  • George RR Martin kept his promise and blogged some of his complaints about how Ryan Condal, Sara Hess and the writers unfaithfully adapted his Dance of the Dragons story from Fire and Blood. After HBO intervened he pulled his blog. The link to an archived version of the blog, "Beware of the Butterflies" though is below.

    Some people's brains broke to back the show over the guy that wrote the book.

    Maelor erasure is the symptom of a larger issue. If Condal understood the story he was adapting he would understand that the changes he made ruined the narrative.

    Just imagine, he made them look like hacks, and a writer friend of Martin said that this blog was the mildest criticism of the show that he's told him.

    No way they were gonna let him do a series of posts , especially after he spoiled season 3, that’s why I wish he put it all in one post or publish them all at once before hbo got a hold of him

      Yeah it was a long post too, and what's crazy is that it was only on the first episode. To cover everything would be the size of a Dunk and Egg novella. Too bad he just didn't at least include bullet points at the end for the other problems.

    Clear sign George is going to war. In the opening clip he traded in his signature fisherman's cap for a new hat type. lol

    sadly, season 3 will suck because of what they've established in season 2. Character arcs butchered, some to the point of no return.

      Alicent was the worst of them all, turning on her entire family and asking Rhaenyra to run away with her.

    I think GRRM knows he’s partially responsible for D&D messing up GOT since he didn’t finish the books and that’s why he wasn’t as angry as he is now. Condal and Hess on the other hand have no excuse. Fire and blood is finished.

    • @reelworld1
      @reelworld1  8 днів тому +4

      I think that's part of it too. In that full interview he did from the opening clip I used, he commented on his biggest regret being not finishing it yet. So it's on his mind. There was material that Dan and Dave cut out from the books, but they could always counter with the fact that they had enough arcs to finish on their own, that they needed to eliminate some.

    They need to get rid of Sara Hess a butcher I always thought of Ryan Condal as a Student of asoiaf an truly trusted him to do the right thing
    An if you look at season 1 opening theme episode 8 on you can see Alicent children an Aegon an Healannas children we see the twins an a tiny newborn baby at the left so WHY do we see this an no Maelor in season 2

    • @visenyasghost

    • @reelworld1
      @reelworld1  8 днів тому +1

      I know. It was a lame excuse about the kids. We had Rhaenyra's younger children too this season. Blood and Cheese was written out for them perfectly. Yet they removed the two most critical elements, waiting in Alicent's room for Helaena, and then making her choose between the sons. Even putting aside the future importance of Maelor, who looks at that scene and says, yeah lets just take all this suspenseful, emotional stuff out.

      During the season I noticed channels that put out their reviews right after the show ended because HBO sent the episodes to them in advance. These channels never said anything really bad about the show, except nitpicks to make it seem like they were being balanced but they never went to the real problems. I unsubscribed from one of them because the creator started attacking their viewers for leaving critical comments about the show.

    There are probably more people who watch the show than read the book.
    But I can tell you for sure that more people who read the book liked it than people who like the show.

      I've noticed a lot of non book readers called this season boring. I was too frustrated by the deviations from Fire and Blood to be bored. I think their reaction is largely due to the story not progressing very much in Season 2.

    The new trend of George’s adaptations is to have half the show be fantastic, and the other half be slop. Though I'm sure many will argue over the half-half ratio.

      I never would've thought I'd come to appreciate the 4 great seasons Dan and Dave gave us of GoT, after the second half was screwed up so badly, until these people came along and could only do one good season.

    What this means for the future? People are not gonna pay any subscriptions for 8 episodes of a serie what end in a cliffhanger where we need to wait two years for the next 6 and maybe if we are lucky 8 episodes.. We gonna enjoy it from the pirate websites and HBO is gonna feel it financially in the long run.

    • @reelworld1
      @reelworld1  6 днів тому

      Yeah it doesn't help that they have two seasons left of this mess. At least if it was one, we could get that over with and then move onto another series with people more committed to being faithful to his writing.

  • @visenyasghost
    @visenyasghost 8 днів тому +4

    HBO is hurting the franchise by covering for House of the Dragon. Like you said if they recognized the problems then we could have faith in future shows. They should listen to George, then shorten HotD episodes to focus on just the big moments and wrap up the series in a 6 episode season 3 and then 6 or less in the last season. Then do the right thing with the Aegon's Conquest series by following George direction with it. Instead they're all going to pretend nothing is wrong with HotD.

    • @reelworld1
      @reelworld1  8 днів тому +2

      If the audience plummets on House of the Dragon it's going to jeopardize the Conquest series. After the Season 2 mess, I'm curious to see how The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms does next year.

      The GoT problem has more layers to it. House of the Dragon's story was finished and they just went off on their own tangent because they wanted to, and after only one season. Game of Thrones had 4 excellent seasons. Then the quality began to go off the rails in 5. Season 6 was a bit better than 5 but not up to the level of the first 4 and then it just plummeted in 6 and 7. Dan and Dave excluded book material they could've used, so they're to blame there, and also for rushing to finish. And then of course with GoT the final books weren't finished by Martin. So both sides could conceivably point at the other one.
