I think this is great! Many people who mostly camp with electric hookup don’t need 100ah but offering them a LFP option which has less risk of going bad if it gets to 0% is an amazing option for those people. Furthermore, repurposing batteries is great for the environment. They give additional 3-5 years (maybe more) of life rather then going to a dumpster. The only think they need to do is to clarify these are repurposed cells - otherwise, it’s a great option for many people at a great price.

    • @ARLGD
      @ARLGD 9 місяців тому

I completely agree with your comment! Offering a LFP option for those who mostly camp with electric hookup is a fantastic idea. It not only provides a safer option but also helps in repurposing batteries, which is great for the environment. And regarding the Segway Portable PowerStation Cube Series, it seems like a reliable and powerful backup power solution with its massive capacity, fast recharging, and comprehensive protections. Definitely worth considering for outdoor enthusiasts and RV lovers.

    Dear Gary,
    Thanks for your reply.
The battery case is the public moulds on the market.
So there is some extra open space unused space inside the battery.
If we use the dedicated moulds for this battery, which means we need to open a new mold. The cost will be very high.

That would be something for a UPS system. Just lot capacity, not many cycles, size and vibration quality doesn't matter. Build to leads and hookup any regular old UPS and have massive more reserve for the price of a lead battery. Most UPS do like 2-3 cycles a year.

I have done Lifepo4 conversion in my apc br1000g in and it is phenomenal. I used discounted old cells 16 of them cost me 50$ they were cheap cus they were manufactured in 2019 and i bought them in 2022. , The tested capacity of the whole pack was 12amp hr which is correct rated capacity for those 32700 6000mah cells. I used 300w resistive load on my ups and it ran the load for 45mins that is similar runtime to having 27ah lead acid 24v batteries on my ups. So which would total well over 3 times the money i spend on these Lifepo4 cells. My ups charges them to 29v and then goes into absorption at 27v. I did not use a bms , i am only using a cell balancer cus the ups is handling the charge and discharge voltage. And i do not want the bms to suddenly disconnect the pack from the ups if that happens the ups will not power back on automatically when the mains is restored and the ups terminates at 21v anyways so there is no need for a bms and waste energy on heating those mosfets just use an active Lifepo4 8s balancer. There is no issues with charge current, my ups charges the 9ah lead acid pack at exactly 1.25amps or the 27ah lead acid pack at 3.75amps , i have set mine to do it at 3.75amps cus my battery pack can easily handle 6amps of charge current. The run time is phenomenal i can game on my pc for 40mins without any worries or do my work for well over an hour as my pc consume just about 150w at idle. There is one issue that u have to keep in mind. If your ups uses low frequency inverter then u should keep in mind that the models are designed to save money and they save money on the transformer size , u can not run at even 50% load for longer than rated run time , i have blown the transformers internal thermal overload fuse on my dads ups which has the cheaper style low frequency inverter using a large transformer even though that model is rated for 660w the transformer in it is half the size of the transformer apc was using in their 300w ups from 2004. I was running that ups to see how hot it gets and at 600w load the transformer got to 80c before blowing the fuse , it ran for 4mins on that load which is 4 times longer than what apc claims as run time on similar load with original apc batteries 😂. So in my opinion avoid ups with low frequency inverter only get the ones that use smps style inverter those are much more efficient and can run longer at near full load condition without blowing up. Or if u have no other option then keep the battery capacity low. If the original ups came with 7ah 12v battery using 6ah Lifepo4 is like having 14ah lead acid. So do not run for long time with more than 50% load in that case , also keep in mind to purchase cells that can handle the maximum power draw. A 600w ups can pull near 30amps on 24v battery and so u should keep the Lifepo4 capacity at half of that. So that the maximum load on the cells can not exceed 3c discharge.

@@aerobiotic most UPS with a AGM battery should be very close to a LFP battery cycle. They might not charge very fast or even all the way full. My APC units float at around 13.6V depending on the model. Further you should not try that with UPS at full capacity. They don't have the thermal. I got for instance 650w UPS and I'm using it for router and other things - which draws less then 70w. Never getting warm.

@@aerobiotic The BMS is your charge controller. You can just input any constant voltage. A dedicated Lithium charger is not really required, but I would use one because the BMS used in these cheap batteries are typically Chinese junk that can't be relied on in an enclosed space like your RV or car.

BattleBorn and SOK are in the same tier, in my opinion, however, they cost a lot more compared to EG4's.

I can see a place for this in older used RV's that have limited service life left, consider that a typical modern lower end travel trailer only have about a 15 year service life before they tend to end up in a scrap yard, and I can certainly see a place for these replacing the first or second set of lead acid batteries at the 5-10 year mark in the service life.

No thanks. The big problem with these kinds of things is the large amount of people that just search for a product on Amazon and order it not having any clue they're buying. Maybe they need to market it as "refurbished" with 95/120Ah life remaining.

As far a bad internal mounting and securing the cells in place, I think that the lid (that you removed) would hold the cells down inside the case. Foam was a deep-ish pocket, so it should stay put. Those top foam pads on the lid were touching the tops of the cells ... I recall the tested capacity sticker was stuck to them. Anyway, looking forward to the capacity test.

My guess would be this battery is going to be marketed in Africa and Asia for rural people and for back-up power and lighting systems in the cities. It's rather brilliant, IMHO. The bigger ABS plastic box and foam chunks don't add much cost for the manufacturer but make it close to the same size as a typical "4D" lead acid battery with around a 100Ah capacity rating, BUT much lighter and WAY better because of the LiFePO4 advantages of cycle life and tolerances of deep discharge, etc. At that price, they will be price competitive with cheap Chinese AGM, and even the grade B or used LiFePO4 cells will perform better and last longer than a lead-acid battery that sits at 30 to 40 degC most days. They will also be easier to ship because they all have built-in protective packaging so they don't need extra foam or wooden crates to ship individually.
Thanks for all your great videos!

But immediately after that the charging current was regulated to 370w and gradually dropped as the battery approached 13.6v (the preset voltage of my RV converter, non-adjustable). So it worked, sorta --- just never deplete the battery to 10.1v and it should be good (the 1kw current did trip my 12v breaker). And remember your lead-acid charger will not charge this thing full.

It does appear to be marketed towards Rv's. Many RV operators are on a tight budget, the battery case is actually perfect because many are already set up to hold that battery size so its just a matter of sliding it in and replacing the old. So, compared to a traditional lead acid deep cycle battery many older RV's have this very well may be a good battery. If it holds up which as you say is an unknown. With my old setup all I ran was lights, Tv and water pump the 50 amp BMS is just fine.

I've been interested in this (price $270 free shipping) TimeUSB offering on Amazon for several months. I have a 25ft motorhome with one agm battery and 215-Watt solar panel which will be joined to another 200-watt panel soon. Will: "It may outlast a lead acid." I like that idea. Except for the extreme size, this, I think would be a good addition to have. I like the idea of the 50 amp BMS to not overload the alternator while charging. I read on Amazon that one customer received a bad battery and the company responded very well in replacing it in a timely matter. I'm waiting anxiously for the test results from Will.

on the amazon site you see they also sell a 100 Ah battery for $70 more and it has a 5 yr warranty.. apparently the 95Ah has no warranty or 90 days.. also something funny when asked about if the cell are new or why they are using 80% capacity cells in the 95Ah batter they go around answering the question with stuff like..
"The Timeusb 95Ah battery that born for RV with UL/FCC/CE/ROHS certificated. and each battery cells from us are ensured with 100% strict
    inspection and they are qualified."
what does "they are qualified" even mean.. LOL.. other words they have no clue are don't are wont say..

Battery longevity and variance of quality at manufacture is still such a mystery to us and probably even to manufacturers to an extent. They are learning, I guess. I salvaged some batteries from a well-used 20 year old laptop. Six lithium ion cylindricals 18650s and after 20 years and nearly as many that they have been zilched by my laptop. Five of the 6 are corroded and utterly unuseaable and one is now powering a converted 2 D cell flashlight and drawing nearly new capacity. Go figure.

Looking at the Docan Power website their return policy whether their batteries are faulty upon testing or damaged in transit that the BUYER has to pay full return cost, which is very surprising. For me, despite them having EU stock being in the UK, that cost would be outrageous to return if there were any problems. Making buying from them impossible. Which is a shame as I really like your recommendations. The going rate in the UK for these cells (280ah 3.2v) is £180 each, where Docan Power is $149 (£126) each including delivery. Quite a difference. If you could recommend a UK seller at a more reasonable price I think we here in the UK would clear their shelves. Thanks for your content.

My guess for the origin of the apparently recycled CATL cells used in this battery is tow motors used in Chinese warehouses. It is pretty interesting that the battery assembler chose to use a battery management system rated at less than 1/2 (of the remaining) C of the cells.

I might not have a problem with this battery if the manufacturer disclosed the cells are recycled. A purchaser naively expecting new cells is probably only going to receive half the discharge cycles anticipated. Paying $50 to $100 US more and getting a new cells is a better deal compared to having to purchase two of these batteries to get the same service life.

My guess on the size of the case is either: (a) they got a great deal on that size case, (b) it's easier/cheaper for them in production to maintain all the same supply of parts to build their various capacity batteries.
My only beef with these batteries is that they should disclose WHY these are "grade B" cells. Used or just poor post-production performance "rejects"? It can make a difference depending on the application someone wishes to use them for.
