I have a personal Joe Walsh story... Back in 2012 I was running a small Italian restaurant in NYCs Hells Kitchen neighborhood. Joe Walsh walks in with his wife and an old couple, was either his or his wife's parents. My maitre'd is about 23 yrs old, doesn't recognize him. Seats Joe and his guests at a terrible table by the entrance to the bathrooms. I got to her, ask if she knows she just sat a VIP at a terrible table. She doesn't know who he is, so I cant blame her. I went to the table, and whispered to him that I'd have a corner table in a few moments. But he was super humble! He didn't care at all about the "bad" table. Said he and his family were fine. So later in the night i was back in the kitchen chilling with the chef, when the maitre'd came in and said "that guy on table 43 (Joe's table) is outside and he wants to talk to you." So I rush out. And Joe Walsh tells me he just wanted to tell me he really appreciated that i was looking out for him. We chatted for a while about music and some Eagles stories. A real special moment. One of my favorite celebrity meetings. In NYC I've met so many celebs, from J.Lo to Meryl Streep to Michelle Obama to Daniel Day Lewis and even to Yoko Ono...but Joe Walsh was definitely one of the most memorable because he was such a good guy. I'll never forget meeting him.
The lyrics refer to the lifestyle prevalent in California back in the 1970s (may still be the same now for all I know) where rock bands were indulged with many pleasures & with drugs. The last line of the song, “You can check out any time you want, but you can never leave”, refers to dying of a drug over dose( to check out was to die) but you can never kick the addiction. At least that’s how I interpret it. Glad you enjoyed it, it is iconic!
The guitarist with the bandana & regular guitar that made you do a stank face on his solo is the one & only Joe Walsh. Joe was very famous in "The James Gang" & as a solo artist. The Eagles hired him & he VERY much breathed new life into them for the "Hotel California" album. He is a master slide guitartist & is well-known for being quite the character to say the least. His 2 biggest solo songs are: "Rocky Mountain Way" "Life's Been good" When you're ready for collaborations & feel more familiar with Darryl Hall of Hall & Oates I HIGHLY recommend watching Joe sing 'Rocky Mountain Way" with Darryl (Live At Darryl's House). At any age - that man is a bad, bad, bad man. 🔥🔥🔥
It's called a double neck guitar. Eagles guitarist Don Felder was playing the most common version of the double neck guitar - an electric guitar with twelve strings on the upper neck, while the lower neck has the normal six.
This concert was at the Capital Center, near Wash. DC in 1977. It was one of the best concerts I ever went to, it was a blast. I still think Randy Meisner's "Take it to the Limit" performance was one of the highlights of the night. And of course, Felder & Walsh's dueling guitar solo at the end of 'Hotel California" is legendary. For many this was a 'have to see' concert because Joe Walsh had joined the group a couple years earlier and he brought a more rock sound to the Eagles. Btw, all the members took turns as lead singer.
I watched these last year and they were amazing! Anyone who ever gets chance to see them live GO you won't regret it Deacon Frey, Glens son plays with them now and he is the spitting image of his dad Check out more eagles songs.... oh and Phil Collins and his band genesis are a good example of the drummer singing lead, watching Phil Collins and Chester Thompson play drums together is an amazing experience too
Musicians at the absolute top of their game!!! If you watch The Band, it's lead singer is also the drummer, and you should honestly check out The Band - "The Weight".
Do yourself the favor of listening to The Eagles "Hotel California" from their Hell Freezes Over tour. You will NOT be able to react to this, it is licensed to the hilt but you deserve to hear this. It is the same song but they twisted it just a bit... Thank you, young man, for doing this one.. stay safe & stay strong.
Great reaction! I love this song and The Eagles. Don Henley, drummer and lead vocals, and Glen Frey, (RIP) acoustic guitar, wrote most of the music and.both sang lead on most of their songs. Joe Walsh, the guitarist with blond hair and single neck guitar, was with a band called The James Gang, try Funk 49 from the, and Joe was a solo act, try Life’s Been Good to Me So Far. There is another Eagles song I love called Life in the Fast Lane. Really, most of their stuff is great.

RIP Glenn Frey. The Eagles documentary is AMAZING! It is a very honest look at the band from start to finish. I only say finish because Glenn is now dead.
Capital Centre, Landover, MD USA 21 March 1977. My favorite version of my favorite song. The line "they stab it with their steely knives" is a shout out to Steely Dan, who name-check the Eagles in their song "Everything You Did".
The guitar Felder plays is a double neck guitar one is a regular 6 string and the other is a 12 string. The 12 string has 2 strings in place of a single string, both strings are tuned to the same note but different octaves. It gives the guitar a harp like sound.
It is amazing to me and others how these youtube video reactions are allowing the GENZ, Mellinial, and GENX to experience their history and their past heritage of their people and their country's awesome past. It is amazing how I have witness the younger generation start out just reacting to these videos for hits and subscribers to sebthem transform into really loving these awesome performers from all of the different genres. Don't ever let anyone tell you or ask you why you listen to old school music, because you can enjoy the present and past artist, who were great singers, instrumentalists and performers. Used some things from your past heritage and mix some things from the past and future, and it becomes amazing. This is how it has always been. With saying all that, I really would appreciate it if you listen to one of their songs called "One of These Nights", to me it was one of their greatest songs to me, even though there was so many.
They are playing the song in B-minor, so Don Felder has a capo on the 7th fret of his electric 12 string to make it easier to play the famous intro with regular chords ( like having a shorter guitar ) - otherwise you are constantly one finger short, when playing barred chords ( using your index finger to cover all 6 or 12 strings ).
I just discovered your channel today and I have already watched 5 reactions. I truly appreciate you giving some time to classic rock. As you have noticed, there was generally a lot of talent and artistry put into most of these songs. That is why I love classic rock so much. About Glenn Frey, you might want to check out his song Smugglers Blues". Just a thought. Please keep discovering by rock music! Oh, and also try the "First Ladies of rock" HEART (Magic Man, Barracuda etc..).
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on what arguably is one of the top songs of all time. The Eagles did not need special effects to entertain the crowd, just awesome music and vocals. Check out "7 Bridges Road" to experience some their awesome harmony.
Really good reaction and I have Subscribed, my friend. Apparently to play Drums and sing is the hardest thing to do. Phil Collins is another example :)
If you would like to hear another popular concert song of theirs listen to Randy Meisner singing "Take It To The Limit". He had a great falsetto voice and when he really put it to use near the end the crowd would go crazy.
If you haven’t done so, you should react to “The Last Resort” by The Eagles. Amazing song with an amazing message. Great channel. Love you reactions. Keep it up!
And don't forget Joe Walsh. Hope you listen to the whole album. The Eagles had incredible guitar harmonies as well as vocal harmonies. That's called a double neck guitar; Jimmy Page's is a Gibson.
This a ref flag song, one of those warnings you do not see until you get trapped, hollywood is big bad place , a dirty industry, where you might get lost, no come back home a las vegas where the backstage is frightening and the glam a silent killer. So sweet so deep and so dark, love this song.
If you've seen Eddie Murphy in Beverly Hills Cop, the opening song, "The Heat Is On" was a a solo project by Glenn Frey (pronounced "Fry"). The Eagles are a group you could create an entire library of reactions for their group collectively and their careers individually. Case in point, Joe Walsh "Life's Been Good", Don Henley "New York Minute", etc.
*sigh* I love Joe Walsh. He was the only reason I bought this album. Amazing guitar player and amazing writer. 💜💜💜 edit: Joe’s the guitar player with the bandana on his head. 💜
