    One more excellent video on this channel. It's worth mentioning that if you are taking B12 supplementation by any form, sublingual, oral or injection, only use methylcobalamin, which is the coenzyme or active form of vitamin B12. Decline any other form of B12.

    My Neurologist diagnosed me with Autoimmune Pernicious Anemia B12 deficiency. I get an injection once a month. I see comments here that some only get a injection every 3 months. If I went that long without an injection, I would end up being hospitalized. You have to ask for the blood test to check for B12 deficency. For some reason, most doctors do not include this with routine blood testing and it should be so.

    • @casey617
      @casey617 Рік тому +6

      Yep. I can barely make it one month. I currently do an injection at 3wks. Those doing it every 3 months are from UK and they do not do cyanocobalamin. I believe they receive hydroxocobalamin. Thank you for correctly calling in Autoimmune PA. I have had some doctors tell me that it isn’t an autoimmune disease. So frustrating.

      @@casey617, those doctors are full of it. When I was first diagnosed, I began researching B12 Deficiency and PA because I knew absolutely nothing about it. According to my research, PA is an autoimmune disease. Sources: Mayo Clinic, The Cleveland Clinic and Johns-Hopkins and to many more to name.

      If you're getting injections of B12, make sure your doctor is using methylcobalamin, which is the active or coenzyme form of B12. Never use cyanocobalamin.

    I have Pernicious Anaemia. It took me years of to-ing and fro-ing to the GP with my symptoms to get a diagnosis. I had pins and needles constantly in my hands and feet. I was exhausted to the point that getting out of bed to go to work was a real challenge. My memory had gone from being amazing to forgetting so many things. The corners of my lips were all cracked and sore and my tongue became so painful I was living on milkshakes and soup. Eating was unbearably painful. I began getting infection after infection. My GP diagnosed me with depression. Then I was told it was all in my head. Next it must be hormonal. It wasn't until I was at the end of my tether when I saw a locum GP at my surgery that anyone considered checking my B12 levels. They were low, surprise! Next came the fight for the correct treatment. My GP stated I only needed the initial loading doses then I'd have another blood test and if that was within normal range I'd not require any further treatment. After the loading doses my B12 levels had risen. Well, obviously! Thankfully I went in armed with the NICE guidelines (im in the UK) which stated the bloods needed to include the Active B12. Also stated that PA requires treatment for life with B12 injections at least every 12 weeks. PA and other B12 deficiencies in general are way more common than we realise and is significantly under diagnosed and it is so simple to test for!

      Oh geez. I've had these symptoms for years, going back into my teen years. I've been underweight and deficient in a host of other vitamins though which is what I've always been told (iron deficiency and I need to eat more) but even after infusions the symptoms have never gone away. Might get this checked out, cheers for the wake up call 😅

      Your doctor sounds low-key useless tbh and I'm sorry it took so long to work out what was going on. I just had our med-school lecture on B12 deficiency and basically if someone presents with long term tiredness and shortness of breath we should immediately suspect anaemia and that the blood test should include testing for folate, iron and B12 levels (because yes, testing deficiency for these nutrients and testing for anaemia is easy). I'm also shocked that your GP didn't know B12 deficiency treatment is for life. I'm glad you have it sorted and I wish you all the best!

      They used to treat this condition with food high in iron and B12 to counter the problems low B12 cause to the blood cells. If your problem is due to your gut not being able to extract B12 from food, you need to get B12 injected into the muscle. If you ask for this you should start to feel better in about three months. My experience is I feel good for about 6 weeks after a jab and then get another at 8 weeks to stop the decline, but I think lots of people are different and for women the cycle may come in to play.

      Was this because of your Vitamin B12 deficiency or because you were taking a B12 supplement?
      I'm confused: Hyper is a prefix derived from the Greek word for "over," and Hypo is a Greek prefix that means "under."
      Did you develop excessive pigmentation in the areas you mention (i.e., hyper=over). Or did you experience a lack of pigmentation (i.e., hypo=under) in those areas?

      @@NikolaNacevski-bf6ipvery low energy, weak and exhausted, fatigue wanted to sleep a lot, oxygen hunger(shortness of breath, inflammation pain through body from minor exercise like walking for 20 minutes, occasional anxiety, occasionally low mood (depression). ALL of these resolved very quickly (within 3 days) from taking methycobalamine b12 along with methylfolate b9. A blood test had showed my b12 quite low despite eating b vitamin foods, managing stress, and taking b vitamins but in the wrong form, also rarely drink alcohol so it wasnt that reducing my b vitamins. After my ND saw the blood test, having heard all my other symptoms she put me on active form b vitamins mentioned b12 and b9 in the methylated form that is, and had me obtain a dna test which when it returned, showed 2 copies (one from each parent, in my case) of common gene variant of the mthfr gene (methyl-tetra-hydro-folate reductase) and related gene variants. Within 3 days on the recommended form of b vitamins I felt super well rested and was bouncing out of bed with the energy I had between the ages of 16 and 23. No more debilitating fatigue, had energy again for exercise and housework and career and a social life again. My mood was good no matter what stressors were happening. My blood marker returned to optimal level for b12. My mood stabilized and still feeling amazing over a year later. My performance review at work says I doubled my output, which i attribute to being able to focus better and mental clarity once the symptoms all resolved. Now I'm seeing a fitness coach to gradually get strong again which is much easier now that I have regular stable energy. I learned from the reading I've done since that over one third of people are affected by this gene variant. I also learned that in my case, having 2 copies of that gene variant (one from each parent) meant I had approx 70% less energy than most people. If someone only has one variant copy of the gene and one normal copy of the gene, they might only have 30% less energy or notice the effects more subtly.
