That was actually because for 1995 season, FIA ruled that drivers had to do partially some services themselves, drivers were not allowed to use mechanics outside the main service park. That's why Bruno Thiry lost the victory in Tour de Corse that year, as his wheel bearing gave up and he couldn't change it himself, and that was one of the saddest victory losses in WRC history. Drivers also complained that they can't relax between the stages while mechanics would fix the cars. FIA reverted to the old service rules for the next season.
@@g-motorsport_videos drivers still have to fix their own car outside of services. Esa-Pekka Lappi fixing his radiator and Ott Tänak doing all sorts of repairs on his Puma at almost every Rally comes to mind. But filling the tank with a Jerry can is a thing of the past. Now they have a fuel provider and they have their own fueling stations along the route and the co driver just says how much they take and the service provider fills the tank.

I'm from Japan and I like the WRC of this time the most.👍😍
Me too! The cars are more relatable.
yeah well nobody makes interesting cars anymore besides a select few brands, so this kind of rallying can't exist anymore. @@IcanDriveIt
Do you have a car from this era? I've always wanted to visit Japan for the drifting and rally culture. You guys really do it the best!

That scene where Colin McRae was filling his own gas tank with a jerry can was just awesome. You don´t see that anymore.
