I've driven both but ended up buying the Golf R. There's no denying the
RS is faster If all I cared about is speed and spend all the time on the
track. But I don't, so Golf R won hands down for me. Golf R interior
is complete luxury while RS suggest it's obvious economy heritage, DCC
when I want comfortable ride, roomier interior, bigger back seat and
cargo space, better fuel economy. Golf R over Focus RS is a no brainer
if used as daily driver.
Greenest Dreamer, absolutely, If one plan to spend alot of time on the track, get the RS, if one buying for 95% city daily commute, get the Golf R. Everybody will have different priorities, for me personally will be having the luxury and comort as daily driver, and still fast enough for occasional spirited driving on the weekends.
Luxury interior? maybe nicer interior, not luxury at all.

They're both good in different ways. The RS is more raw, and handles better. The Golf R is more sophisticated, with better interior and fuel economy. However, if you add the $799 APR tune to the R it's game over (won't void the warranty either).

good review on both cars. The only thing I hate most of POV head mount view is the movement the pan and tilt swaying left and right it my biggest pet peeves which I just can't stand in any reviews. I rather have multi view angle which give more desire depth, from inside and out view. That just me though. Everyone preference my vary.

Based on the test weights here, the Gokf R is 3075 lbs, the RS is 3527 lbs!!!!!!!!! That's crazy.

It's a shame they never put AWD in the old 2.5 litre 5 cylinder RS, that was a dream machine. The new RS styling (interior and exterior) is a complete let down for me. I'd take the Golf R over it any day.

Dsg is still plenty of fun for me, I can still shift when I want and it shifts faster.. can still downshift for engine braking as well

I have a MK6 Golf R so a little biased but I think the interior is better in the Golf. I’ll admit the Focus sounds better. As for looks I like the Golf R’s understated look more so than the Focus but I am an old guy lol

I honestly don't understand what people mean when they say the VW has a better interior... it still feels like an economy car to me. I especially don't like fake chrome or piano black plastic, to me they're both a cheap facade, so I think that's what turns me off from the Golf R (especially that big fake chrome VW badge on the wheel... if it was shaped into the leather in the center of the wheel I think it would look much better). The main thing I like about the RS is that it feels perfectly happy when you're pushing it to 10/10ths. Instead of bogging down on launch to relieve strain on the drivetrain like every Haldex AWD vehicle out there, it feels aggressive, relieving the strain on the drivetrain by letting the front wheels spin a bit (lost traction, but better than bogging down or broken components) and keep the RPMs up. As you're nearing the apex of a corner, if you get on the power early it actually helps tuck the nose in rather than causing it to run wide. I've only had it in Drift mode a couple of times out of curiosity because even in Sport mode it will *easily* kick the back end out in a tight corner.
M135i and M140I sound way better and in my opinion are cooler cars because of the engine
And they even come as standard with a RWD setup !

You stated the EU Golf R's dry weight and the US Focus RS curb weight. EU Focus RS dry weight is 1460 kg. 65 kg heavier than the Golf R, not 200.

On acceleration the focus seems to stall at 100 km/h then got back at it, before 100 km/h the focus is in front and pass 100 km/h the golf just leave him and goes it’s owned way, kinda deceiving from the focus who on paper looks like it should be in front, but in real life, it’s a whole different thing, the best exemple of saying that American HP isn’t the same has Germany HP. 👍👍

It's amusing that everyone thinks they need gobs more power than this on the street...these cars can outperform 99% of the people driving them. I've got a MK6 GTi and will be upgrading to an R soon; glad to have some extra power, but after several test drives already know I've got a large skillset to improve as a driver before I can complain about 'which is faster'...or 'manual is too slow'. I'll be going for a manual variant R for the simple reason that I enjoy rowing gears, rev matching on my own, and engine braking down long snowy/icy hills in the Colorado Rockies.

21 mpg is hardly draining. Most sold vehicle in US is trucks and suvs. V6 f150 is 14 mpg. RS uses higher octane fuel but it is not that much more.

AWD and 4x4 are not synonymous with one another. One has dedicated power going to all wheels, one has low range gearing to help get through difficult terrain or haul heavy loads.

The golf has an AWD system which leads with slip on the front axle via a Haldex coupling the excess force to the rear axle.
