Huge shoutout to AJ for pulling this together! It is something A LOT of the community needs to see. As a developer behind Midnight Racing: Tokyo I approve of this video guide, it will do a great job of getting you started on the basics of transmission tuning and then you can learn more from there. Great job like always!
@Hall of Legends 6365 you can use any shifting for any car, no? they may only came with it in real life but the countach in the game you can use a/t bro, even the 70s mucle cars
Out of all the tutorials I've whatched this is the easiest to understand by a quarter mile. No, by thousandss miles. Now thanks, I can tune my E36 properly
I think that the first final drive slide is backwards - a higher final drive leads to faster acceleration and lower top speed, not the other way around.
Yes! I was waiting for this video it will be super usefull for those who want to learn more about tweaking cars setup. 3:04 one thing to note is Shirakawa Touge got replaced by a new map called Ichikawa Region. Nice video btw 👍
Thank you so much AJ for making this video about tuning the transmission, tuning my car seems like a daunting task at first, then I stumbled upon your video which made it easier to understand. Kudos to you :>
Bro, thank you so much. I've tried other videos and it works, but this is a more simplified explaination and easier to understand. Time to make my Evo 6 go funny
You just want to use the graph on the right. Look at your powerband and see what revrange you want to be using, Otsuki will require a tighter rev range as you want to stay in your power band when doing uphill, adjust individual gear lengths starting from first and finishing on last gear so that when you shift from near redline you will already be well up in the powerband and won't be lugging the engine. This rule also applies to highway tuning although you will want lower final drive and can probably have a wider usable rev range as it's mostly flat 😀
I honestly think I should do a vid about this too. I've been researching hour after hour about car stuff in my past time. And because of that It has helped me well in fine tuning my fav rides in MR:T. And so far I love sharing my knowledge even though I'm not the best even ingame. @@AJIbarraGaming can u maybe tell me best gears ratio and coil best tune for godzilla gauntlet? since im farming on it , and im not doing very well times , i thought was my fault i tuned my r34 and i was going way better but still not good as other
To point out, somtimes traditional rising gears may not make the cut. Cars like the R34 have a horsepower and torque dropoff long before redlining. In the ‘34’s case, peak output is at 6500, way off from its redlining max at 8000 If a final gear were to begin near or at the horsepower peak, the gear would pull poorly; it’s sometimes better to focus on power bands than the gear ratios themselves, making them more torque lean by extending the band to include more torque. On that note, torque is tied to applied effort to spin the flywheel. Horsepower is tied to the speed the torque is applied. So in summary, the first gears (To at most three) benefit greatly from horsepower-heavy power bands for acceleration and gears beyond 4 will need more torque-lean power bands, with a horsepower-lean gear in between to compensate.
Wow, man you should be doing these tutorials lol. I explained only a rising gear method due to it's simplicity for people to grasp, but I wish I also knew this at the time. I'll try and explain this concept as well in a future video. Thanks for watching and thanks so much for the input.
Thanks for helping me out with this and making this tutorial. Though, I am still left with two questions. How do you know when a gear is too long/short? And, how do you know which RPM is a good starting point for each gear?
You can figure out if a single gear is too long if it starts at a lower RPM than the gear beforehand. You can figure out if a single gear is too short if it starts at a MUCH higher RPM than the gear beforehand, or if you only gain like 20km/h in the gear. Honestly it depends which RPM is a good starting point with each car, but make sure the starts of the gears rise as you see on the line graph.
is there any way to tune fd up to 7.9k rpm? i need 112mph topspeed at final gear ratio 5.55 1st Gear Ratio: 3.713 2nd Gear Ratio: 2.420 3rd Gear Ratio: 1.811 4th Gear Ratio: 1.438 5th Gear Ratio: 1.189 6th Gear Ratio: 1.017 7th Gear Ratio: 3.060 (how to convert that ratio to 5 speed?) additional tunes on the car car height = -20 both front and rear horizontal offset 0.8 both front and rear toe -0.5/-0.1 (front/rear) camber 1.7/1.4 dampening 108/124 they said after tuning fd with it then the car should go 202.3mph but how could i convert the gear ratios from 7 to 5 speed?

quick question , cant you make ALL the gear ratios the same? As you put 2.77 for second gear and its good not too long , cant you just make 2.77 for all the other gears?
i already learned how to tune the gears, but how do you tune the gears for a drift car? it's easy to tune them for performance but no idea for drift cars
Try and have the first/second gear(s) come up to the speed in which you want to mainly drift, and then make the latter gears a lot shorter so you can vary the gears along with your speed while you're drifting. Not exactly sure, but that's sort of what I would do!
No going lower gives more room for top speed while being higher gives more acceleration while lowering top speed but you can negate the last effect their by making your last gear lower so there is more room for top speed but you might have to make it the last 2 gears so you dont have low revs but so you also have enough room for top speed
