Today, we finally talk about the Gibson SG Bohemian! This was a limited edition model for the 2018 year releases that offered the standard '61 reissue sg in 5 fun colors! Blue, Green, Brown, Yellow and Red. Some of those colors are more fun an exotic than others, but other than that these are pretty standard SGs outside of the Super 74 pickups, Grover Tuners and non-tinted lacquer. Maybe not the craziest spec'd SG we've ever talked about, but the cool name and 2018 year model make it a must-have for my collection! (Fun fact, my own review prompted me to buy TWO more of these haha.)

The first 30 sec or so of the tone demo rocks. Best pickups ive ever heard.
Redefining 'noiseless' pickups haha

What good does this do to force people to mute their videos to get their video unblocked? All these artists are doing is erasing themself from history without a trace, and they're throttling the views back for the youtubers because no one wants to watch a video that got blocked and re-edited to the point where it's ruined
Dudes got over 200k$ worth of guitars for sale on his web site.. my guess is he can't afford to lose yt funds.. its lame but understandable considering he's trying to keep the best for himself (museum.. aka returement) which is fine in my books.. looking at his prices he isn't over gouging the market although you can buy an adam jones V from gibson for 19 or 20k and he's got his listed for 21/22k I believe all 50 have yet to be sold so he isn't hurting end users asking 50 for the "first available"..
That Sage Green is identical to the finish attached to a guitar built for Brian by Andrew Guyton predating 2014. He built it to spec like the Red Special, except for the finish and the installment of a stop bar in place of the floating trem bridge Brian built for his. During the Queen & Adam Lambert stage show, Brian plays that guitar specifically during "Crazy Little Thing Called Love".
Very cool SG models , love the Sage Green , Blue Sky , & the Mink Brown , they're all cool , also like the Grover tuners instead of plastic tips...and it sounds like an SG , imagine that ! Thanks Trog !!
The only mods I make on all my SG's is to relocate the strap button to the upper horn for neck dive reasons. I reckon that's why Tony Iommi does that as well
That sky blue is amazing! That translucent blue would look so good over a nicely figured wood 👍
I have this guitar in Blue Sky. My favourite guitar out of my line up of 12 (including other Gibsons, Fenders, Rickenbackers etc).
To me, the finish has a moss color and the frequent red appearance is awsum! Great axe, Austin. I'd definitely ROCK that and keep it in my guitarsenal. Thanks for sharing!
Just to point out that pickup wind count doesn't necessarily mean hotter or lower output. Output is more influenced by the inductance balanced with a low capacitance.
More winds = hotter pickup and more voltage. Other major factor is the magnet type and strength. A high resistance pup say 15k will affect tone more than output if you over/under wind the coil. Around 5-7k number of winds affects voltage aka "hotness" though. 🎸
im surprised you didnt mention it has the extended flush hell carve. I got a 2018 custom shop 61 in the double gold from a limited run of 15. also has the extended heel joint
I have one in Mink. Bought it for the color. Well reviewed as always. My opinion is that the pickups sound best with the tone rolled almost halfway off on the bridge, 1/3 of the way down on the neck. And I NEVER mess with my tone knobs, but these pickups need it.
Salutations Austin!
Beautiful SG, I have not seen that finish before, I reckon they don’t offer that finish on any production Les Paul’s too, because that would make a nice set, however, I would prefer it with fresh hardware instead of the VOS finish/prematurely aged hardware, I think it looks better and lasts longer if it is well maintained, but that is just my personal preference, and it is an easy to swap out those parts.
It sounds and looks great!
Thank you for posting these videos!
Please have an excellent and awesome day!
☀️✨🎸
Yeah, that thing is just gorgeous!! And the pups are perfect! I’d keep that in yr collection fr sure!!
I miss the 61 SG I used to have, I sold it after the headstock break suffered at a gig in Malibu!😭
Cool color. My favorite Gibson models are SG's as well.
No one can afford to look at it, even Bryan May. Makes me appreciate my Studio even more.
Fun fact: Before Brian May had custom duplicates made, he used a Les Paul Special as a Backup on tour.
Brian has used a strat, a LP and a flying V as back-ups in the past.
He never actually liked the Les Paul, it just wasn’t for him
I think that Les Paul is the one that Spike Edney used to play live in hammer to fall
The sage looks so 70's I love it.
Loved that neck and middle position!!
Beautiful finish! ❤
I just want to say, I absolutely love your videos. Nobody on this planet loves Gibson les Paul’s more than I do. My favorite one you did so far, is the one of the 20th anniversary Les Paul custom. It was absolutely gorgeous. I have one. Just mine is cream colored like Randy Rhoads and his was a 1974 also but just not an anniversary issue.
Pickups are so dynamic. Fantastic pickups
Y'know trogly, you should do a Brian May guitar. I think there have been a couple of companies that made copies of Red. I think there might even be "unofficial" (see also: unlicenced) versions in the 80s. Sounds right up your street to me!
70s my bad. The Greco ones were unlicenced.
Totally forgot they did these. Love 'em.
Evening all!! I got my 1st SG, a Standard, 2 weeks ago and I absolutely love it!!
Congrats James I've had my 1994 SG Standard since well 1994 😉 nice job on finally getting one they re awesome guitars for sure
@@jonathanhudak2059 Yeah I never cared for them until recently. I saw a few youtube videos of them and started changing my mind. I wasn't prepared for how much I was gonna like it when I got it.
James Hughes very cool. It's neat that you got more interested in SGs over time. What else were you playing prior to the SG?
I love SGs and Firebirds. Own several nice SGs and even a Guild Polara S-100... Guilds version of the SG, super cool guitar
@Jonathan Hudak I have a Jackson Kelly, four Epiphone Les Pauls- a Standard, 1960 tribute plus, the 1959 Les Paul and the Tommy Thayer electric blue spaceman Les Paul and a 2022 Gibson Les Paul Standard 60's.
@@jonathanhudak2059 I've always been a Les Paul guy cause I'm a huge KISS/Ace Frehley fan.
Fact: Bohemian also means the nationality of the Kingdom of Bohemia (now Czechia)
Have you ever documented a Dean Cadillac? If not, (and I've not seen it) I'd sure lie to see that. Maybe I'd even buy it! Carry on, & thanks Austin!!
Im not an SG fan.. or LP to be honest, i hate the neck joint, i got small hands and need a nice cut to play comfortably (ec1000 is my jam) but this is a super cool color, green is my fav color and this just looks sooo good
this cannel needs more sgs! :)
Sage green is what the Air Force called our light green uniforms prior to the brown ones worn now. I dig the guitar just based off that.
Sounds great
I was hoping for an SG wired like Sir Brian's Red Special.
I like it and it sounds nice to boot great find 👏👍🤘
Was your chroma key picking up the green tint of the guitar? That would have been interesting to find out! Thank you, Trogly!
Camera was wonky that day and not focusing well
Go on Austin! I’m enjoying watching your playing improving through the episodes. I can tell when you like the guitar it ups your game.
Digging the sound of those 74’s
I have the blue sky. Love it!
Looks like the Jewel of the Nile sitting in that case. 👍
Sorry to correct you, but I was talking about this SG with my mate Legit Stephen, just last week
What a wonderful vomit green.
Richie Kotzen should play this model this color, as “kotzen” means vomiting in German.
what is the song at 11:14? can anyone help me please.
I just love SGs. I see Trog does too
Hey, I've always looked at the SG as like a big hunk of wood, I've never held one, think I'll head down to Guitar Center and check em out. Good show Austin, take care.
The yellow one looks 70’s walnut to me on my iPad.
Funny how my SG has serious neck dive, yet I cannot remember even once thinking about the neck dive when I am performing with the SG. I suppose an SG is made for performing not standing around.
That’s a really nice green.
That's set has to be a must collect for any SG collector!
I think Austin should trade Tuesday himself out of his personal collection….
nice SG
Sweet guitar, I never understood the vos finish, why would they put something on the guitar that prevents you from cleaning it🙄 even beat guitars need cleaned
It looks kinda like silver fox 😊I want a Les Paul dc special in silver fox
Nice 👀 looking guitar... what’s the price?
Buckethead is selling his jackson kv2 you should buy it.
Nice.
Is the headstock veneer lifting off the headstock near the nut? Or was the light just catching it weirdly on the bass side. 😄
You win WOOHOO 🍪 🍪 🍪
I think you mean brushed aluminum. Unless they call it aged, Looks like good old brushed to me.
Are you 💯 sure the pickups are orig?
Super 74 should have a sticker on the back
That says Super "74" and the date below
I love that finish, very nice!!!
don't say chatoyant, don't say chatoyant, don't say chatoyant, don't....D'OH!!
I believe Bohemian has to do with living freely and willfully
You couldn’t get away from brown SG’s in late ‘60’s/ early 70’s. You’re pretty sage for a youngster.
Did youtube make you mute something?
yup, played Bohemian Rhapsody a bit too well
Bohemian Rhapsody, really sucks that queen are so greedy they block videos
all they're doing is removing themself from history by doing this
Cool, kind of reminds me of a sunken treasure
For those who don’t know, Brian May, built his own guitar, and his playing style also was very unique. He was one of the first guitar players I looked up to.
With the Burns pickups, it's a great sounding guitar.
@@CatBlackGuitars I did not know that! Interesting… all the band members met in art school, they were all very unique people in their own right, and it showed in the music. They were my childhood hero’s!
Brian did not try Fender and Gibson and then decide to build his own. He has always been up front about that he could not afford even knock offs of Fender and Gibson. He built his own guitar through necessity.
@@CatBlackGuitars interesting story though, I had every Queen album by the time I was 12 years old, played them every day, and dreamed of being a musician with their skills. What else was there to do as a kid in 70’s?!!! 🤣
Cat Black I love the story of how Brian and his father built that guitar
I have a picture of Brian May holding a Sg somewhere un my computer
Love that color!
That is a beautiful SG Trogly! Love that color!!! Nice find!
Was hoping for the iverness green special
So what you’re saying is that the finish is so thin that you can’t even polish it up because of the VOS treatment. More reasons not to pay the ridiculous price for the newer Gibson’s. As a player I just can’t justify the price of the new Fenders, Gibson’s. It sounds pretty thin as well.
when i saw the pickup move by itself i thought HAUNTED!!
Love this channel I use to watch every day but not cool when u thumbs up an comment every day an never get a response but still amazing channel
It's not often pickups make an impression on me. But having watched 100s of your videos .This guitar sounds wonderful 😮
It sounds he'lla good to me
🌳
I dig the sage.sounds good
Normally I don't like green guitars but I love this sg for sure. Being a les Paul player the neck is a little long for me. But nice guitar for sure. I just this week Inherited a All original 1959 fender stratocaster with original tolex case in tri burst with maple neck. I am going to sell it. Rare guitar
Z is for late. 18 hours late to see a magnificent SG. I’m an SG guy and this is a fine example.
Oh my might need one more SG. LOL
👍
Concur!
When will you check out a legit Brian May Guitar?
808??? BOB!!!!!
Green? Looks brown
Just flush and try again tomorrow!
no sound when you go to demo it!
Queen took the video down because they block videos, so now I know never to cover a Queen song because they'll take the video down!
I knew it. You favorite color. Blue.
Oh yeah, Brian May is famous for his SG...
Sage is awesome! I do prefer my SGs having the really thin late 70s neck
The reverb seller is not happy with you returning this guitar lol.
Did I detect a bit of Blackmore in there? A STRAT player??? 🤣🤣.Love how you keep changing things up! Bring back Silver Lady!!!
Did anyone else lose sound for the playing part?
Copyright claim
@@Trog what were you playing that got claimed?
Now i know never to support queen because they are notorious blockers

Will Brian use an SG? Brian May...
LOL!!! 😂
Not unless Gibson writes a check that they couldn’t cover…

Has Gibson done a signature Derik Trucks SG?
I believe so.
The Derek Trucks Signature SG was introduced for the 2012 model year as a recreation of Trucks' main guitar for about a decade, a 2000 '61 Reissue with the optional Maestro Vibrola, which he removed and had a stopbar tailpiece installed, while keeping the vibrola's frame and cover. He also removed the pickguard. It was reintroduced with minor changes for the 2014 model year.
Thought May and his dad made his guitar.
They did.
@@CatBlackGuitars I know that.
According to May, but what does he know, it’s not like he’s a genius…….😮
I'm sure the bumblebees are resistors. Guitar capacitors are usually round and flat and its for the tone control.
No, they are not resistors. They are capacitors. The real Bumblebees are paper in oil capacitors (these are not real Bumblebees btw).
The round and flat ones you're talking about are ceramic disc capacitors.
Rather than finishing this episode with the customary "We'll catch you tomorrow with the next one", you totally should have finished with "If I'm not back again tomorrow, carry on, carry on."
🧐
😮
Bohemian, to us Europeans it means that you are from a certain Forrested part of Germany... Still like the colour tho
I regret not buying a green guitar before my wife cut me off.
Love the color. But that’s all. It sounds like a plank.
The queen movie came out in 2018, so probably a cash grab. Put Brian’s name on it, throw a COA, add $1,000. Pray for hype!
LOVE THE RAINBOW RIFF!
Me too!
Nothing says Queen like Kill The King! :)
