So basically use a root chest on the big spikey roller mob... as well as anything else in the game pretty much. Carry a ton of fire resist. Expect lots of mobs. Got it , many thanks.
Possible to make an updated "The Best Weapon For Each Biome! (Explained in 6 minutes)" video? I really like how informative your videos are and still direct to the point. Keep it up
Sure, I'm about to make a video for the current best armors in the game, then I'll start taking a look at making a best weapon for each biome. Call me Papa John cause I always deliver.
When i saw they went with the blandest of the three ashmage armor concepts that really sealed the deal for coming back to my root chest. Tho I might swap out for mage gear for some hocus focus. Low-key I don't actually mind taking it through the biomes. I got my root from the swamp, my frostner from the mountains, my cloak from the mistlands, and my wine from the plains. To me it's more like taking my achievements in the previous biomes with me.
It would be interesting to see how root vest does against accidentally getting hit by one of those fire blobs. I know they give plenty of warning before exploding, but if you're running from mobs from every direction, you might end up getting fire goo on you. Guess the play is to just pop a fire resist potion right when landing, just in case.
Yeah fire resist mead when in doubt, however, if you are stingy, quite a few of the mobs dont even do fire damage. However, might have to let a lava blob hit me just to see the damage without a fire mead.
Fenris armor is pretty good for scouting and exploring the ashlands. You out run everything, especially if u make the new Ashvin Cape. I'll try out the Root Chest but since magic is helpful I just run Carapace Helm (switched to Flametal Helm) with 2 pieces of mage armor and it works out fine when I have fight or clear a fortress.
the fact that the warlock hits like a truck is because you are wearing the feather cape, it is VERY weak to fire. take it off when fighting warlocks it helps
Something i noticed last night was that, The Feather Cape now has "Very Weak vs Fire" stat on it, so you have to use a fire potion if you want the cape Also i enter with a mixed set - Padded Head, Root Chest, Ether Legs (didnt want to farm for full Ether set) i'm the party Support Mage - primary to cast protection and when possible deal damage
Honestly as long as you have rested buff, that is an extra +100% eitr regen. The extra regen you get from the armor seems to have diminishing returns. Maybe they have made changes to it since I last tested it.
I tried to enter with Fenris and gave up due to very low defnce and daggers becoming very ineffective. Switched to mage with skill levels below 10 and it was much easier, especially after getting the root staff after first bastion. On my first playthrough I used max armor build with sword and bucker, it was very viable thanks to parrying.
Unfortunately the Valkyrie wasn't included in the test, what about that? edit: the Asksvin is also not included, but they are common enemies in the Ashlands.
Valkyrie seemed to have Pierce damage. Root chest surprisingly was better than carapace. Just take your resistance meads. The askvin's damage is not reduced by the root chest, so you do take a little bit extra damage than the carapace. Hopefully that helps. I'll make sure to include more enemies in my next video.
Whats the point of upgrading your last biomes armor if its useless in the next biome. The incentive for upgrading should mean its bis for the next biome
That is currently the problem. I don't think the root chest is overpowered, I just think that all of the following options have been underwhelming. It would make sense that full carapace should be your best option to enter the Ashlands, but that just isn't the case due to no other armor piece being nearly as useful as halving the damage of a common damage type.
Barley wine completely negates any fire weakness, and all pre-ashlands capes have the same armor values, so you can just swap to something else if you are worried about the fire weakness.
how much more damage is reduced if you wear carapace legs instead of fenris? If you're popping barely wines, the resistance to fire isnt needed on fenris, main thing is you arent slowed down as much but considering voltures actually do a good amount of slash damage, and theyre in groups, that would probably be this mixed sets main issue.
The Fenris legs are only for the movement speed. You need the full set for the fire resist buff. The damage resistance of carapace legs is in my opinion not worth the tradeoff of the extra speed due to armor giving diminishing returns the higher it gets. I belive my "Is Fenris Armor Op" video shows the damage difference, and the speed difference.
@@t0ssacoin408 Right now stand and wait to parry while 3 Warriors, a Morgen, 5 Marksmen and a pack of Askvins are all getting in a circle to make your aquantaince
Definitely mentioned that the Ashlands is littered with enemies. I just didnt test vs multiple enemies so that I could better showcase each armors resistances vs some common enemies.
This video was only for entering the Ashlands your first couple of times before you can upgrade to the flametal set. Stay tuned though because I will be testing the new armors very soon (Then I'll say whether Root is better than flametal or not).
Fair.. tbh I abandoned this comment to make a more complete comment with my other one. Shouldn't have hit post rather than clicking through to discard on this one
ughh, root harnesk is such poorly designed item. It is completely breaking the progression it's so OP. A tier 3 light armor item should not be your best defensive choice in biome 7. that's rediculous. They should change it so that you only get pierce resist when you're wearing all three root pieces.
I just wish they would add more armor bonuses or better ones atleast. Variety in choice is fun. Remove the root chest, and we still lack diversity in choice. It is just whatever has the highest armor value. Easy nerf to root is to just remove some pierce damage from the ashlands, but I'd rather they just add cool bonuses to other armors.
My only complaint is that you didn't try to parry, use any blessings, dodge or even block. Good job on showcasing the armor resistances but it does not take into account many of the things that will actually kill you in the ashlands... its not just the enemies. Otherwise it's a good video on the basis of noobs not knowing the combat but at this point you should be much better at combat unless you are just coming back...
I get it, I just focused on the armor resistances because your armor should always be your last defense, and I wanted to show what would protect you best. Good food and a Good shield will do most of the work.
They REALLY need to tone down the enemy spawn. It's actually ridiculous. You'll have 3 or every mob type chasing you at times. Like wtf are we meant to do at that point??
I won't disagree that the set is viable. It's for sure fun to use and effective to an extent, but to claim it's the best set. Opinions are nice, but all these Valheim youtube videos claiming movement speed is king etc. etc. just seem to be trying to show off something off-meta just for content. I have seen live streams of these Fenris lovers and they die constantly. Ashlands is designed to be overwhelming in terms of mob size and you will get hit by things inevitably. You are not getting hit by things constantly, but those one or two things that hit you occasionally cannot be fatal. Try getting hit by one of the one or two star mobs without pierce damage. You will get one-shot much more often. Why exclude Askvin, Valkyrie and Voltures? Coincidentally enough, those are high-frequency mobs with minimal to no pierce damage. Try testing a hit from 1-star Askvin. It takes lucky one hit in the middle of a fight to go through the trouble of picking up your corpse. Sure you can run away from a fight, but the point is which armor set is more effective? That would be in terms of time you need to spend to clear out the biome. You can't say run away from an unfavorable fight with your movespeed. That is simply too time-consuming. It's actually much easier to fight Fader with no gear than to try to maneuver your way through Ashlands mobs with low armor rating. It just takes much longer and depends on luck.
ua-cam.com/video/5s-2O3AVYss/v-deo.html&ab_channel=T0ssACoin This video has numbers for all of the mobs. Best is situational, but I don't carry multiple armor pieces to swap between for each fight, so I try to choose an armor setup that is best for majority of situations. Movement speed is definitely king though. Best defense is to not get hit. I just usually choose armor builds that mix protection and movement because that is more casual friendly, which I very much am. There is usually a reason most people prefer the lighter armors in this game.
So basically use a root chest on the big spikey roller mob... as well as anything else in the game pretty much.
Carry a ton of fire resist.
Expect lots of mobs.
Got it , many thanks.
Perfectly summarised
I am not going to wear that ugly ass root armour for 4 biomes straight. Devs. I hope you’re watching this.

Good point, the fire portion of their attack does a sizeable amount of damage to root and the feather cape.
