I loved the "Now do a prize comparison" comment. No one ever thinks about how much a healthy lifestyle costs. It's only "Just buy organic, regional, seasonal groceries." no one is like "If you can afford it, just buy organic, regional, seasonal groceries."
I was in a store once looking for grapes Founds some for $5.99 a lb! The produce manager said they were organic and pesticide free. I asked where the pesticide laden grapes were, because I could just wash it off for a cheaper price. She was not amused.
If you cook your meals with fresh ingredients it's waaaay cheaper than drinking soda and eating chips or processed food
@@undomiel466 - you have to get your kitchen set up first. If I want to cook a new recipe and it requires that I buy several spices I don't already have or other fresh ingredients I don't already have, suddenly that one meal is more expensive than if I bought dinner off the dollar menu at McDonald's.

That is why I ask "where is the last place you REMEMBER having it?" We then start retracing steps from that point forward.
Years ago, I was floored when my sister told me that when her kids said they couldn’t find something she would take them with her as she looked under the bed, in the closet, etc. It had never occurred to me that they had to be taught how to look for something. I think some adults never got those lessons.
I hate the phrase "It's always in the last place you look." Well, no shit. It's not like I'm gonna keep looking for it after I find it.
That was the original point of the statement. It was kind of a joke.

Several years ago I took my youngest son to the library and had them show him the big ole dictionary they have there, with the pronunciation of words written right alongside the words. They no longer teach how to use a dictionary at school. I think this all happened after an issue with "Madras". Then I bought a huge thick dictionary for at home- my kids laughed at me because I would open it randomly and read it :)

U-know I started using the online dictionary about 5 years ago...When I can't understand the meaning of a word I read somewhere or heard I look it up and even use a synonym website to find similar words with the same meaning when I'm writing something. Dictionaries are great!
you also can just type the word into google and they'll give you the pronunciation.
As a translator, I second that: words are indeed awesome! :)
One of my favorite gifts (for my 13th birthday, I think) was a large hardcover dictionary. I used it for many years -- basically till the Web was created.
The photosynthesis joke: so the person can live from just absorbing sunlight 😂
I think he meant, "Learn to DO photosynthesis..." ...? Maybe?
For the "it's always in the last place you look", I now quickly advance to "where wouldn't I put it" and often find things faster. You know, like "I was putting away groceries, so the keys are probably in the fridge or freezer" stuff.
I did find my work keys in the fridge once. It's so true! I tend to think the same thing now too. 😂😂

Hahah love it. Where I live in Canada if you have access to cows you could butcher yourself, that’s a lot more ethical and sustainable than shipping in vegan products from hundreds of miles away! I also believe that if you can’t handle the sight of your meat being prepared you shouldn’t eat it, so I love the idea of that masterclass even if you never actually butcher anything!

Exactly! At one point I would have had to feed a family of 3 for a week on what that healthy side cost.
12 years ago I became chronically ill and my income halved. As a result my groceries simply can't be as healthy as before anymore, nor can I cook from scratch anymore, even though it has become even more important. And then our dumbass government wants to add extra tax to unhealthy and less healthy things, while it has been known for years that in my country fruit, veggies and other healthy things are simply too expensive for people with a below average income, especially when they are single (years ago, when I could still afford a holiday I went to Greece and fruit and vegetables are not just super yummy, but like half the price. So there I eat slices of tomato with olive oil and fresh feta as a late night snack, or bring a bag or grapes to the beach. Yum!) Why not subsidise healthy options? Or force the food industry to come up with actual healthy varieties?
I still try and when I have been able to save on electricity f.e. during the winter I love to go to the fresh produce market in summer and get myself some juicy fruits and a bag full of crispy veggies for my meal or an oven dish (great movie snack: slices of bell pepper with a Greek yoghurt dip!) If fatty fishes or fresh nuts are within budget I'll definitely get myself that too. I'll never say no to a smoked mackerel green salad with orange slices, or a raw spinach salad with strawberries, feta and pine nuts (add crispy bacon for extra treat, and the saltiness). Healthy=yummy, but unfortunately for me also unaffordable most of the time.
Whenever I come across this kind of comment, I feel grateful living in a tropical country where fresh ingredients are way cheaper than fast/processed food. My poorer college friends and me basically thrived by cooking and eating healthy.

For anyone who doesn't get the "please learn photosynthesis" joke, they're asking the original commentator to learn how to DO photosynthesis like a plant would, so they won't ever have to create the pineapple-strawberry pasta again (because plants make their own food internally from water and carbon dioxide, and therefore don't have to eat anything).
if he learns photosynthesis that will sustain him, he never has to eat again.

The price comparison is what poor people can afford. Even if you get more food, some people just don't have the money OR the cooking knowhow to cook up the right lol. JS that was probably his point. Well not the cooking know how. I threw that in for good measure LMAO
And it sucks bruh. Dad and I are both disabled and on social security and we spend it on medical and food. We buy as much produce as we can and drink no sodas (that's a waste of money) but you really have to catch sales. It helps that my diet is low in meat due to an uncommon kidney disease (meat is hella expensive right now). Cooking over eating convince food helps but it depends on if your neighborhood has a full grocery store or not. Lots of low income neighborhoods only have mini marts and fast food restaurants because grocery stores are too expensive to keep open or because they tend to get robbed.
This! "You can't put a price on health!" is a super privileged thing to say, tbh. Because yes, you actually can. Lots of people have to choose between meds or groceries.
I'm poor, always seem to live below the poverty level, but my mom taught me chef skills and buying food on sale, and managing different meal recipes using simple yet nutritional foods including fruit and veggies, with added junk food on rare occasions as a treat I manage quite well under very tight budget constraints. Damn, some of us poor should be working for the government as budget chiefs.

It's a shame schools don't teach home ec and cooking anymore. It blows and I had a rice cooker and George Forman grill while living in a garage. I had to learn pretty fast cause food stamps don't get you cooked food and I relied heavily on UA-cam to learn but cooked a lot of super bland rice and frozen chicken

Totally. I was like, "Can't put a price on good health"? Try getting a kidney stone in the US without decent insurance. Oddly specific, I know, but there's a reason I went bankrupt at 35, and it wasn't spending too much on avocado toast. Especially when you can make the toast for about $1 a slice.
When I was 11 I went to a grammar school where term started around 5th September. On the 27th September I was knocked down by a mini van speeding and I was off school for over 6 months, that year I got 11% in a Latin exam. Irony upon ironies my degree is law which uses a lot of Latin.

We are in the Detroit suburbs. If you want to look tough when traveling you wear your D gear. If America is pissing people off more than usual, you say you’re Canadian. When I lived on Lake St. Clair, I could see Canada from my deck. 😎🇺🇸🇨🇦😎 We be good neighbors! It used to be a rite of passage to go to Windsor to drink legally on your 19th Birthday 🎉

It's an early failure dream so you keep having it later in life because it developed so early in your formative years. Also school was the culmination of so many of your fears and anxieties that it tends to stick with you. Social anxiety? You'll probably be naked in front of the class. Fail all of your tests? Just general fear of failure in life. Can't find your classroom? You're feeling lost in life and are unsure where to go/what to do next.

@@jnewcomb check our r/bridezillas and search for COVID; there’s all sorts of women who still wanted to hold MASSIVE weddings during the pandemic (or change to a destination wedding to skirt COVID regulations), and flipping out when bridesmaids couldn’t afford to go/didn’t want to risk their health at weddings with literally hundreds of guests. The level of entitlement is *chef’s kiss* because “it’s my special day” trumps the health and well-being of everyone they know/care about, apparently 🤦♀️

There’s so much tea I don’t know where to begin but here are some of her demands and complains (excuse my swenglish 🙈);
-us four bridesmaids had to pay for everything ourselves, including hair, makeup, clothes and accessories. We also had to follow her to different wedding exhibitions that cost money.
-she demanded to know when her bachelorette party was gonna take place and had a list of things we should do at the party. She also said that everyone were to pay 100 dollars minimum otherwise you couldn’t join the party. Three friends dropped out but I felt that I couldn’t as I was one of the bridesmaid.
-her bridesmaids had to be barefoot (no it wasn’t a beach wedding). She is kinda short and didn’t want us to be taller than her because “it’s ME everyone is here to watch”! The floor in the church was very cold fyi 😅)
-one of her best friends didn’t get asked to be a bridesmaid because of her size. According to the bridezilla that type of dress that she had planned for us bridesmaids wouldn’t look good on a “fatty” (her words). The excuse she made to the friend however was that she actually did her a favor because of all the money she would have to put out. Of course the friend found out the truth and was devastated but I told her that she actually dodged a bullet.
-she registered a list of wedding gifts, the cheapest thing cost about 200:- (1800 Swedish crowns). If someone absolutely had to buy something else they would have to check with her first.
-she didn’t want to spend money on a photographer so instead she asked a friend that has a quite expensive camera and does some hobby photographing. When she got the pictures she hated them and said that her friend ruined her wedding. They ain’t talking anymore.
-they didn’t want to spend too much money on the catering so instead the guest were to pay about 25 dollars each to cover the food and PayPal it along with the RVSP. I don’t know if it’s common in other countries, here it’s unusual but some wedding couples request that you pay for the food instead of a gift.
One beer or a glass of wine were included in the price, otherwise they had bought an incredible amount of alcohol in Germany (it’s much cheaper there than in Sweden) and sold it for twice as much.
-she lost about 6 friends (7 if you include me) because of the wedding. People who couldn’t afford to come, one bridesmaid that “resigned” due to all her requests, the photographer, the plus sized friend and others that she trash talked because they had “ugly clothes” that didn’t look good in the photos, didn’t bring the right gift or questioned her demands.

After this complete nightmare I was kinda traumatized and so stressed out that I had to rest for like a week. When I finally had processed everything I realized that she wasn’t a true friend and backed down from the friendship. Nowadays we talk maybe once a year when we happen to run in to each other. I’ve heard that she has talked a lot of trash about me too for being a poor friend but I really don’t care. I understand that you want a perfect wedding day but it’s not an excuse for becoming an awful person.
I worked in retail....the BOD line is literally kept in business by 10-15 year olds with a nice allowance. No joke!

LOL, I had a similar conversation about drinking milk straight from a cow with my old boss. It hadn't occurred to her that cows get stuff on their udder that you don't want in your mouth, or that the milk comes out warm.
Watching her face as the realization struck was priceless. I agree that people should understand where their food comes from, but that PETA ad was pretty ignorant.
I've known two dairy farmers in my life. One never drank store bought milk, the other ONLY drank store bought milk. 🤔
It’s not ignorant if you understand that cows (any literally every other animal in existence) make milk for their babies, not some random being from another species to steal and drink it. Milk is species and litter specific, no batch is the same as it is the primary nutrients for the young that was carried and birthed by its mother (who is hundreds of pounds heavier than the average adult human).
@@kissit012 The moral argument is irrelevant. It's ignorant because drinking milk straight from a cows udder is entirely different than drinking milk from a carton.
You might as well say that if you eat honey then you should stick your face in a beehive to get it. Or if you want to eat broccoli then you should eat it straight from the ground without harvesting or preparation.
If you want to be vegan, then be vegan. Just don't go around throwing around false equivalencies as some ignorant stance for some mythical high ground.

The guy’s name thing! My son played minor hockey for 9 seasons. Every year in September would be a few ice times before the teams got sorted. I would see him on the bench, chatting away. Later I would ask “who was that kid you were talking to?” His answer “ I don’t know “.
