I dare you to listen to this three more times and see if it doesn't get under your skin for eternity. This song has that kind of power. And yeah it's humorous and really sad and lonely at the same time.
Harry Nilsson wrote "One" for his 1968 album Aerial Ballet (which featured his hit single "Everybody's Talkin'"). Three Dog Night took their cover to the tops of the charts in 1969. It was the first of their many big hits. I dig the arrangement and the driving intensity furnished by the guitar and the shuffle beat laid down by the drums. They make the song swing almost to the point of tipping over into triple meter but pull it back before it spirals out of control. Harry Nilsson is another artist from the sixties worth some exploration. The Beatles declared him their favorite American group when asked in 1968. "Without You" from 1971 is perhaps his biggest hit. "Coconut", "Everybody's Talkin'", "Me and My Arrow", and "Jump into the Fire" are a few others.
This is my Moms music. Loved it as a child. My family were a bunch of musicians and singers. In 2019 I managed to find a perfect vinyl of this album. Never saw my Mom smile like that
I like an awful lot of Three Dog Night, but this One is probably my favorite song by them. Listen to it again a time or two and I promise you, it will be stuck in your head for the rest of your life. I love everything about it. And yeah, we've all been through that kind of breakup, and it's just downright lonely and painful.
11 ,12 ,13 , 14 years old when they came out , the memories of riding in my brothers 1966 ford mustang fastback 4 speed . Going to a lake 20 miles away, just pure fun
For many years, Three Dog Night closed their live shows with a fun tune called "Celebrate." I'm looking forward very much to you're playing that one someday, Biz.
An old fashioned love song is my favorite song by Three Dog Night although I pretty much love most of their music. Also Joy to the World and It's easy to be hard are my favs also!
Song written by Harry Nilsson, who is a rabbit hole in his own right. You've probably heard "Coconut" at some point in your life, but basically anything off Nilsson Schmilsson or Son of Schmilsson is worth a listen. "Without You" is a cover but it shows off his vocal range in a truly phenomenal way. "Spaceman" is one of his best.
Should do live versions. They were 7 member band with 3 lead singers. COREY, CHUCK AND DANNY, each took lead depending on the song. This picture, Danny on left Chuck on the right (known for his mustache).
I've always thought this song has what I would call a haunting sound. That's the best way to describe how it makes my soul feel. Yes,I do believe in the soul because when you feel a certain way inside when you hear certain music or when you see certain things etc etc it seems like the feeling that you have inside is separate from the physical you. Sometimes it seems to be a burden having a soul, reason being it seems like there are a good number of people who don't seem to have a soul and they make things pretty miserable for the people who do have one. But that's just the way it is. That reminds me. You ever heard That's just the way it is by Bruce Hornsby and the range? Very nice song!! Peace ✌️
LOVE LOVE Three Dog Night. Saw them about a month ago in Baton Rouge, LA.. I am immediately back in grade school. I was 9 years old. They rock. Great breakdown/reaction..as usual! I Love "Eli's Coming" and also "Celebrate".
This song is from the play "Hair". This singer is Chuck Negron, the guy with the mustache. Beautiful voice. They did another song from "Hair", "Easy to be Hard". There wasn't much play to Hair, it was mostly a heartache story told through really good songs.
I think the name 3 dog night is Australian slang for it's so cold I'll need 3 dogs to keep warm. Enjoy your videos You should give a reaction to a live version of Natalie Merchant's Carnival
Three Dog Night - Liar - Eli's Coming -- Try A little Tenderness - The Show Must Go On -- Never Been To Spain -- Out In The Country Huge rabbit hole Biz.

My parents had this album; my favorites were this song and “Joy To The World”; my child brain loved the Jeremiah was a Bullfrog line ❤❤❤
Great band! Loved them since I was a little kid listening to them with my cousins on my aunt and uncle's porch in the 70's
❤️ Three Dog Night
"Brickyard Blues" is another fun Three Dog Night song...
“Out in the Country” is a vibe you will dig.

'Old Fashioned Love Song' is a great Three Dog Night song.
The live version
This is one of those songs that needed to be written.
The 60s and 70s had good music a lot better than today
This came out when I was in high school. They have a lot of great songs. 👍
Love it! Easy to Be Hard is another great one
An oldie but a goodie 😉🇦🇺
Written and originally sung by the great Harry Nilsson.

The only thing worse in life than never getting what you want...... is getting exactly what you want.
Not sure if you did it, but “One Man Band” is another good one.

Their best in my opinion. Vocal is fantastic. Guitar work is great too.

A favorite song of mine. Three Dog Night are a great band.

Oh yeah!!!
Harry Nilsson wrote the song while on a rotary phone due to hearing the busy signal and wrote lyrics to it
Hearing this makes me realise just how good the Johnny Farnham version (Australia 1969), really is.
Can't go wrong with TDN. Word.
Out In The Country.

Three dog night does an old Motown song called try a Little tenderness. You should listen to it it's like blue-eyed soul. Sounds incredible. Peace!
