The DJI footage during the comparison looks like the low res cache footage.... I know DJI footage is sharper than that.
Yes, I wrote this in the description, and I know most people don't read it but just in case they do - The first scene my Mavic 2 Pro was fine, the second and third scene the focus crapped out on me! As this is about the GoPro Hero 9 in the air, I thought I'd let it slide. The DJI footage is a ton sharper, it's just out of focus for some reason on the last two scenes 🙈
GoPro's footage has always been way ahead of DJI, and probably always will be

The issue with the tilt of the drone forward & backwards can be a problem. But I thought that maybe useful for different video modes such as timelapse, slow-mo, ...? Also, what about to get the turning view when flying right/left with the horizon tilt? Think that may add a fresh perspective...
Nice test. I have a mini 2 pro and own a Hero 7, 10, and 11. I was a little nervous about using 10,11, but I think the Hero 7 would work. I think having it mounted looking backward and sync' with the forward built-in drone camera showing both views together might be interesting. Or having the drone camera looking down with GoPro forwared. In fact, FutureVideo makes a software product called Multi-View HD Pro 2, which allows syncing multiple GoPro and DJI videos to playback without rendering. I was thinking of using multiple drones and with a GoPro on each, if it provides "cinematic" quality.

Thank You! I've found that the quicker I get to the point the better, especially with the size of my channel. The big boys out there with their 1mil subs can afford to talk about their morning coffee etc, I need to get to the point so people stick to my film. I'm sure in the future I'll incorporate a little more of me, but right now I do what I can to keep it clean.

You can take a mount to have the camera down and to the other direction , with this way you don’t see the propellers at your video and you have double caption . In front you and back

I loved the video, why doesn't the gopro vibrate? Does the gopro come with a stabilizer? Or in post-production do you add stabilizer?

What an awesome video... I'm watching this as I wait for the adhesive on my GoPro mount to dry onto the Mavic 1 Pro, and I'm wondering from your experience does the drone take better footage than the best settings of the GoPro Hero 9 ....? Or can I get a sharper nicer video with the Go Pro Hero 9?
Thank You! It was a fun one! With my experience the drone takes much better footage, above all it's controllable. The Insta360 could be a fun one on this, so I still need to test that out, but generally using the Mavics look great, on an fpv of course the Hero 9 wins.
@@PhillipSkraba Wow, thanks for the reply! I thought the Hero9 would out do the Mavic Pro camera, 12mp vs 20mp, and so on, but I realize there are tons of other things that factor in. It's funny you mention the 360, I have the same mounts on the Hero 9 and the 360 ready to try out once the mount adhesive dries (silicone adhesive) but just hearing the video comparison from someone who knows is priceless. @@BasicFolders It's quite a hard view for the GoPro, you constantly have something in the way. It looks good when you're blasting away forward, then you have a clear view, you have to aim it up slightly like I did in this video. I'm interested in trying the 360 out in various ways and mounts to see how I can change the view and move it around as I fly. Have fun with that Chris, let me know how it turns out. Hmm, action camera DJI Mavic 2 attachment? I guess that's a good guess, I think mine was from pgytech.
Really interesting test I must admit. Are both those side by sides flat profile and straight out of the card? The Mavic seems really blurry for some reason and the colors seem a bit off. A very good scenario for using this btw, would be shooting one with ND filter and one without, so if the conditions change dramatically during the shoot, you have a good chance of really nice footage
Thank You! This was a lot of fun! Both are flat from the card. I wrote in the description, I guess most people won't bother looking in there, the last two scenes, the Mavic 2 Pro focus crapped out on me and went all blurry, no idea what happened there, it's always razor sharp like in the first scene I shot. Like I wrote though, this is all about how the GoPro Hero 9 looks up there. The Mavic had an ND filter here, the GoPro didn't. Yes, that's a good idea too!
would be actually nice to see stuff that common people can buy these days - Dji Phantom 3 and GoPros 7 or 8, not necessarily the top and the latest out there.
I'm afraid I never had a Phantom, I did fly one though. I have the Hero 7, great camera, but I prefer to use the Hero 9. I also can't wait for the Hero 10, it's just how I roll. I do still use my Sony a73 though, love that thing!

I'm sorry Kevin, I have no idea. I use only DJI drones currently, I'm not sure what the Hubsan drones are capable of. I have a deep trust in DJI, so I'm comfortable doing silly things and attaching other cameras to it, from what I've seen other manufacturers just aren't so trustworthy when it comes to safety.

Gopro on drone might be fun by capturing a different angle.
It was fun! Yes, it would be good to have a second angle, for example facing backwards in case you need both sides, you'd have to test out what kind of angle would be needed for looking backwards though as the tail is a little further away.
Phillip, Did you just use the standard GoPro 9 mount with the sticky tape? That would make me a bit nervous. Overall I have been super unhappy with the GoPro 9s... I should have kept my 7s. They all overheat badly.
I have a PGYTech adapter for the Mavic 2 series, it works really well. I've had no problems with my Hero 9, it's always been good to me, no overheating, nothing, bought it with my own money, so being honest here. I use my Hero 7 still, it's a good backup.
@@PhillipSkraba I do fishing videos with an external battery. Where I go it's always windy so I added the windsock and I think that is making things even worse. I took the windsocks off and turned off all screens. I also got a portable Tascam DR-10L for audio, because the GoPros in the wind is unusable. Hopefully, next time out the don't overheat or I'm going back to the GoPro 7s. I bought the 9s for 4K Linear at 24FPS. 60fps is not doable for me the overheat 100%. I'm sure me filming on an external battery for 8 hours doesn't help, but bottom line they should not overheat under any circumstances as we paid good money for these. Hopefully, the next outing is good. Which ND Filters are you using?
That is true! 8 hours though, whoa! I turn off the wind in sound options and it sounds better. I use the Freewell ND/PL filters on mine, love them!

Hi, awesome video the attachment of Go pro gives it more options to play with. I was planning to buy the DJI mavic pro but i got to know that in Canada you need a drone pilot licence, is it true for this drone?
Thank You! Yes, in Canada I believe you need a drone license. Wait for the DJI Mini 2, it should be available in a few days, no license needed and it'll be quite the little monster.

Actually none, it was just the clear filter. I do however use the Freewell ND filters.

Is that the Pgytech mount? I ordered one on eBay but it got cancelled. How far did the WiFi work with the Hero 9? Did the drone cope ok with the extra weight? I’ve got a Mavic 2 Zoom.
Yes, that's correct, the Pgytech mount, I'd recommend it, flimsy but pretty solid when you clip it on. The WiFi isn't that great, about 20-30m and that's it in most places. The Mavic 2 series can handle it and not even feel it, the Mini, you can feel the struggle.
@@PhillipSkraba Cool, thanks. I did get a cheaper sunnylife mount, but it’s too far back, and you can see the props and the front of the drone. You don’t happen to know what the Hero 9 weighs? I did see a post on MavicPilots that reckoned the MTOM of the 2 Zoom and 2 Pro was 1100g, I was just wondering if it would be under that. It did look as though t coped fine with it though👍
@@msag76 It's well under that! It comes in at 158g, so the drone won't even know it's there.

It's great, but impossible to control.
Its not a good idea to put your drone on top of the car. The metal on the car might interfere with the GPS. I personally dont own a drone but a few friends do and they told me that, cause I might buy one, and they had issues by doing that once before.
I'd been flying them for years Glenn, and yep, they're right! Don't put it on top of your car, I do, but I'm pretty confident with it. If you're just getting started, keep it quite a distance away from your car or anything metal or it could go crazy and probably not calibrate the compass. Don't do what I do in my videos, it's rather silly sometimes.

You should redo the test but soften your settings in the dji app so the drone flys flatter. Or atleast put it in position and and turn the attitude down.
This was kind of for fun. I'm such an aggressive drone pilot, I put it in S and fly manual all the time. It's like I'm trigger happy with zero patience when I fly. I always get my shot, but flying with this was like flying blind, drove me loopy. I get what you're saying though, if it was smoother and even in Tripod mode it would work much better.

Some feedback. You need to work in your basic photography skills. Never shot yourself, or your camera against the sun, or the sun reflection because you will have that massive flare you have around you. Filming against the sun reflection will make your video to lose contrast and definition as the shot of your GoPro drone. The wider the angle, the more you run from the sun.
