- Diamonds In The Rough was originally released on CD in 2008 as part of the DVD+CD release “Live in the LBC/Diamonds in the Rough”. It is a compilation of b-sides recorded during the making of the band’s self-titled 2007 debut, rarities, covers and other non-album tracks. The 2020 vinyl and digital release of the album has been remastered and is expanded by 5 tracks, featuring the unreleased track “Set Me Free” (recorded during the “Hail To The King” sessions). It also includes other hard-to-find tracks such as the fan-favorite “St, James”, “4AM” and “Lost It All”. The 16 track album also includes the band’s cover of Black Sabbath’s “Paranoid”, which originally came out in 2009 on the Warner Bros album “Covered”. The vinyl is released on limited edition clear vinyl.

I was about 13 when I fell in love with Avenged Sevenfold, and now I'm 26 going on 27 and they're still my favorite band. Sometimes I forget how much of a fangirl I use to be until I catch myself listening to their music singing every single lyric.

It does. Most of these diamonds in the rough songs are genius creation. Fuck knows why they weren’t released. Maybe they were doubting themselves, maybe it was out of their control?

Yeah I agree, chorus, the build up, and guitar solo are top notch, But the intro has no hook at all, that's probably why they put this on B side.
the band mentioned there was one song off of self-titled and diamonds and the rough that the band really liked but didn't really fit the vibe of the album. This was most definitely the song they were talking about. it's in an interview somewhere on youtube

Christian Stober Yeah man. This is probably A7X near their best. I think City of Evil and their self titled was their prime. This track came out between those album releases, so it makes sense.

Most of the songs on Diamonds in the Rough weren't quite ready for album release and it shows. Songs like Crossroads, while having some very solid ideas and being not all that bad, don't quite feel finished>
Except this one. This song is fucking fire. Why this got passed over for the album release I'll never know.
I don't know if it's because I'm so used to the actual self-titled but when you listen an album you notice all the songs have at least one thing in common that makes you connect them in your mind. I love this song too but I feel it wouldn't have fit in the self titled
Having listened the whole A7x discography a thousand times I think this song sounds more city of evil or nightmare themed (or even the stage), the solos remind me of the stage and city of evil, the chorus city of evil and the after-solo reminds me of nightmare (more exactly buried alive)
I also feel like Demons would totally have its spot in City of Evil
I wonder if this was going to be part of the Halloween ep that got scrapped. A little piece of heaven was supposed to be on it too.

This song just flows so well. I love the upped presence of the bass and the guitars sound so much more active. Shadows is at the top of his game and The Rev never disappoints.

This album was created after Self Tittled. They released it as a package with Live in the LBC DVD’s to hype it up.
They also made it to keep us enjoy waiting for the next album they will release 2 years later (Nightmare)
