The seventy 80 speaker is more open sounding with better higher mids and high end which is what marshall's have always been about. With a little breaking in that speaker will sound nice when it tames some of the high's. I just turn down the treble slightly on mine and it works fine.
What i love about this amp is that the controls are very touch sensitive and very tweakable.
The seventy 80 is a very well balanced speaker in all the frequencies, it's neutral sounding and very underrated.. IMO it better represents the marshall tone.
Nice demo by the way mate !

Ted Apollo L. u hit the nail on the head bud. the 70 80 is an amazing speaker somehow once broken in

The 70/80 is garbage. You think they sound okay until you pull that amp away from the wall. If you had to plan a club somewhere where the amps not near a wall. It sounds like shit! What you need to put in there is a Eminence CV-75. The Private Jack is for a Plexi. He also needs to do the c-19 modification to the amp.

@@electricritual4197no wall here. Just be a man and turn up to ten. 😆 my favorite Marshall combo speaker is the g12t75. tightua-cam.com/video/GvqQXqyhcrI/v-deo.html

I bought a Private Jack when Eminence rolled out the Redcoat line. I love it. I don't get the comments some have made about it being muddy. My experience has been that it's very articulate and warm. I guess anything can sound muddy, depending on how you eq stuff. My speaker is in an Earcandy Sovereign ported cab. Celestions are cool too.

This is a Marshall. 70/80 wins hands down.

This is weird but it's my honest opinion: I thought the cleans sounded better with the Private Jack but the Seventy 80 had a better distorted tone.

70/80 is a strange speaker it can and usually sounds cheap and tinny. When I wired up my nephews Line6 150 watt spider 3 amp as a 2x12 extension cabinet with it’s 8 ohm 70/80 speakers. It actually went in the opposite direction of being low end and dark when driving it with my Vox AC4

on cleans, the PJ was nicer, but i guess the 70/80 would be more modeler-friendly as it seems broader and more balanced. on dirty, they both sounded bad - one too harsh, one too muffled. :/

I like seventy 80 better....I just bought a dsl 40c.....I've seen alot of videos with guys changing out the seventy 80....as an upgrade. I don't think so.....the only other speaker I heard demoed that I liked was the celestion greenback.....that one was ok...
I don't think I will be changing speakers

    that's a nice improvement . I put a WGS invader 50 in mine . the 80/70 isn't bad but I didn't care much for it in the dsl 40

Replace the speaker baffle with a 3/4 inch thick Birch speaker baffle ! ! Marshall uses some kind of compressed cardboard or compressed wood, it is very cheap and thin in the DSL40 and DSL15 ! ! I did this to my DSL 15 and it was a night and day difference with the same speaker, I built a 1x12 ext cab because the combo sounded like crap, now I have zero issues gigging with the combo after the baffle change !

Baffle board should be thin so it will better resonate.

The only cab or amp I have ever liked the Celestion Seventy 80 is in my Depth Charge cab from Schecter which has an active sub in it. That says it all, it lacks low end, big time.

Before I swapped in the Private Jack, I'd play this amp live with the treble and presence turned all the way off.

6:20 sounds like a gain boost on Private Jack. 💥

For that amp - the stock sounds better - if you don't want the brittle tone - get another amp - not a fan of modern marshalls as they are so metal toned and fizzy - much prefer the vintage marshalls or even a class 5 - or better yet a fender Supersonic 😃
    Thanks for the demo.

1x12 cabs and combos seem to favour more highs in speakers of some reason. Because of this the Seventy 80 fared better despite it being quite budgetary compared to the Emi. My guess is that the Legend GB 12 dishing up some clearer highs would have cut it better this context, the Private Jack sounding almost V30-ish here.

Holy Molly, lead 2 and gain @ 7.

  • @thomaschilds8781

For me the 70/80 sounded best, save for the Lead 2 clip. I have a DSL40C, still with stock speaker. The I hate the harsh fizziness, but don't wan't to sacrifice articulate clarity at high frequencies. So far, to my ears, greenback sounds best (but too low power rating). G12M-65 is too muddy, and I'm afraid Private Jack sounded similar.

To be honest everthing with the Eminence sound like it was in a box. Not bad, but just had this sort of in a box sound. Tamed the highs for sure, but I'm not liking it better. I'll continue looking for another speaker.

Private Jack is mid focused, and the first thing that comes to mind with smooth mids is shredd, Malmsteen, Via, Tipton, etc. Probably not suited to this honestly.

The 70-80 is waaaay better- the eminenvce has that blanket over speaker tone- muddy, weak - Celestion cuts through especuially with gain!

  • @electricritual4197

None of the Eminence Speakers sound like they were broke in. It sounded like you just pulled them out of the box. Put them in the amp and recorded them you have to break these things in. It almost sounds like you put the mic in the back of the amp.

When I shot this video the Eminence had been in the amp for over a year and used for something around 50 gigs.
