How is winter sawing going ? I used to hate frozen logs. Hard on knives, bandsaws snaking and fine dust building up. All this here in BC in softwood mills. I can imagine what it's like in a hardwood mill. Happy sawing and stay safe!

It’s been tough the wetter species and fresher logs sawdust freezes as the log is being cut and pushes on the saw Main mill was cutting poplar it was a nightmare last week the saws were having a tough time cutting Today we started sawing Ash so because most of the ash trees are fairly dry it cut pretty good tomorrow we are going back to poplar. Then next week will be Red Oak and white oak for the next 6-8 weeks it’s nice it warmed up some -5. Is much better than -18 The chipper knives have been getting changed twice a day chunks of frozen sand and mud dull the saws as well as the chipper it’s been a challenge but today was good sawed 177 soft maple logs changed into Ash at end of the day cut another 85 ash so I pretty productive day Thanks for the kind words have a great week

You seem to have a lot of problems with your chipper.....Get rid of the chipper, kiln dry your slabs, and sell your slabs as firewood. Or sell it to any local campgrounds...

No not really. The blades get changed everyday. Sometimes 2 or 3 times. So we stay running while they are being changed .. our kilns are always full of lumber there would be no time to kiln dry slabs. They all eventually get grinded up into chips We have a huge contract sawdust wood chips and bark fines with a very large fertilizer and mulch facility they take 1000s of loads from up every years sometimes up to 12 loads a day. The trailers we have hold up to 140 yards of sawdust or chips To cut up slabs then kiln dry then we would have so much times into them there would be no money to be made would likely lose money on them. Thanks for watching
