  • It's always a highlight of our year, getting to walk around the Cartier booth at Watches & Wonders, taking a look at the brand's curiously shaped watches. We have covered the brand's full release list already, and even given our own thoughts on them too. But we wanted to get the inside track from the man who probably knows more about them and their backstory than anyone else. Pierre Rainero, Cartier's Image, Style, and Heritage Director has worked at the company for two decades and is perfectly placed to tell us the back stories on these new releases.

Cartier continues to astonish with their releases. Would love to own both the Tortue and Santos-Dumont....stunning

    That burgundy dial is gorgeous.

I'm not sure I understand the need to reverse the movement, but that dial is just stunning. That silver works so well against the deep red. Wow.

Its a Santos, Brazil is in the southern hemisphere. Its easy to understand why they did it.

Answer: Charging over $9,000 for a stainless steel GMT with a Sellita movement.

I love my Santos de Cartier, but I agree charging such prices for these new releases with Selita movements is bonkers.

People seem to obsess over in house movements. A well made and easy to service Selita is a good idea. Do we worry Lamborghini shares parts with rest of VW group? We are already paying over 10k for stainless steel watches. Lunatics already running the asylum. The difference in finishing requires a loop to be seen when comparing watches at 2k versus 10k. So the parts I can't see…reliable accurate and cheap to service is all you need, unless an open backed case.

The reverse dial is just annoying, and the dual time looks nigh well unusable.

No point getting annoyed at a watch you won’t be getting anyway
