The reason why the run with the ball in the “end zone” is because the team has to kick the try conversion in line w wherever they dot the ball dow. So it’s better to dot the ball closer to the polls so the conversion kick is easier. Hope that helps. Plus love the rugby content.
The closer the try (putting the ball down on the end zone, worth 5 point) is to the goal post, the closer the kicker can take kick at the post for the extra 2 points. So if you get a touchdown on the corner, the kicker has to kick from a far away distance (those beautiful long kicks), but if the touchdown is under the goal post the kicker kicks from close by, directly at the post (making it an easy +2 points, on top of the +5 from the try). Wonderful to see you guys getting into rugby more & more as the episodes release.
Another great player to react to is Bryan Habanna who also played for the Springboks and holds the world record for the most tries in a World Cup. Enjoy
Kolbe's cousin is Wayde van Niekerk - current world and Olympic record holder in 400m and also runs 100m & 200m. Blits-vinnige familie! Both humble and God-fearing athletes. Kolbe always thanks God after a try. I see Arendse does the same. Habana also did it.
As a South African living in the US its great to see more Americans noticing rugby! and its awesome to see you guys notice the talent and athletic! The next step for me would be seeing you guys go out and play a bit or hit up a practice! I know there is some great rugby on the east coast and the chesapeake area! great content keep it up!
I don't understand why the Americans play football by themselves. You'd think they would also want to compete on the world stage. Lets face it, rugby is the ultimate sport.
The goosestep (goosey) is known in NFL as a dead-kick. Kolbe is exceptionally talented in this and also the side step and the swerve. In the one you step/change direction at point of acceleration and the other is a step/swerve when you are already in acceleration-mode. Kolbe also seems to have mastered the art of being thrown about by opppsition, like a rag-dol, and falling safely. And not being afraid of the big guys.
Im a South african and love you guy's reactions...Cheslin Kolbes hero is Geo Aplon, also a rugby player, they come from the same town! Its worth havin a look at Geo Aplon too
To answer your question why they take so long to put it down. It's not showboating, the closer the try to the poles the closer the conversion kick to the post too, so that is why they always try to get under the post or nearer
Cheslin is from a very poor background. The areas of Cape Town known for gang violence. He inspires many kids to strive for something better. A true hero
The narrative of this Kolbe compilation is to show his versatility as a rugby player and highlighting his athleticism. He can play any backline position and play it well. As shown - From right wing (no 14) to left wing (no 11); back (no 15) and even do conversion kicks (field goal). He is fast, very fast. Though small, he packs a lot of muscle and not scared of getting in the big tackles. As an aside, a try is called a try, because it used to count as 3 points (tri). As mentioned by others above, touching down closer to the poles earns a better conversion position. Touching down between the poles earns a kick right in front of the poles, 5m abreast. Fouling a player that was without doubt, on his way to score a try, gets a penalty try awarded with a goalkick right in front of the posts...! Welcome to rugby. We won't hold it against you if you support the All Blacks. Our fiercest, but most respected rival. There's a definite rivalry between the different hemispheres. Ireland vs Argentina...? Of course, I'll support Argentina (southern hemisphere), first, before Ireland (northern hemisphere)... Anyway, the best way to learn/understand the rules of rugby, is to watch a full match. What better opportunity, than RWC, to hone your knowledge. Enjoy the world cup. PS. Sorry about writing an essay.... Oops, not sorry. Die hard fan, here. 😂
Beautiful seeing players play in our Nationals with various teams, rising up to the challenge to become a Springbok, our International Team & only the best will do when we build Champions for the WorldCup.
what allot of these compilations dont show is his incredible defence as well. Especially with how South Africa play. There have been so many times where he has just stopped the enemy advance in its tracks, sometimes entirely, other times long enough for the team to come in and assist
Hi bro's gtsy. ❤ Secret to our triumph is teamwork. Each player is the best in their positions they play. Our best sprinters are Cheslin Kolbe, Makazole Mapimpi, Kurt Lee Arendse and Canan Moodie. Canan in my opinion is going to reach the top. He is good at attack, defense, dodging running and he can read the game with ease.He also knows how to make a game. Surely knows how to take any gap. Lotsa love South African rugby granny❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
In rugby the positions are so different you cant really compare all the players like that. Kolbe is the best winger in my opinion. Eben Etzebeth also plays for South Africa/ Springboks and hes a "forward", so a big heavy dude basically that focuses more on grunt work. Watch him, hes also incredible, 6'8 120kg and violent lol.
The position where you place the ball when you try determines the position of where the ball will be placed for the conversion . So it's better to try and put it closely to the poles rather than the far ends of the pole so as to avoid those angles when kicking for the conversion 💪🙏
Should point out rugby players don't do as well in NFL as you might expect. It's a different game in many respects, but what trips up most players is the plays they have to memorize. In rugby they have set plays, but since it's a free-flowing game, the play can change on-the-fly, but this doesn't compare to the sheer number of plays the average NFL team need to memorize. Also, if you suddenly put on pads and a helmet, it will feel very cumbersome and is something to get used to. Another point to consider, is that the ball size, weight and texture is different, which could lead to handling errors if you cannot adapt to the change.
In rugby the continuously run length of the field back-and-forth and in football teams tend to stay on their sides, is this correct? How long is a typical NFL game?
When you score a try, what follow is a conversion which is like a bonus chance to add to your try points. In order for conversion to be converted easily the try must be closer to the poles. That's why it's wise to get as close as possible to the posts before you score a try
Fun fact < He is related to Wade Vanikerk the 400m gold Olympic record holder who broke the long-standing of Michael Johnson. They both are devoted Christians,
A try is 5 points. Once you've scored the try, you get to convert that try with a kick, which is an extra 2 points. Wherever the ball touches in the goal area is the place where you get to take the kick from infield. It's up to the kicker to decide how far out from the try line he wants to place the ball, but it still has to be in the line from where the try was scored. It can be taken from 5 meters or even 50 meters out from the try line. A penalty kick is 3 points. The same works with a penalty kick. The penalty is taken from the exact spot the penalty was given by the referee, which is also the same spot where the foul play was committed by the other team.
reason why we hold on to the ball longer before trying is not for show boating , his being mindful of the kicker ,making it easier and closer for him to the poles.
FYI the position that they score the try in relation to poles determined the position of the conversion kick. So closer you down the try to the poles, the easier it is for them to convert / kick for the extra points.
Good on you for knowing something about the game. Why they take so long to put down the ball with a try-the closer to the poles they put it down the closer the kicker is to the poles to convert the try for more points.
They run closer to the "poles" to score the try (5 points) to make it easier for the guy who kicks to the "end pole" (2 points). So the kickers placement of the ball is in line with where the try was scored.
Hi Mookie you making the right choice man, the Boks are currently the world champs. They're gonna win it again. The current world player is the French number 9 and captain. Like your support of the sport
So the reason they try to run towards the uprights in the end zone is to make it easier for the kicker who has to try and add 2 points to turn the try into a goal.
The reason for taking longer to place the ball down, is simply to get closer to the goal poles. The closer you put the ball down, the closer you get to convert the kick to follow...
The reason why some players wait a bit to put the ball down for a try, is to try and get closer to the goal post, to make the conversion kick easier for the kicker to get the extra 2 points… also sometimes a little bit of showboating yeah 😂
They wait so long to put the ball down because the closer they get to below the posts the easier It is for the kicker to score the next 2 points by kicking through the posts. After a try (5points) you get a goal kick attempt from as far back as you like but it must be in line with where you put the ball down. That is why they try get to below the posts. The ball is still in play until you put it down. The opposing team must tackle you to stop you getting below the posts.
They wait so long to put it down because when you score the try (dot the ball down) you get 5 points and a opportunity to convert the try (kick the ball over the poles off a tee) for 2 additional points but you kick inline where the ball was dotted down, hence they always try dot it as close to the poles as they can.
Whereever you place the ball when scoring the try is where you have to take the conversion from (that angle) so the closer to the posts the easier the kick. Easier the kick more points you ear
They don't wait long to put it down, the more closer you put it down towards the poles the easier the conversion kick will be, because it will be either inline with the poles or closer
They wait to put it down because the convertion kick is taken opposite where you have placed the ball...so closer to the poles makes the kick easier...

You get to kick between the posts for an extra 2 points (conversion) after a try, from where the ball was placed, so closer behind the posts is an easier kick, hope that explains it?😎
It's not showboating .. the distance and angle of the conversion that follows a try is determined how close the ball it touched down to the poles .. So if it's far from the poles .. the conversion penalty is far. If it's under the poles. The conversion is basically in front of the poles

In NFL terms , the PAT is taken in line from where the ball is grounded in the end zone
