@@stratejic1020 If you play the alpha, then compare the final game. You will notice the difference. Alpha 's corpse won't disappear. And zombies are harder to kill.
@@jasonlou2013S yes but you got to realize why that is, firstly the maps in the final build are much larger and have way more in them and it would just cause a lot more lag. Also the zombies aren't supposed to be harder to kill they're already hard enough in the final build because they wanted to have a mix between action-packed and making you feel like a badass but horror at the same time which they pulled off very well on the final build and while it was pulled off well in the demo the demo was frustrating. Also the scares in the demo are cheap and just aren't scary but a lot of the scares in Doom 3 are still scary today. Don't get me wrong I think that the alpha build is really good for its time but I just don't think it stands up to the final build for many reasons.
@@stratejic1020 I just wanted to enjoy the horror of Doom3. Not think too much. Of course this is a demo. In final game, they changed tons of features to fit machines in that time. Like 6600gt, x700, 6800agp. Wow, that's 15 years ago. Finally, don't forget he'll knight can not be killed in demo but can be eliminated in final game.
Because they were made for a small subsect of the population and now are made for everyone. There are still games like this, just don't expect them to be developed by big companies, which are now struggling even with all the people they try to attract. Give Trepang2 a try
A word of warning for everyone who follows this fix: Makes sure that you check that in NVIDIA profile inspector, in the "other" section, "Enable application for optimus" is set to "0x00000001 SHIM_RENDERING_MODE_ENABLE"
I keep saying over and over, a team could try to make Doom 3 into the prototype that was discarded. It would be great as a bizarre survival. I guess in the end an action game sells more, perhaps it was a financial decision to remove feats.
I belive both the body and pentagram were in the actual game, but the pentagram was drawn on the seeling and the body was hanging off it... They were never on a floor like in the demo.
Wish they went ahead and made mars city like they made in this demo, but sadly I'm sure there were too many technical constraints preventing the execution.
It makes me happy to see how many people give proper credit to D3. It was an awesome game only to be surpassed (IMO) only by DOOM 2016. Fuck the haters
Man, the death animations looks great, I would have liked they had keep the death animations and the bodies on the place in the final version, and zombies respawning would have been a great detail too, they could have done this with demons too, that could have added a random situation factor to the game, killing some zombies and demons in a place, you leave the place and the monsters revive to following you or wait to the next time you pass there, but not all the monsters just 1 or 2 reviving randomly and just a second time or even sometimes don't reviving at all or just some times reviving for a third time, and you can't avoid this unexpected situations until you found powerfull weapons like the granades or rockets to destroy their bodies or the chainsaw, the chainsaw would have been a tool to clear areas of the bodies of zombies and demons.
I always felt the alpha had better atmosphere and that Doom 3 would've been a better game if they went in this direction, the better and creepier sound design also adds to it.
Other than the fact that Doom Guy looks like he has shit himself whenever he waddles, game is faster paced, monsters don't dissapear after you kill them seems better than the final version.
No but it’s just an “alpha” demo. It was more about showing off the dynamic lighting and the stuff the engine could do. The movement is way awkward and they only did bare bones voice acting for this since it’s not even a trailer.

Most similar to what may happen in reality - dark and scary. With electricity and comms malfunctions. I think Doom 3 isn't this funny, but pretty close to real situation. Considering that reality won't get you alive from Mars base. Alpha version just confirms it.

@@raahim11Except for the fact that the Doom 3 Shotgun requires the player to be two-feet in front of the enemy to be used effectively and even then it's not the best Shotgun in a Doom game.
What I like a lot in this version that bodies don't simply burn away on death. That was such a clown move from the final version. I remembered painting the walls red in the OG Dooms and then in Doom 3...nothing. I mean, I absolutely loved the game for what it was, but there were some minor details I didn't like.
It was just to have a way to maintain suspension of disbelief for the player while at the same time optimizing a game for computers of the time. There's a config line that removes this and keeps the bodies from disapearing. I remember because I didn't want my dead strogg "teleporting" when I played Quake 4 years after release.
The engine was 6 years old already. Those revolutionary ideas of Carmack did not bode well with the old engine. He upgraded the engine of course every one or two years, but it shown its age in Doom3. This is why the final version chose the path for "optimization". And lacked already shaders who were present in quake3, especially those refined metallic shaders that you see in quake3 the map q3tourney4 -those shaders were admittedly heavy even on the quake3 engine who used compiled lightning so they removed that shiny block in pro-q3tourney4.
@@nealpage9449 Hello again, friend :) Do you have an idea for AMD RX / Radeon graphics cards so that the game displays shiny maps again? On Nvidia cards in nvinspector it was possible to set an extension limit, do you know how to set an extension limit for AMD / ATI cards?

Dosn't include the levels, it's just a gameplay mod trought. It brings back the original shotgun model and clip, player speed, fix armor, add crawling imps back, the sound effects and the hud. Very cool

Kind of disappointing in the end.. and visually, each one brought things to the table but none of them really brought any improvements to gameplay in the terms of the primary mechanic of the shooting.. and for the most part far cry have the real-time shadows, better physics than Doom 3, not as much as Half-Life 2.. Way better shooting than both, way better gameplay and level design... Significantly worse voice acting lol.. But you know..
Man I really thought that was going to be the future, like how could you go back from that in my head.. and then the 7th generation happened and cleaned up what the Xbox already hadn't in the complete dilapidation of the PC as a platform to design games for. I just wish it wasn't so insulting so much as to do it with the sequels of really great games like fear, far cry, system shock, etc..
Самое начало выглядит шикарно, эта красноватая дымка, и застреленные зомбаки, которые встают за спиной, это были реально крутые находки, жаль что от них отказались

This is even more scarier than final game.
Thats true :)
I disagree I think this is very tame in comparison
John Carmack is a master of his craft.
dude walked like he poo'd his pants
The machine gun in Doom3 alpha demo looks great, it think it looks better and sounds better than in the final version!
Still wish he could put on a helmet but sense he never wears it in the final game anyways this is the only time he does it.
I'm surprised someone hasn't made a map pack in the style of the alpha. Closet thing I know of is the maps people made for the alpha.
The machine gun was strong as hell then.
Why aren't games like this anymore?

Before there was doom 2016 and doom eternal. There was doom 3.
2:34 The textures of the body and the pentagram have been kept in the Doom 3 files
I belive both the body and pentagram were in the actual game, but the pentagram was drawn on the seeling and the body was hanging off it... They were never on a floor like in the demo.
@@wildesthog exactly, the body can be seen in the elevator to reach cyberdemon, end of the game
Wish they went ahead and made mars city like they made in this demo, but sadly I'm sure there were too many technical constraints preventing the execution.

**silent shotgun sound**
Yeah.... right.....
Man, the death animations looks great, I would have liked they had keep the death animations and the bodies on the place in the final version, and zombies respawning would have been a great detail too, they could have done this with demons too, that could have added a random situation factor to the game, killing some zombies and demons in a place, you leave the place and the monsters revive to following you or wait to the next time you pass there, but not all the monsters just 1 or 2 reviving randomly and just a second time or even sometimes don't reviving at all or just some times reviving for a third time, and you can't avoid this unexpected situations until you found powerfull weapons like the granades or rockets to destroy their bodies or the chainsaw, the chainsaw would have been a tool to clear areas of the bodies of zombies and demons.
man doom Doom 3 looked damn good for when it came out
and this is technically from TWO YEARS before that!
т.е. фонарик был изначально встроен , а потом его отдельно сделали :)
фонарик включался читами через консоль, его по факту там не было и никто им не пользовался в 2002-2003

Am I the only one thay gets "B Movie" vibes from this?
No but it’s just an “alpha” demo. It was more about showing off the dynamic lighting and the stuff the engine could do.
The movement is way awkward and they only did bare bones voice acting for this since it’s not even a trailer.
Holy shit, you got highlights to work again! Now the demo shines as much as it's original presentation. How'd you get it?
I will make a video soon
@@nealpage9449 This E3 build seems different than other Doom 3 E3 demos. Especially the low ammo warning on the Assault Rifle at: 12:06 .
Do you still have this build, so that other people can play this version? Thank you so much for fixing the graphical issues that are present in older Doom 3 E3 demos! :D
Noticed the new fix through ModDB, but was disappointed to realize it's Nvidia only. I'm stuck to an AMD card and tried a lot of console methods and wrappers just to see what works.
Most similar to what may happen in reality - dark and scary. With electricity and comms malfunctions.
I think Doom 3 isn't this funny, but pretty close to real situation. Considering that reality won't get you alive from Mars base.
Alpha version just confirms it.
They should've kept some of these features in the final game. The zombie fake death is pretty cool and is resident evil esque.
Yes it freaked the s*** out of me back then. I remember staying over a zombie for a minute just to wait if he comes back. It was very scary as a child.

Блин, даже в альфа-версии фонарик нагрудный и дробовик более кучно стреляет...
scarier and visuals a lot better than final version , for example volumetric shadows have been in alpha but in final not :(
What I like a lot in this version that bodies don't simply burn away on death.
The imps are terrifying
They looked much better in doom II
@@Flofy387okay?
Man i cant believe they have ran demo on some machine with that graphics in 2002
Obviously it wasn't that high resolution back then, 640x480 max for most machines AND no specular highlights.
So the dead bodies disappearing in D3 was done due to the engine limitations?
Nope, optimisation
The engine was 6 years old already. Those revolutionary ideas of Carmack did not bode well with the old engine. He upgraded the engine of course every one or two years, but it shown its age in Doom3. This is why the final version chose the path for "optimization". And lacked already shaders who were present in quake3, especially those refined metallic shaders that you see in quake3 the map q3tourney4 -those shaders were admittedly heavy even on the quake3 engine who used compiled lightning so they removed that shiny block in pro-q3tourney4.
Can't believe that shotgun made it through alpha and beta. It's a complete joke.

Back in the day it would seriously tank performance to have that many models on screen at once. It's why Quake 4 does it too. I know there's a tweaker to remove that from Q4, so I'm sure there's one for Doom 3 as well.
Is there any mod that tries to bring it to the final game?
