Always listen to the bass. You never know when Phil will drop a bomb.
Greatest band of all time.
Thanks for all the great Dead stuff Biz 👍
Jerry and Bob had a unique balance. Jerry saw a special player in Weir....An uneven harmony...that worked!!!
Bob always rhythm. Best rhythm guitar ever.
GD & Allman Bros. played a concert at Watkins Glen NY in 1973....600,000 people in attendance
It was a fun weekend. 😁
I saw the Dead all over this country. My favorite state, however was NY, where I was born and where the Dead played amazing shows throughout the years.
Hey buddy, Jerry and the rest of the boys are truly an amazing fun gift from the God's! I appreciate your exploration of amazing music! Thank you so much!
Cheers!
You can tell Jerry is a true band leader, he completely directed this one
As I have mentioned before, I was at this show. This was their opening number.
Back on the Bus with BizMatik!!
Great job plugging in that awesome Duane interview!!!
Gotta do Loser from 7/7/89. Those final months of Brent’s run were all 🔥
I have watched this concert so many times
Every once in a while,Bob Weir played lead guitar but it was rather rare. There are some songs such as the song Friend of the Devil, where they all take turns at one point in the song. Sometimes Bob would play lead on the song Darkstar and another song that he plays lead on for part of is Casey Jones. If you want to see Brent playing a really fun one search out the Good Golly Miss Molly/Devil with the Blue Dress (always played those two songs connected). Such a rabbit hole to fall into. There are so many great songs out there.. Just scratching the surface, believe it or not. They played about 450 different songs over the 30 years. (Not including the Jerry Garcia Band or other side projects ) 151 original songs
Great Song. I can sing it. Long Liv the Grateful Dead 🍄🌹🍄🌁🌁🍄
We should blow his mind and recommend “Old And In The Way”
Midnight moonlight is in the pipeline
@@cevinwillson9113 good, but it’s hard to sell Bluegrass on people who never heard it
You should do a deep dive and listen to Workingman's Dead, it's possibly their best studio album and all us deadheads love it.
Oh man! This is the time when I was seeing a lot of Dead shows. I didn’t make it to this show, but I always loved hearing Bertha while dancing like a hippie freak! 💀 ⚡️ 🌹
89' he Dead were in the middle of rebuilding. Brent was finding his place in the band and would soon add impressive harmony vocals. My last time seeing Jerry was early 90's in Ventura. Every show was fun, this is what The Dead are about, pure fun.
Bob has solos on songs like Easy Wind and Hard to Handle, and sometimes he’d take a solo during a jam with Jerry on rhythm
Awww I love hearing Duane Allman's comments . Such a genuine cool guy You're right the Allman bros and the dead are very similar. Love em both!! My moms name was Bertha. This is a great song ! Thanks Biz for reacting to this.
They played together 🍄🌁🌁🌁🍄
@@pango-y8j Wow! I did not know that. Both legends. Would love to hear it.
Brent on the organ. Magical. They way he and Jerry lock in sometimes too.
Bob doesn't play lead. He does play certain lead-like licks on some songs, like the riff in China Cat Sunflower. He has a unique style of rhythm guitar too. He doesn't just play every chord. He'll do little strums at different places in the song, and Jerry bounces around in between
Jerry and the boys having some fun. Supposedly, the song was inspired by a large electrical fan that was in The Dead's office in San Rafael, Ca. and it would "wander" around the floor. Not sure about the truth of the matter, but that is what I've heard. That Bob Dylan quote you read was from Jerry Garcia's Memorial Service, after he passed August 8, 1995.
Good one Biz! If you look closely you will see that Phil is playing a 6 string bass at this point. Doing lead runs..
Yeah, people bitched and moaned about how lame/boring/slow the dead were. I don't know man, they consistently sold out basketball arenas for decades. Through folk, hard rock, disco, punk, synth pop, heavy metal, grunge, they weathered it all and played sold out shows eighty nights a year for decades with nary a hit single except for "Touch of Grey" which peaked at #9 on the Hot 100 on September 27th, 1987. That's it. One top 40 single. "Truckin' peaked at #64 back on Christmas of '71.
Glad this was unblocked, Biz!
Hey Now Lisa!
@@bobschenkel7921 Hey Now, Bob!
Grate to see you again! ✌🎶
Nice!
Let's feed the Dead ❤
Watkins Glen 73 Biz.....check it!
Hey now Nordy! The 73 Watkins Glen show was killer. And the beginning of the Wall Of Sound.
Jerry always lead guitar, Bob always rhythm.
not necessarily....Little Red Rooster as an example
7/7/79 Grateful Dead, BLOW AWAY, RFK, Brent just goes off, he's living his words, marriage on the rocks...you cannot fake that performance.
Electric
Phil was a trumpeter prior to playing the bass and he plays bass like a horn player
I would recommend watching that Dead documentary before committing time to one studio album. They are not a normal band, so the rules kind of go out the window.
Jerry was always lead except for the exception.
You need to listen to Jerry on “Old and in the way” Bluegrass album.
You are entering…..
