I could be because I had to change the resolution in BFG edition to 1280x1024 in order to make the comparison look similar. BFG edition is widescreen, but I had to put it into a 4:3 aspect ratio for this comparison.
@@patrikkrywult I think it's that the original is just a darker game in general. They did brighten BFG a little. I think it's darker areas accents the lighting more. The same sources are probably in BFG edition, they just don't stand out as much.

Shadows look better in BFG edition but the textures look better in vanilla. That's weird.
