The subtitle stating this isn't an exact replica is a disclaimer the layout doesn't need. All it's missing is a stray hereford chewing his cud. The realism is incredible and this Texas boy felt right at home. What a wonderful escape. Thanks.
Wow! We used to come through La Grange traveling from Corpus when I was a kid. Your modeling of the DQ area is so real I did a double take just now, thought I was looking at a photo of the city. I love the Hwy 77 descent to the river. It was like a foreign country to a coastal kid. We stopped on the square one Christmas and a fireman let me turn on the city Christmas lights. Fun memories there.
This is a really awesome video explaining the history/base for the design of this area on the layout! Now if there were only ones for the other areas....
impeccable - even preternaturally realistic - scenery and detailing. real artistry on display here. looks like photographs of an "idealized" real world - where everything was kept immaculately clean. damn. this beats even the world-famous Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg Germany. as awesomely detailed as that showcase is - its scenes would never be mistaken for photos of reality.
Well, there are a lot of railway crossings, in Europe we try to build viaducts, either for train or for cars. I'm not sure if my patience would be enough waiting for a hundred car oil tank train at a railway crossing..
wow, nicely done! thats pretty darn close to our small town of La Grange, TX!! empty coal must be taking a scenic route haha. usually they run the opposite direction unless something else is going on that direction....haha. no dis intended just making a comment. we see about 4 loads and empties per week. can only hold 2 at a time in the plant... 124 cars takes about 10-12 hours to dump.... so if i see a load go through say at midnight ill probably see it about 1 or 2 in the afternoon....
I know the coal trains run in the opposite direction - it is the artistic fredom you have when modeling. It was not possible to run in the correct direction and still fit with the rest of the layout plan.
I see someone commented about your McDonalds. I'd like to have one also. Secondly, I really like your deciduous trees. Their trunks are a great diameter. If you make your own, what do you use for armatures?
Realistic town and a very nicely done clip. Thank you for the post. You think you can do another cabride clip of the whole layout including the new sections soon? Also, besides the Texas Eagle, what other passenger trains do you run? Do you run detour passenger trains like the Sunset Limited and Southwest Chief? Thumbs up!
Thank you for your kind comments. The layout is in a 1200 sq.ft. room, 45' long and between 22 and 30' wide. You can see the trackplan in 2015 Layout presentation video.
The Dairy Queen sign is so accurate. I saw most of the layout on Google maps. That’s a scratch built sign isn’t it. You can put out a Dairy Queen kit there! I like Walthers but, when it comes to real life brands and modern restaurants, you’re the guy to come to. I plan to purchase some things from your site as well. Waffle House, KFC, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut (maybe), Dominos Pizza (maybe).

Thank you, I take that as a Texas-sized compliment :-)
i am ay beyond jealous of this layout it is just the most authentic model ive ever seen
This is one of the most realistic-looking layouts I have ever seen. ...Roy
Could not agree more. Stunning. I found my target - anywhere close and I will have far exceeded my wildest hopes for any layout I could build.
The sign for banana spit sounded great and you have the best realistic layouts ever
Good job summit model train video you do the best ho scale train videos

These are fantastic. I really enjoy the level of detail!!!!
Very impressive job on the transition from actual buildings and the backdrop.
That's one hell of a layout! Awesome detailing and stuff. Great job, man!!
Incredible as always!!! I can't wait for the cab-ride video through LaGrange!
I'm a conductor at Union Pacific out of Smithville and a travel through La Grange almost every day! looks just like it!
Thanks, I'm glad you recognize it.
The banana split sounded great and your model layouts look so realistic love your videos
Per Laursen, you are a model railroading virtuoso!
looks great love the color of the ballast
I LOVE your buildings. I just wish you made the signs like the Mc Donalds sign that would light up and able to add lights for night time running
Great looking layout and nice job on your video
I enjoyed watching Thanks for posting
Cheers Ron
This is a really awesome video explaining the history/base for the design of this area on the layout! Now if there were only ones for the other areas....
In my future layout, I will be using an actual electronic bell module for my crossing signals.
nice to see that section finally done
I can almost hear ZZ Top in the background.
Wow excellent representation of the real site 2 thumbs up!
Just one beautiful railroad. Just awesome

That's truly amazing work. Keep it up!
Bnsfs are my favorite and so I like the csx and the ns good vid
Simply perfect!!! What manufacturer and color are you using for ballast looks great!!!
I grade this A+, Hollywood level work. Great job!!!
Very nice! What is the kit (?) of the fire station at 1.30? I like that curved wall with the glass.
It is a Walthers kit. It came out a year or two ago.
Could you do a full train diorama tour
You can start with this one: ua-cam.com/video/j4i3Z622MeQI/v-deo.html will update it with the new sections in a month or so.
Can't wait til your next video.

How do you do your pavement and grass so nicely?
Very nice!
That's kind of really amazing
I see someone commented about your McDonalds. I'd like to have one also. Secondly, I really like your deciduous trees. Their trunks are a great diameter. If you make your own, what do you use for armatures?
The trees are Woodland Scenics Premium and JTT.Unfortunately no McDonals on the Horizon.

Fantastic layout. The detailing and just the 'atmosphere' convey so much. Well done to the builder. How big is the layout? It looks huge!
Thank you for your kind comments. The layout is in a 1200 sq.ft. room, 45' long and between 22 and 30' wide. You can see the trackplan in 2015 Layout presentation video.
That's awesome!
Very nice.
Very Well Done!!!
Nice, but the train sounds and crossing signals are a bit too loud.
Where is the Chicken Ranch?
What os the car count

Make a 2017 layout presentation
That's a pretty good deal for a banana split!
Snazzy. Natty. All jazzrd up. Cool. Groooovy.
Carls Jr......I wanna double meat star with bacon and jalapeno
needs some people, other than that... yeah, its pretty darn hard to fault.
