Yeah ! Even though he's playing a lot of syncopations, it was actually easy to play along to his solo, because he strongly kept in the pocket of that 15/8 riff ! No click needed ;)

As I side note - the song sounds like Iranian mugam Jazz resp. Aziza Mustafa Zadeh. Larnell plays quite some metal drum grooves which makes the song interesting. Also it is not so difficitult to understand that track structure and it gives maximum space for drums.
I don't know about that artist from Iran but I'll check that out ! Thanks :)
@@MathieuFiset wtf. Aziza is the QUEEN of Jazz. Uehera is just an update playing with the same band. But I would love to hear "metal" resp. metalcore/progressive metal drums and double bass in Jazz. I am waiting resp. playing that kind of stuff for a long time. And till this day people laugh about this mix of metal and jazz.

*Not so much “learned a song” as “was given a basic structure to solo over”. I would consider it “learning a song” IF LARNEL COULD REPEAT THE PARTS HE PLAYED. If not then it was a bad ass solo, which hey, I’m perfectly fine with. It just seems kinda odd to call this learning a song. When it was essentially a jam with a prearranged outro.*
