Baguazhang is also called Ba Gua Zhang, Pa Kua Chang, or just simply Bagua. Bagua is my favorite internal fighting system of Chinese Kung Fu. Ba Gua Zhang has ancient roots in Taoism and is the Martial Arts representation of the Taoist Philosophy! This is Section 1 of the Fundamental Ba Gua Zhang Form I teach to my Intermediate Students when they reach 1st Degree Black Belt. You can learn more Bagua or Pakua by joining my Online School at www.JakeMace.com (go to the Ba Gua Zhang Playlist or Black Belt Playlist). Please "LIKE", "Subscribe", and SHARE!
Jake the way I was taught is Hsing Yi is straight line energy and is the first art taught because it's closest to an external training art. Pa Kua is circular energy and is taught second because it's harder to learn and the concept of circular energy and the type of body connections are harder to learn. Tai chi is taught last because it contains both circular and straight line energy. Each one of these arts can be a stand alone art but through time people have combined them in this manner.
Hi Jake, love what your doing, I started training in 71, had a drunk driver hit me from behind at 60 miles an hour, I’ve been with extreme pain for very long time, but I’ve never stopped, I’ve even taught a class lying on my back, better now however, starting to do forms again, but only internal....the easiest for now...I trained lu he bat fat, ying Yee, and little tai chi for there signature techniques....just wanted to say it’s really cool to watch your videos, being disabled is horrible, the way they treat people is really bad..plus the money they give allows me one meal a day....but it’s videos like this that keeps my spirits up, thank you sir, and ill keep watching what ever you show.😇
great instruction! it looks like a challenging martial arts form that i will have fun learning. (and its only part 1!) thank you for devoting your time to educate those who are looking to learn.
I only just watched 'the grandmaster' movie which featured the Baguazhang form at the end of the movie, I remember thinking how amazing it would be if I could learn it. Amazing timing for this video. Thank You✌
Vince Black first learned his Pa Kua from Michael Brown. I know this because Michael is my teacher now going on forty years. Vince came to mike back in the 70's. Ask him. He also learned Hsing Yi Chuan from Mike. And a bunch of other kung fu. Peace.
+Kung Fu & Tai Chi Center w/ Jake Mace thats awesome! I might consider joining your school i need extra training do you teach seven star and praying mantis?
As a Kung Fun practitioner, what is your opinion on the modern consensus that crossing your legs (a prevent feature in Bagua and many Kung Fu styles) is a something you should never do in combat as its easy to off balance someone cross-stepping along some other reasons
+krulty Are you referring to the term " eating the horse? " Where you essentially ' eat ' ( occupy ) your opponent's stance and legs with your own? I'm just trying to get a better understanding of what you mean.
We definitly can cross our legs in a fight. You just cannot use it as a stance or to move slowly if not u may be caught off guard by somebody fast. You can use it to set up a kick or a throw. But it s risky and have to be very explosive. Sorry for my bad english not my main language. I allowed myself to reply you cause i practise vietnamese kung fu for 17 years, boxing for 10 years, and judo for 3 years Hope it help
Chema V. Dude if ur on this video u likely have zero experience or anything related to this martial art ur probably just mad because ur mum started to make u pay rent to stay a sad sack in her basement being an ass hole

Tung Hai-ch’uan (originator of Pa-Kua) and Kuo Yun-shen (originator of hsing-I) 1700s and 1800s required there students to learn both systems. The two were life long friends and linked the systems. From that time who knows what changes have been made? Consider 3 things. 1 the boxer rebellion. What was lost or changed there? 2 what did the students of those masters change? (Like Bruce Lee did with his Tao of jeet kin do) 3 what documentation does anybody have going all the way back to the original masters? From what I have watched from various Pa-kua and hsing-I masters there is always some of the other style mixed into there’s. Like everybody knows tai-chi came from Kung-fu so you can a lot of shaolin in tai- chi.
I have the documentation you ask for. Not everyone does. My Hsing Yi Ch'uan came from the Hong brothers on Taiwan. And we are descended from Kou Yun-shen. And you are correct a great deal of evolution has occurred in the Wu Tang systems since their Golden Age some 250 years ago. You are unfortunately incorrect in stating that Kou was the originator of Hsing Yi. My own lineage goes back over two hundred years before Kou was born. But truly speaking how I wish I had studied with Jake. That boy knows everything. O.K. O.K. April Fool's, that is, Jake is fraud!! With a million gullible followers on UA-cam. But hey, you gotta start somewhere. Good luck in your endeavors. Keep practice. Overcome the darkness. Return the Light. (By the way. Tai Chi Ch'uan did not come from Kung-Fu. Kung -fu means a skill, difficult to obtain, which requires hard work and great effort to develop.) Peace.
Wrong! T'ai Chi, Ba gua and Hsing-I are not chains to the ultimate. Think of T'ai Chi, Ba Gua or Hsing-I as independent routes to the ultimate. It is considered by the Classics that those who subscribe to the "chain" system of progression will never reach the ultimate.
By no means this is intermediate. those stances, the stance, the arm movements and the ability to maintain the center. This takes at least 1 year of intense daily training.
Go see Adam Mizner. Good luck. Check out his videos at Heaven Man Earth. What you will see is real. Real high level kung-fu. Not easy to get there. Start Dan Tien breathing now. Also known as Baby Breathing.
Lol well at least you got some idea of what you doing. But seriously get a real teacher and stop trying copy my Sifu. You clearly see his videos and try to do bagua lol

Which form of Baguazhang do you train in? Who is your Sifu and which lineage does he represent?
Allen Martinez Good question. I would like to know as well.
I train in Sun Tajiquan which encompasses Xingyi and Bagua. I have asked the same question on his Xingyi videos. He has never answered.
