Maybe in Texas, with a different coach, things could have turned out differently. Fisher's career after Vince Young showed absolutely no signs of him being capable of developing or finding a QB. Plus, whilst Williams was the pragmatic choice, the Texans never found a franchise QB. If Watson can stay healthy, they might finally have one, 11-years later. Their defense hasn't lacked for pass rusher since Williams moved on. As a Redskins fan I have a soft spot for Casserly but every draft I think about the decision he made taking Williams. He got a lot of stick at the time. Now he gets credit for avoiding the hype and finding the best player available. But making the pragmatic choice ultimately didn't help the Texans become a perennial contender. They were always held back by their QB. Even if Young never developed as pocket passer, I suspect the Texans would have been a better team than they were with Williams, if they could have just kept Young's head straight. Maybe staying in Texas would have made things worse for Young. However, I have a nagging suspicion that making the correct pick in that draft actually meant the Texans side-stepped a decade with a QB that could win games rather than just cost them. One perhaps not too different to the one they have all their hopes pinned on now.

I personally believe Jeff Fisher ran his career into the dirt. However he still really needed to put in more effort. I really had no idea that Mario Williams had such a great career. I don't know why I had forgotten about him? He was dominant for several of the years he played, and in a couple of those years, he was an absolute BEAST!
Man I knew all of those usc guys were going to be busts! I thought the only one that had a chance of being good was LenDale White and he wasn't even that good.
Defensive End is the safest position to draft for most teams if he's just a straight-up DE. DE/OLB hybrids are probably one of the toughest positions to draft because college playbooks are so different.
