just a quick question, you have to turn off the IBIS on camera and OSS of lens, to record the gyro meta data?
if you turn on the IBIS active/standard, will the gyrodata still be recorded?

Great video....not clear why shoot at high shutter speed? Seems to fly at the universal recommendation to shoot 24 fps at 50, 30 at 60 etc? I am novice, but thought fast shutter speeds result in jerky movement. And much of your footage may not need stabilization and you'd be stuck with the fast shutter?

Finally, someone who actually understands why to NOT to use a 180° shutter. Literally this principle applies to all forms of electronic stabilisation but all the sheep on UA-cam just keep repeating “24 fps 180 shutter”.

You cannot color grade then stabilize in Catalyst as of yet. At least, it's not possible because the containers you export don't contain metadata tracks. What you can use that is free is Gyroflow. It a bit more complicated but if you study it a little, it's not as bad. It's far more flexible than Catalyst.

Great video! Catalyst Browse is a game changer, just hoping for a plug-in for NLEs soon. I've gotten good results using pixel motion blur in After Effects to add motion blur and the Flicker Free plug-in to handle flicker from higher shutter speeds indoors.

Thanks Arnis, yeah it would be pretty great if this was available as a plugin - even if it was just for getting the metadata in the NLE's. I can definitely vouch for that digital anarchy flicker free plug-in - that has save many shoots for my teams.

So if I know already this will be a shaky shoot an I shoot with IBIS or Active Stabilizer that crops in on top so that we get the mobile phone experience I receive a native 4K File. So I don't really see the use case. Just if I forgot to turn it on. I would be nice to have this meta data also in stabilized shoot just in case it was not enough.

Thanks for taking the time to watch and learn. I honestly can't say I've tried to stabilize a clip that long yet. First make sure you're on the latest version, which i bet you are. You have great hardware.
Next what I'd do, as long as you don't need to full 30 minute take continuously, I would break it into 3, 10 minute clips with in and out markers in Catalyst to see if that helps. Please let me know if it does or doesn't. I'm very curious now.

Concerning the 8-bit Dilemma of the free Version.

I now suggest using xavc intra. This is a free 10 bit good quality codec. Then color after stabilizing.

Hey thanks so much. It's so cool to know we can connect from Colorado all the way to Germany. I love that. Anyway you bring up a great point and I insight I should've mentioned in this video. Batch stabilizing clips is not an option in Catalyst currently. I really hope they release an update that allows for this especially since the software can batch transcode with the same settings applied already.
For now it's a one at a time kind of deal. I personally only use it on a few shots per project so it hasn't been too bad, but I can certainly understand a use to batch an entire card at once. Let's hope they offered a solution or even better a resolve or final cut plugin in the future.

    • @CreativeVideoTips
      @CreativeVideoTips  3 роки тому +3

Hi Dustin - the technical, correct answer is yes - you are losing quality. However, you can adjust how much of that quality you are losing by how much you crop in. Another good thing to remember is that people will always react more to really bad shaky footage, then slightly softer footage (in most cases). I'd say, use it to taste and you're good.

I just watn to know. Thisis my experiance from a movie shoot. I stbilized some clips, PS ! this was before the update of program ( C. B ) I suddenly got some banding in the skies. I thiw C. B downgraded the footage to 8-bit. Manybe they fixed thi in the upgrade ?
I aldo just want to emphasize that; After the upgrade, we now can use C.B , even after shooting with OSS, set to ON. That was snot possible in early version. So , f.eks, if you shott with a 24-105, you should definitely have the OSS , ON, and not turn in off. ptical stab. will alway be a better option, the best avtually. Adn then apply some C. B.
I did a test last night. I shott a whole movie with SONY fx9 , and I tested the camera thoroughly, and found that the stabilizer in D. R was better. than C. B. ..............BUT ! last night, with the SONY a7 IV ( actually a better camera, in many ways than fx9. the gyro stab, from C. B, was much better !. The D. R coudl not handle it. On my Pana s1H clips the D. Rstabillizer also works fine .........just som thought there. And !! NB. I f you shoot in Xavs S-I, you should be aware, when you trancode and save the stabilized footage. Becasue on default, ( even if you set it to " same as original", it saves as XAVC S.....only 100( bitrate)

No! Just checked, atleast my FX9 Slog3 clips come in 422 10bit. Just like they were shot.

@@MuwexTech thanks a lot! It would be very weird if it did that!

The problem with this is that it compresses your video before you could color grade it

Ok, i can decide to use OSS and IBIS WITHOUT cropping my footage ore using Catalyst Browse and Crop my Footage. Seems legit😂😂😂😂

I sure wish it could do that, but I'm not aware of it having that capability
