  • A special 2 day painting workshop taught by Yohichi Nishikawa, a Senior Background Painter at Studio Ghibli. In this workshop, we import the same brushes, paper and paint used in Studio Ghibli to train the students the foundation painting exercises given to trainees to master before they can be considered to work on actual production.

on a tv program they said each background take one day to finish, but in this video it took less then one day, why they say one day? do they said that to make it hard for us to draw similar drawings?

all the backgrounds in the ghibli movies are drawn in the traditional way, you can see it most obivously in ponyo. You can clearly see the difference between the moving foreground and the drawn background! Since it is all poster colour and drawn on wet paper (plus amazing technique) the background gradiants look very clean.
