I'm making a prototype of a miniature solar system where you can fly your spaceship between planets and walk around the surface of each one with (relatively) realistic physics. I plan to make an actual game out of this eventually, so stay tuned for that.
========================================================
Music used (in order of appearance)
- Title theme from Asteroid Arcade
- Overworld Day from the Terraria soundtrack
- Sun Station theme from Outer Wilds
Sections:
0:00 Intro
0:15 Dyson sphere & bad lighting
1:10 Fixing player movement
2:00 Streamlining planet creation
5:08 Recreating the solar system
7:33 Outro
incredible how this clever creator managed to perfectly simulate life on earth I was able to find the house where my ex wife moved with her new boyfriend Dean and was able to finally see my kids again i am truly blessed
I've always liked the idea of tiny planets after playing outer wilds.
Same!
I look forward to your videos very much, they give such a calm and meditative vibe. Also impressive that you did this all by yourself!
Thank you! glad you like them
I liked how you fixed the spinning
I'm glad it worked so easily
This is awesome! I remember trying to make a game with Outer Wilds physics a while ago, only to be repelled by the problems of the character controller and shaders. Your solution to the spinning finally fixes the last controller problem I had! Now I just have to learn shaders. Looking forward to more videos of this project!
I'm glad my solution was useful! I was in the same boat when I first tried this over a year ago, giving up due to the difficulty of implementing the controls. Good luck learning shaders!
Godot?! Planets?! Gravity?! Thanks a lot!
i think i would play that
wow this is really cool
Thank you glad you liked it!
This looks great man. I tried something similar a while back when Godot 4 was in alpha but the engine just wasn't there yet. This makes me wanna give it another shot. Just subscribed last night and I'm hype to see what you end up making in the future
Yeah it does feel like you're fighting with the engine sometimes, part of me wishes I was just using Unity but I'm in too deep now
Oooh, this looks lovely. I hope it's not too intimidating to implement Outer Wilds' "match velocity" controls for this since it just feels like the best option for movement, and would be neat to figure out.
For sure, I'll definitely want to implement that and also autopilot!
this looks very cool
thank you classic, YOU are very cool
Make a hollow sphere in exact place where saturn is, and then paint outside with transparent texture, and the inside with non-transparent so that the part of rings that's behind the saturn is not visible
Oh interesting, I'll try that thank you!
Wow this is really interesting,
I started and finished playing outer wilds this week and I was browsing through tons of content, I saw one of your vids and finished watching it to then watch another vid about outer wilds on another tab i previously opened, but I forgot to close this tab, I normally wouldn't mind or care but I went back to that tab just because I didn't close it, to see that I didn't like your vid which felt like it had some work put on it, and while closing the tab another vid of yours caught my eye, and you did some math in that, and I was interested in the vid, then looked at your channel to see if you still post vids and saw that you're making this really cool simulation of our solar system.
I'm interested in space, space flight sim games, game design, outer wilds and programming so I can randomly enjoy a new (to me) youtuber which makes this really spesific/niche(?) but interesting outer wilds style solar system project, weird world
Sorry for the wall of text and lacking punctuation, it's 100% me being lazy
Glad you found it interesting, and that you're interested in the weirdly specific niche I'm in lol
@@xen-42 hah, knew you would read my comment, hope to see the end of your project.
Also, you seem like a pretty swell fella, so here's some random kindness from a stranger, thanks for existing, you're doing great work, hope you are succesful in whatever you're working on👌
If you want to add moons, just add the major moons (Galilean moons for Jupiter, Phobos and Deimos for Mars, etc.)
Yeah totally, would keep it to somewhat of a minimum. Will also have to space the planets out a lot more to fit all those moons in though, even if it's only a couple per planet
jammer approved, u have a nice voice. 10/10
thank you jammer very cool
Very Cool
Thank you!
for the record, the reason the ambient light wasn't working was because your source was set to "background". if you want the color to affect ambient light, you have to change it to "color"
just tried that and nah didnt work, only distant objects were affected by it and once I got close to them the light would vanish.
@@xen-42 weird. it should work. i dunno then
Nice, the graphics remind me of the outer wilds alpha
That's what I'm going for!
terraria music lets go
Figured I should start branching out from just playing outer wilds music over these videos, it's a bit on the nose
How did you do the orbit lines? Just curious what method you used, are these Line2D's?
I made each line segment its own ImmediateMesh with 2 vertices. I don't remember why I did it that way.
This is such a fun project :)
Do you need any help modelling?
I might in the future! For now I want to fix up the basics and get an idea of what scope I think I can achieve before I look for help. When/if I get to that point I'll be sure to let you know
@@xen-42 Of course! Looking forward to more updates :)

Please make the diagram
But it hurts my brain!
@@xen-42 I want it to hurt my brain
3:36 proof?
fr tho this is looking amazing, keep it up! (also if u do configs could u use yaml 🥺)
no proof!!!!!! also ok i will use yaml
Your system is wrong cus earth is flat😃
damn ur right!
