  • Vagus nerve balancing can be a key to your health journey. Practice this exercise a minimum of 2 x/day or as recommended by your doctor. This can be done in times of stress, but is best done to help balance - before experiencing stress.
    Please let me know if you have any questions.

    This has really made a great improvement for me after anxiety and balance problems following a stroke two years ago. I don't really understand why it works, but it certainly does and I don't think it is just some placebo effect. Thank you for posting it.

      I highly recommend looking up vagus nerve stretches and stretches for anxiety, and vagus nerve activation exercises/stretches and making a playlist. Watch it and do them along with them every day you can even the ones that repeat. You'll start learning them and making it a habit very easily and quickly. It's the only thing that helps me. I'm trying to avoid a stroke or heat attack and trying to get medical treatment for other conditions and doing what I can in the meantime. Glad to hear you are still with us, Bertie.

      @chuck u farlie I'm a covid long hauler it's been 1 1/2 years since I first got sick it's been a long recovery and about 85% better... during the first couple of months I had really bad anxiety that developed along with what was happening which was high heart palpitations and my limbs would get cold this went on for a few months and left me in the ER many times.. doctors wanted to label it anxiety and just give me Xanax but I refused to say that was the main cause as covid leaves wide spectrum of issues.. during this time I read about the vagus nerve and it was interesting.. even to this day I feel a soreness on the back of my head to lower neck.. so just wanted to share and praying for all those going through these types of issues..

    I do this exercise sitting on a chair with my hands relaxed in my lap. I first turn my head all the way to each side and hold until I yawn. Then, with my face facing forward, I turn my eyes all the way to each side and hold until I yawn. It works.
    I have Cushing's disease and this exercise helps reset my nervous system.

      If you feel like it doesn't work keep at it for at least 2-4 weeks. It may be that your vagus nerve needs THAT MUCH help before it will actually balance. I find people who don't 'get a response' within a few seconds give up on it. Your nervous system may actually need MUCH more than a few seconds for it to balance.

    thank you for this video dr cheryl! i hope this helps reset the vagal tone towards parasympathetic activity. may i know - so i can inform the people i help - what the mechanism is like or the rationale for how it helps do this? warm regards, peter

    I want to do this exercise whilst playing guitar, in order to practice in a more sympathetic state. I haven't read stanleys book yet. Might there be any benefit from practicing with the eyes set to their outermost left or right side (in turns of course), or does this exercise only work with the hands behind the head? many thanks

    • @sandtx4913
      @sandtx4913 3 роки тому +1

      I believe doing the eye movements icw the intertwining of the left & right hand and then placing them behind the head causes the left & right brain hemispheres to (re)connect.

      Vagus nerve mediates parasympathetic state so this will do the opposite of sympathetic.

    Are you supposed to feel sensations in your hand? Is there a specific way to position yourself on the floor? Is the sensation at the back of the throat like an itch? I've never done this before and not sure what sensations I'm "supposed" to feel or notice.

      Great!!! It's like if a train is off it's tracks and trying to steer back in line...it can be much harder to get the vagus nerve back on track if it's WAY off. The more you do this the easier it is to get back on line - maybe because your body now knows the pathway, and/or maybe because you're not as far off track as you were initially. Great work!!!

      @cherylkarthaus3067  Рік тому +1

      I'd love to hear about this if it's your experience. It may depend what the dizziness is caused by. You're not moving your head so positional vertigo from crystals moving inside your ears should not be an issue with this.

    How would you know if the stomach Vagus nerve is not working?

    • @cherylkarthaus3067
      @cherylkarthaus3067  Рік тому

      Signs of vagal nerve dysfunction can be anything that the vagus nerve innervates (the vagus nerve 'controls') including sensations and functions of.... heart rate, digestion/bowel movements, nausea, reflux/heart burn, dizziness, anything anxiety related really. If you think of symptoms of a 'panic attack' those are typically mostly due to the vagus nerve influence.

    • @cherylkarthaus3067
      @cherylkarthaus3067  Рік тому

      I actually assess it in my practice - check he back of your throat. The little "hangy ball" (your uvula) may be more deviated to one side or the other - that is an easy way to assess vagus nerve dysfunction, but it's not 100% reliable.
