Damn. That “Five Aisles of Grief” sequence (0:23-0:55) was phenomenal. I had to see it a second time to fully appreciate how flawlessly Jack executed it.
Let's see if I can sum up the moral of each short: MILK: Live a good life and be a good person, so that when you "expire" you can do so knowing you left a good impact on this world. BREAD: Impress people with your personality instead of your possessions. Just be yourself. There's nothing wrong with being plain "Wonder Bread." PAPER TOWELS: Life is chaotic and messy. That's just how it is and there's nothing you can do about it. Don't get caught up with the giant messes in life, just push forward. OATMEAL: You could follow a routine and feel comfortable having everything planned out, but life never really follows your plans and road bumps will always get in the way. Just go with the flow instead of trying to plan against it. COFFEE: Everything in moderation. You don't need the things you enjoy to survive. There's nothing wrong with enjoying a cup of coffee but don't get addicted to the caffeine. CHEESE: When faced with a tough decision, don't be afraid to believe in yourself. Life's full of decisions and even if you don't know which answer is right there's no harm in trusting your instincts. Everything's a learning experience and you're always learning from every choice.
Jack Stauber is stylistically one of the most talented and unique artists I’ve ever encountered on the internet. @@gooddealer5797 probably?? after all she got a refill to get her through the drive over to her son's school. she probably never got her caffeine addiction in check though.
This was such a great experience I like how the characters led back to the grocery list and looked like the groceries he was buying for example: Expired milk🥛: linked to the elderly woman who was seemingly close to death much like the milk. The shape of the woman’s hair is pretty similar to the top of a milk carton. artisanal bread 🍞:The guy in this short seemed very fancy much like the bread and you’ll notice his character is shaped similarly to a bag of bread (with the top of the bag being his hair). Paper towels 🧻: The shopping assistant looks similar to a roll of paper towels and even has perforations to the left side of his head. He was also cleaning up the mess once again linking him back to paper towels. Oatmeal☀️: The man in this short had a head which looks Very similar to a bowl of oatmeal, his hair being the oatmeal. The mans constant obsession with time management links nicely to Jacks focus on a boring and regimented life needing change. Coffee ☕️:The woman’s head is shaped similarly to a mug, her ear being the handle and the 3 lines of hair being steam, her erratic behaviour shows people’s dependency on coffee and a need for moderation. I like in the last short how it links back into the sample stand in a Cyclical structure and could have been used to represent the repetitive process of grocery shopping.🍦 Sorry if this was a bit long but these shorts were so brilliant and these were some of the things I noticed 💕
Notice how is hair is like the sample because he’s so indecisive about stuff just like the first episode where he can’t choose a flavor to sample until the very end
FUN FACT: It may be a coincidence, but at 0:57, the cheese is slightly shaped like the state of Wisconsin, which is known as the “Dairy State” because of how much cheese and dairy is made there.
MILK: I feel like he’s talking more about the old person at the beginning wondering what he was like before the wheelchair and oxygen tank BREAD: everyone is so obsessed with material objects and trying to fit in to the new but if you took it all away you’d be as plain as wonderbread PAPERTOWELS: life is messy with lots of problems and if you try to clean it up sometimes you’ll make a bigger mess of things but there’s no point on dwelling on it cause life goes on and you should just enjoy it OATMEAL: we get so scared of time(our lives) and how we should use it wisely and we try to do this by making a schedule but often times we can be overtaken by sticking with it that we actually end up wasting time not living our lives the one thing we set out to do COFFEE: addiction and security what am I without my addiction why should I give it up if it’s not hurting anybody? But we see with the lady that it’s hurting her child and her job and ultimately herself CHEESE: ANXIETY overthinking a decision(simple) because we lack confidence in ourselves when really if we take a step back we realize it’s not that big of a deal and if we don’t overthink it we can choose easily and be happy about our decision {These things might not be the actual meaning but it’s what they mean to me} All of these things really go back to one thing LIVE YOUR LIFE thank you Jack Stauber,
At 0:28 I wish he’d found some way to say “Than I camembert” (as a play on “Than I can bear”) instead of “Than I can see”. But still, I absolutely love this song, and it’s meaning, so thanks Jack for gifting this song to us.

This ending is....SO FUCKING AMAZING 1 THE SONG IS INCREDIBLE THE LYRICS AND THE ROOM AROUND HIM CHANGE AS HE LITERALLY GOES THROUGH THE FIVE STAGES OF GRIEF AND THEN AT THE END THEY REFERENCE ALL LAST EPISODES AND SAYS THE LESSON OF THEM IN 1-2 SENTENCES AND 2 AT THE END HE FINALLY TRIES THE SAMPLE AAAAAAAAAA
This whole series had a good point. Let me show you: In this short, it was said "every milk will expire so toss your oatmeal and eat something new". What he means is everyone will die one day, so try something new and get out of your natural habit. It also said "coffee moderation, life is messy, and your bread isnt you". He means moderate how much you consume of something a day, life will be messy so dont fight it, and you're not like the rest. (I dont know if i got that bread part right. Also people asked about the "deaf" think and idk.)
Okay, someone on the Bread episode mentioned how the people he encounters look like the things on the grocery list, and after watching the full series - it's true: Milk: The old, probably dying lady looks like a carton of milk. Bread: The guy looks like the bag of bread he grabbed. Paper towels: The dude looked like a roll of paper towels. Oatmeal: The dude looks like a bowl of oatmeal. Coffee: She looks like a steaming cup of coffee. The only place it really deviates is this one - cheese. But I think that's because at this point he realized that he's not defined by his choices. The cheese represents himself, but he realizes that unlike the others, his choices on these trivial things don't define him, so he doesn't "transform" into any of these things. And if you look back, every episode ends with him picking something else than what he first looked at. Milk was expired, so he got a new carton. Bread was too complicated of a choice, so he got the plain toast. Paper towels were too messy, so he got a washrag. Oatmeal was too plain, so he got some with "mystery flavor" to spice it up a bit. Coffee was too addictive due to caffeine, so he got decaf. Cheese... he chose nothing. He let the universe decide for him this time and ended up disappointed. You'll never be as satisfied when someone chooses for you. And onto the people: The milk lady refuses to deviate even slightly from her routine, and probably never will before she *expires*. The bread guy is obviously quite snobby, but he's still pretty polite; and he says he only gets his bread from "Ronsanto's" or something like that - so he gets actual *artisanal* bread; made by an artisan. The paper towels dude obsesses over a pretty trivial mess, something most people would just clean up and get going, but not this dude. He's probably kind of a *mess* himself. The oatmeal man is a very routinely person - to an obsessive degree. Everything is on a routine, and the moment something falls out of line he freaks out. His life's repetitive, there's no surprises or accidents allowed in his world. It's plain like a bowl of *oatmeal*. The coffee woman is clearly addicted to coffee - she mentions how she couldn't stand the coffee she got earlier, but still drank 3 cups of it because she needs the caffeine. Cheese was our main character. He wasn't shaped like a specific kind of cheese, or even any kind of cheese, because as I stated earlier, he wasn't defined by this trivial choice. He just wanted *some* cheese. This series is an analysis of behavior. How different a lot of people are. Each song represents the lives of the people he meets in the store. The last song is him realizing it doesn't matter in the long run. Just get your groceries and get on with your life. Anyway, thanks for reading.
I just realized; everything he chooses has some difference that counteracts the song. Milk- A bottle of milk that isn't expired. Pretty self-explanatory. Bread- Chooses plain Wonder (sorry, Wowza) bread, showing that good things don't have to be fancy. Paper towels- Chooses a rag instead, making less of a "mess" of the environment. Oatmeal- Mystery flavor, a change in routine. Coffee- Decaf, which (I think) is less addictive than regular coffee. Cheese- Something he chose himself, also self-explanatory. Overall, this was really good, and I love listening to it! Good work, Jack!!
It might be silly but I always re listen to this entire album during my times of grief or hardship. Somehow it really helps and makes things feel okay for awhile. Thank you Jack !
I fucking loved this series so much. I love you Jack, you wonderful human being. Always bringing something fresh, original, and creative to the table. Never change.
Hopefully AS will keep using Jack for more stuff like this in the future! I’d also love for him to have his own sketch show, but even 11 minutes an episode would be kinda demanding, and might not even be a good fit. His style is probably more effective in shorter bursts like these mini “shorts”, and like the way it’s always been. Could be wrong tho. Maybe he’ll even release a film someday that’ll blow everyone’s socks off, who knows? Also this should be released as an EP, I would not hesitate to buy it.
I love the idea of having random life shattering realizations from ordinary everyday instances. Such a pleasant concept executed beautifully, and so effortlessly.
The reoccurrence of people asking the main character if he is deaf could be a way of saying that the people themselves are def to the problems they are facing, or it could be a way of telling us that the main character is being deaf towards his own choices and the way his own mind works by just going off what everyone else says.
God I love this man. Happy I got to meet him a few months ago, stumbled into a conversation he was holding on a bench at the park near my campus. Hope to see you around again sometime man!

But in all seriousness this series was fucking amazing amd you deserve to grow more with the stuff you make omg i loved all of these, the animation the music EVERYTHING god you rock Jack!
I think this series as a whole is about the process of becoming an adult. Understanding your mortality, learning how to be okay with yourself and true to who you are, knowing that life is messy and learning to cope with it, figuring out how to live your life responsibly while still finding time to actually live, managing the things you like doing so that they don't control you and most importantly understanding the power you have to make good and bad choices (this is the most important I think because its the theme the rest of the pop opera revolves around in some way. 'You are responsible for what you take of the shelf, you are responsible for making the decision to be a good adult'. This is shown via the sensible products he picks up by the end of each video, ie the reusable towel, the mystery oatmeal, the decaf coffee, the generic bread, etc.) . These are all things a self aware young person would start thinking about, moving into the next phase of their life. The series is basically saying 'you are an adult, you're doing adult things now and with this independence comes a realization that there are things in life you need to figure out and deal with to be happy'. I really like how such a basic adult activity as shopping was used to portray the twists, turns, and pitfalls of life and adulthood as a whole. I especially think it's cool that other adults who are presumably older than the young man in the video who have already succumbed to those pitfalls and gotten lost were used to exemplify the consequences of not taking care when taking those steps into adulthood. It's a really cool series, he did a great job with it and I'm really glad it exists :D
This can’t Brie. There’s more cheese to choose than I can see. You Gouda be kidding me! I can’t make these decisions on my provalone. If I act better, could someone else select my cheddar. Are these bleus parmanent? I’ll be okay I’ll look away and let the universe say

I COULD *I COULD* I TRUST I WOULD PICK SOMETHING BETTER, BETTER, BETTER. MY CHOICE IT'S A DECISION I MAKE TO BE A GOOD GO-GETTER. EVERY MILK WILL EXPIRE SO TOSS YOUR OATMEAL AND EAT SOMETHING NEW. COFFEE MODERATION, LIFE IS MESSY AND BREAD ISN'T YOU. I know what I wanna try, strawberry please. This is amazing! Could I try the other one? No. That's alright, ah. That was good.
Love the isle goers designs and how they match the item/crisis Old lady: had her head shaped like a milk carton and is bound to expire Rich dude: literly looks like the artisanal bread he buys and is overtly materialistic Clerk: is cylindrical and even has dotted lines on him to represent thebparts that rips and cleans up the mess Time tight man: his head/ literally looks like a bowl of oatmeal and his paranoia Coffee mom: her head and hair make her head look like a mug and her dependancy on caffine to function
Despite being its own "lesson" like the previous shorts, Cheese seems to include themes from each of the others. Cheese itself teaches that you shouldn't let life, or other people, make decisions for you. It includes the themes from paper towel and oatmeal that going with the flow and not letting circumstance or routine control you is healthy but incorporates coffee by showing that everything needs to be in moderation, including going with the flow. Cheese teaches that even though dedicating your life to structure and the expected is bad, you should be an active participant in your own life.
@1:21 life is short so don't be plain in life, don't abuse yourself, accept that life isn't perfect, and your outward appearance doesn't make you, you wow, Jack. thanks for the life lessons aaand i believe the characters just see Jeff as deaf because they just don't understand him enough also noteworthy that everything he bought was not the same 'kind' as with the people he met : old vs new, artisanal vs just decent or humble, plain vs mystery flavor, fragile vs indestructible, caffeinated vs decaf not sure for the cheese tho genius lyrics in sync with the 5 stages of grief! how i wish i know the secrets behind your "baby, eyelash, cheeseburger, eggs" references though
I think he did get the cheese because it was his own choice. He doesn’t know if it tastes good or not. He let the universe choose for him. His choice makes him a good getter. The more different cheese he tries the more he knows which ones are the best. He also says to toss your oatmeal away and try something new.

@@gooddealer5797 probably?? after all she got a refill to get her through the drive over to her son's school. she probably never got her caffeine addiction in check though.
artisenal bread guy sorta left in a hurry, and he's plenty rich so i assume he probably got at least some of the antique walnuts he was looking for.
this song is actually the only way i can remember the five stages of grief, so thank you
"buff music man"

i can NOT be the only one addicted to the way he sings “saaayyyy” 0:52
This man was awakened by the things in his grocery list.
The five aisles of grief is my favourite song for sure
Me after finishing the series and wanting more: 1:51
Final note: "Agh, That was good...", but you didn't need me to tell you that...unless you're deaf.
This was such a great experience I like how the characters led back to the grocery list and looked like the groceries he was buying for example:
Expired milk🥛: linked to the elderly woman who was seemingly close to death much like the milk.
I like in the last short how it links back into the sample stand in a Cyclical structure and could have been used to represent the repetitive process of grocery shopping.🍦
Sorry if this was a bit long but these shorts were so brilliant and these were some of the things I noticed 💕
Very insightful!! I never even thoight about this/noticed it!
you could also say that the swirl of his hair is somewhat reminiscent of the swirl on the sample cups
PenguinLotion522 oh yeah! It does :)
Notice how is hair is like the sample because he’s so indecisive about stuff just like the first episode where he can’t choose a flavor to sample until the very end
I think he was the cheese character
At this rate the customers are going crazy and gonna burn the whole damn store down.
This doesn't feel like created by someone on dose, but rather undergoing serious sleep deprivation
FUN FACT: It may be a coincidence, but at 0:57, the cheese is slightly shaped like the state of Wisconsin, which is known as the “Dairy State” because of how much cheese and dairy is made there.
Wow! Awesome job on all of these, love how they all relate to one another
his vibrato near "and let the universe say" is actually insane
I loved this series thank you Adult swim and Jack stauber
Mr. Boi 하이~
Mr. Boi 오 감사합니당
Jack while writing the intro: “ how many cheese puns can I fit in this”
I learned so much about life today
MILK: I feel like he’s talking more about the old person at the beginning wondering what he was like before the wheelchair and oxygen tank
BREAD: everyone is so obsessed with material objects and trying to fit in to the new but if you took it all away you’d be as plain as wonderbread
PAPERTOWELS: life is messy with lots of problems and if you try to clean it up sometimes you’ll make a bigger mess of things but there’s no point on dwelling on it cause life goes on and you should just enjoy it
OATMEAL: we get so scared of time(our lives) and how we should use it wisely and we try to do this by making a schedule but often times we can be overtaken by sticking with it that we actually end up wasting time not living our lives the one thing we set out to do
COFFEE: addiction and security what am I without my addiction why should I give it up if it’s not hurting anybody? But we see with the lady that it’s hurting her child and her job and ultimately herself
CHEESE: ANXIETY overthinking a decision(simple) because we lack confidence in ourselves when really if we take a step back we realize it’s not that big of a deal and if we don’t overthink it we can choose easily and be happy about our decision
{These things might not be the actual meaning but it’s what they mean to me}
All of these things really go back to one thing LIVE YOUR LIFE thank you Jack Stauber,
this ending made what was just a cute little series into something actually really great. Good job, jack.
When he said “Are these blues permanent” I felt that (0:45)
the way he says is just amazing
Man I can't believe such a punny song could be so *Gouda.*
Please stop the puns, I Camembert them.
At 0:28 I wish he’d found some way to say “Than I camembert” (as a play on “Than I can bear”) instead of “Than I can see”.
But still, I absolutely love this song, and it’s meaning, so thanks Jack for gifting this song to us.
Basically, he reviewed all the lessons that he learned
More like he has an epiphany at the end.
"I could have picked something better than that."

*_gasp_*
How does jack stauber turn shopping into a song about self acceptance my wig is SNATCHED
Jeff’s hair kinda looks like the frozen yoghurt.
only jack could explain the 5 stages of grief with cheese puns
YES! It was so much fun tuning in everyday to see a little bit of Jack's awesome style. I hope that AS keeps supporting Jack Stauber and that Jack keeps making the amazing works he always has
Im so glad Jack Stauber was able the get his lovely work seen by more through Adult Swim. He's an amazing artist! ♡
The little “ooh-ooh-ooh” at 1:12 reminds me of “bothersome” off of pop food
Let me show you:
In this short, it was said "every milk will expire so toss your oatmeal and eat something new".
I feel the Bread part means that your lifestyle shouldn’t represent you, or that you can’t base your personality off of one specific thing
The bread part, based on the bread song, is probably referring to the fact that you are not what you own
Okay, someone on the Bread episode mentioned how the people he encounters look like the things on the grocery list, and after watching the full series - it's true:
Milk: The old, probably dying lady looks like a carton of milk.
And onto the people:
The milk lady refuses to deviate even slightly from her routine, and probably never will before she *expires*.
My only complaint is that it ended. I’ll be watching this over and over, pouring over theories.
Wait, I just realized everyone he met has the head of what he’s buying
I like the red tint when he says “you Gouda be kidding me” and the blue tint when he says “are these blues permanent”
Decisions. The bane of existence.
It might be silly but I always re listen to this entire album during my times of grief or hardship. Somehow it really helps and makes things feel okay for awhile. Thank you Jack !
The character development packed into these shorts are phenomenal!
He went through give stages of grief just from thinking about which type of cheese to get
Idk why but all of jacks stuff always leave me smiling 😊
I can't believe this is on UA-cam for free. What a time to be alive
I fucking loved this series so much. I love you Jack, you wonderful human being. Always bringing something fresh, original, and creative to the table. Never change.
I think I learned something. I'm not quite sure yet what but that was good
the best way to learn, is when you learn without realizing it
i love that as he goes through the five aisles of grief he portrays them all. deep but comedic. outstanding.
This was the only episode of anything adult swim I've seen in 5 years when I decided to turn the TV in at 4am. This was great.
Bro walked in with a 6 item list and walked out with 6 items and a life lesson.
Also this should be released as an EP, I would not hesitate to buy it.
hes a massive film buff so Im sure its on his list
I love the idea of having random life shattering realizations from ordinary everyday instances. Such a pleasant concept executed beautifully, and so effortlessly.
I didn’t think I’d learn a lot of lessons from a mini series about getting groceries
Jack is a work of art
The reoccurrence of people asking the main character if he is deaf could be a way of saying that the people themselves are def to the problems they are facing, or it could be a way of telling us that the main character is being deaf towards his own choices and the way his own mind works by just going off what everyone else says.
0:34 *WOW* that sounded amazing.
God I love this man. Happy I got to meet him a few months ago, stumbled into a conversation he was holding on a bench at the park near my campus. Hope to see you around again sometime man!
DENIAL: This can’t Brie, there’s more cheese to choose than I can see
WRATH: You Gouda be kidding me, I can’t do this on my Provolone
BARGAINING: If I act better, will someone else select my cheddar
DEPRESSION: Are these Bleu's permanent
ACCEPTANCE: I’ll be okay, I’ll look away and let the universe say...
But in all seriousness this series was fucking amazing amd you deserve to grow more with the stuff you make omg i loved all of these, the animation the music EVERYTHING god you rock Jack!
Jack Stauber is the rebirth of David. Bowie.
Convince me otherwise,
ThePremiumSucc finally, someone says it.
You Gouda be
kidding me!
I can’t make these decisions on my provalone.
If I act better,
could someone else select my cheddar.
Are these bleus parmanent?
I’ll be okay
I’ll look away
and let the universe say
It's hard to put into words how this last one crescendoed into uplifting realizations about life summarizing the take away of every short in just 30 seconds.
Aww I really loved this series, it actually Taught me a few things and I appreciate that.
The signs behind him say
Denial
Anger
Bargaining
And depression.
Jack you know most of everyone’s emotions, we will always love what you do.❤️
I’ve been feeling like this lately, or sucks tbh.
But this music just, hits so well and good I can’t explain it.
I’m in love with his art style
I got attached to this character
My favorite short series tbh jack u are one awesome dood ur art is always changing whether it be 2d, claymation or the new 3D cgi thing u did in help it’s always oddly charming
If this many people talked to me during a grocery store trip I'd be pissed.
1:01
This is about the most emotion he has shown throughout the whole series
"I'll look away and let the universe saaaaayy..."
"Dairy-free maple coconut water cheese."
SHOP
Last thing on the list is cheese. Just cheese. That shouldn't be hard at all. *ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah*
*AND NOW: A DARK WALK THROUGH THE FIVE AISLES OF GRIEF*
THIS CAN'T BRIE. THERE'S MORE CHEESE TO CHOOSE THAN I CAN SEE. YOU GOUDA BEEN KIDDING ME, I CAN'T MAKE THESE DECISIONS ON MY PROVOLONE. IF I ACT BETTER, COULD SOMEONE ELSE SELECT MY CHEDDAR? ARE THESE BLEUS PARMANENT? I'LL BE OKAY, I'LL LOOK AWAY AND LET THE UNIVERSE SAY.
Dairy free maple coconut water cheese. I could have picked something better than that.
This felt kind of cheesy.
ah, yes, the intelligent ones always get the subtext.
in my opinion, this episode was very gouda. but eh, we have different opinions.
I could have thought of a cheddar pun that that
I want to lactoss myself off a bridge
Leave my taste in music provolone!
Thank you so much for single handedly mouldings my interest in music by your insanely gorgeous creations
just in case you want the cheese song straight away 0:23 🌴
Love the isle goers designs and how they match the item/crisis
Old lady: had her head shaped like a milk carton and is bound to expire
Rich dude: literly looks like the artisanal bread he buys and is overtly materialistic
Clerk: is cylindrical and even has dotted lines on him to represent thebparts that rips and cleans up the mess
Time tight man: his head/ literally looks like a bowl of oatmeal and his paranoia
Coffee mom: her head and hair make her head look like a mug and her dependancy on caffine to function
Cheese teaches that even though dedicating your life to structure and the expected is bad, you should be an active participant in your own life.
this was an awesome little series! i love every episode. thanks, mr. stauber.
Jack can Adopt me fr fr
@1:21 life is short so don't be plain in life, don't abuse yourself, accept that life isn't perfect, and your outward appearance doesn't make you, you
wow, Jack. thanks for the life lessons
aaand i believe the characters just see Jeff as deaf because they just don't understand him enough
also noteworthy that everything he bought was not the same 'kind' as with the people he met : old vs new, artisanal vs just decent or humble, plain vs mystery flavor, fragile vs indestructible, caffeinated vs decaf
not sure for the cheese tho
genius lyrics in sync with the 5 stages of grief! how i wish i know the secrets behind your "baby, eyelash, cheeseburger, eggs" references though
**Anime grunt at the beginning**
*UH*
>:0
i feel like this really captured the stages of grief within the chords and the lyrics and even though it’s about cheese it really made me tear up
but... but he didnt get his cheese...
He don't need no cheese
He must of chose to not get any
I think he probably selected a more palatable cheese on his own
I think he did get the cheese because it was his own choice. He doesn’t know if it tastes good or not. He let the universe choose for him. His choice makes him a good getter. The more different cheese he tries the more he knows which ones are the best. He also says to toss your oatmeal away and try something new.
Why did “your bread isn’t you” hit so hard for me?
