really delivers anything close as far as driving postion and utility is the Kia Soul. At about $17,500 for a reasonably equipped FWD or $20,000 for a 4WD the Patriot makes sense. At $28,000 you can have any number of better vehicles including lower trim versions of the new Cherokee.

To Hell with the awful CVT!!! Instead, make the Freedom II available with the manual trans. and the 6-sp. auto. transmissions Jeep. The damned CVT is THE reason to go with the Freedom I system at the moment. DITCH THE CVT! Also, save a lot of bucks and get the Sport or Latitude.

Is the trail rated model even worth getting over freedom drive one. It has a cvt

  • @FIVEOFEVER

I don't get these so call test drivers...LOL! Save $5000 buy going to the Latitude instead of the Limited. You don't get leather power seat, auto climate control and a few other of the luxury items. Stay away from the freedom drive II option because it only comes with the CVT (crappy) transmission. You still get the same 4-wheel drive system all for about $23K. Jeep is offering a lot of discounts on this vehicle which brings the price down more. Also the Patriot's reliability record is outstanding. Try getting these same options in The Escape or Honda and you'll be paying thousands $$ more than the Patriot.

this guy clearly doesn't realize the advantage of the patriot, the PRICE. at the latitude model, you get 4x4 and some useful functional features like heated seats, fold flat front seat, 115V outlet and fog lights all for a price that is about 2k lower than it's nearest competitors in Mazda and the Hyundai Tucson. Great value for the price. basic models focus on function features like those mentioned above rather than superficial features like auto-dimming rearview mirror, sunroof, sat radio (a common option included on jeep patriots) If you're spending 30k on an SUV you should be looking at the Cherokee. If you are looking to spend 22k or less with 4x4, the patriot is about your only option without going to a subcomact SUV like the Nissan Juke, but that has the CVT

Heck, we just bought a leftover 2014 model for $16,500 out the door -- 4x4, Sport trim, 6 speed AT, AC. Sure it has manual windows, manual locks and no alloy wheels or navigation, but saving $12,000 or so makes it worth it. The dealership actually had a leftover one for $12,500 but it had the 5 speed manual and was FWD and not 4x4. Can't even get a Chevy Spark for that much.

I like it and like any good looking lady, you can add lots of jewelry to her exterior and make her that much better. I personally like the rugged look and you can fix this up like all jeep and have one bad ass ride. She's winking at me so It is love at first sight... Thanks for that review ❤️❤️🌹🌹😜😂

Who cares about the cvt and luxury in a jeep. This is a workhose and you are concerned that the tail is not wagging? Now what about that lock in manual trans?

Patriot / Compass is the worst piece of crap Chrysler has ever built, with perhaps the K Car from the 80s a close second. just had a city driven 2009 with 94,000km steering arms, and ball joints go. Total junk, with no resale value, be warned if you plan on getting one of these little death machines.
