Honestly... I was sceptical. Well, it WORKS!!!! Thank you so much. My entry-level Disco3 stereo was completely dead, not even the clock; and this fix worked first time!

My CD on discovery 3 stop working, whiles radio and Aux were working after fitting in a new battery and alternator. But thank God watching your clip and resetting the battery (ACU) , its now working perfectly. If you have the same problem try it, it works. Thank you so much, you saved me some pounds. You are a genius 👏 🙌
i had this exact same problem, have tired the hard reset but unfortunately hasn't worked for me :(. i was so hoping it would as it has fixed the issue for so many others.
I've had this issues on and off por the past few months and was just happy to have the music come on at random times during a drive or even at start up. Today is the first time I have absolutely no audio, but I have full controls... And get this! The subwoofer in the tailgate is the only thing that plays! What are your thoughts?
That's a really tough issue, I am not sure what that could be. If the hard reset does not work you will need to work through each part in turn. If I had to guess I would suggest a cable connection fault as it is intermittent, or failing that an amplifier issue. If you have a pal with a D3 then you might be able to swap parts to see which one is at fault. Best of luck.
Didn't work for me, unfortunately. My 2006 Disco 3/LR3 radio has been getting increasingly worse. The only symptom is no volume. All the other radio controls work. I didn't have any volume for months, then a couple of weeks ago it was working until I shut it down. Then, back to no volume. My Rover mechanic has fixed dozens of these and he thinks it's the amp. Other people have said it's likely the wiring harness. Others say the head unit. At 180K miles and having other issues with this truck, I'm not sure it's worth much investment in the radio. Is there any reliable way to diagnose where the issue is? It seems like a meter could tell me if they amp has any output easily enough.
Hey, great video. Glad i found it as I've been having this issue for a few months now. But... RIGHT after I do the reset, the radio works when I check it. But then the next time i get in the car, it does not work. I could wait 10mins or 1min, the second key on after reset I'm back to the same issue. Do you know if something else is going on? I've made sure to let the car sit for a long time (30mins) with the battery unplugged to let all residual current drain, and also have the + and - connected for at least 30mins as well.
Thats a shame, I have heard several people say the same so perhaps there may be another problem that I'm not aware of. Maybe in the Amp. I would also check the battery level and age - these Discos need strong batteries in good condition.
Hello, Thanks for this procedure. To well understand, you disconnnected totally the battery (2 plugs out). Then, you link the 2 plugs with a wire(the red one I your video)? Thank you
Correct, it seemed to work for me! I say it in the video but I'll say again (just in case!) You must never connect the actual battery terminals together. Serious injury and damage will occur. What I did here was merely connect the car's connectors together. After disconnecting the battery, let the car settle for a few minutes first before doing the procedure. Please do subscribe, I have more D3 LR3 videos coming soon!
Good morning Team Falcon. What I am doing is connecting together the vehicle's battery connector leads. I've used a jump lead for ease, it would not have mattered wether I had used the red or black one. I am not sure that I understand your question. There are no positive (or negative) ends on the jumper cables - they are just a cable. I used a single jumper cable for ease but I could have used anything conductive. The goal was to connect together the car's main feed cables, a single jumper cable makes this easy. I know I say it a few times in the video, but again to be sure - do NOT connect the battery terminals together as this may cause major damage to the vehicle and result in serious injury. Once I disconnected the battery I did not touch it again until I was ready to reconnect it all back together again at the end.
You are trying to connect the terminals together. You don't need jumper cables. You could use some other single wire to connect them together. Using jumper cables is just a convenient way to do it.
My 2008 LR3 has a problem where when you turn the car on if the radio screen doesn’t turn off in the first minute or 2 then it will stay on the full drive until car is off again, if it turns off then I can’t do anything screen is just blank with no audio or control. This is completely random as well. Is this the fix I should do?
I reckon it is probably worth trying! Mine has a similar problem, sometimes it just turns off randomly when driving and I cannot turn it back on again. When I get in next time, it is fine. I'm working on a fix...
Hi KimKimKim, the one lead I used merely joined up the two ends of the car's battery connectors. You could anything conductive. Obviously, as I state in the video, do NOT connect the battery terminals together, personal injury would be likely!
That's a shame, I did mine when I recorded it and it just worked perfect ever since. I suspect you may have a faulty amp, or maybe some other part of the audio system.
Not necessarily, I could have used either cable. For ease I just used one cable to connect the two ends of the car's battery connectors together. You could also use a spanner or other metal object. Just make sure you never connect the battey terminals together, that would be disastrous!
I think it might, but I haven't tried it so if you do have a go it will be at your risk! The D3 and RRS are basically much the same vehicle under the skin.
I did not close the doors for a specific reason, I just wanted to demonstrate that you ought to open the windows before doing the job. Just in case of electrical fault, at least you'd be able to get back into the car. The hard reset purges all the residual electricity in the car's systems. Hence it can solve a lot of electrical gremlins.
I haven't tried this on a dual battery setup so I'm not entirely sure, but certainly if I was doing it I would be disconnecting both batteries just in case 👍🏻
@@WeekendWarrior-Official My 2009 had same problem in April 2024 , and after i followed your instructions today, my car got fixed. The garage was asking me to replace the whole sound unit for 500 USD. ☝️😊
After disconnecting the battery I left it calm down for about 10 minutes. Then connected the two ends of the car leads (not the battery - do NOT connect the battery terminals) together and gave it about 5 mins. That's more than enough. Reconnect it all and it should work.
Thanks a shame, sorry it didn't work for you. Perhaps you may have a problem with the amp. Sometimes this works for people, but other times not. Good old Land Rover! Thanks for watching, and please do subscribe!
That's a shame. Have you tired reading fault codes? If you haven't already done so, you should also try searching on Disco3.co.uk as it has loads of help on there too.
You can buy code readers at most parts shop, or Amazon. If you have a land rover I recommend a GAP IID tool, it is fantastic. You can then plug it into the car to read the faults.
@@WeekendWarrior-Official whenever I were try to raise the volume it used to show “LOW POWER MODE” , after few weeks doing that now there is nothing showing, everything else( all buttons) works except the volume button
The low power mode you can ignore. The system does not allow you to go above volume 20 whilst the engine is off to avoid flattening the battery. If you turn the engine on, it'll work fine. The other issue of no volume now, that is odd. The reset is the only way I know yo try to resolve that.
Not sure what you mean... you don't do anything to the batteries other than disconnecting them. Once disconnected you may try the procedure on the car, bit as I said I've not tried it with a dual battery setup before. It may work, or may not! I suspect that you may have an amp problem. They are known to fail sometimes. It is under the driver's seat (my car is right hand drive), try disconnecting and reconnecting the various plugs to it. Hopefully that will work but if not you may need a replacement amp.
Mine doesn’t work on fm, but does on cd and am....I swapped the radio to another d3 I own and it worked , but now the non working fm doesn’t work in the other car. Head unit faulty.
Essentially it totally drains any and all of the electronic circuits - capacitors etc. So any errors hanging around in the PCBs gets cleared and when you restart, it is like the radio system is brand new and starts up fresh. Anyway, thats the theory. So long as it works!
This procedure essentially is a hard reset/reboot of the car gremlins back to factory defaults except the stored settings on devices like his radio. It's akin to rebooting your smart phone and then applying factory defaults option to it.
I thought the video was clear on the dead short of the positive and negative terminals via using a jump lead that happen to be the red lead (positive lead). But never the less, the only symptom I see here was land rovers failed attempts @ making a reliable vehicle.
