  • Part of our Fuel Friday series, Damian shows how we repack and resleeve our exhaust silencers. We also give this motorcycle exhaust a bit of a refurb by media blasting the end caps and link pipe.
    Quick links...
    00:48 How to check if your aftermarket exhaust needs repacking
    02:27 To take the exhaust silencer apart, drill out the rivets on the inlet end
    03:07 Remove outlet end cap
    03:37 Remove the old used exhaust packing / wadding material
    04:38 Drill the inlet end of the exhaust
    05:19 Remove exhaust body / sleeve
    06:40 Media blasting the existing inlet and outlet
    07:41 The differences between powder coating and ceramic coating
    08:08 Mark the end caps to indicate where the existing holes are located
    09:06 Add a silicone based sealent to the inside of the inlet end of the exhaust tube / sleeve
    09:20 Line up and fit the internal end cap and perforated tube section inside the sleeve
    10:22 Using stainless steel wirewool
    11:44 Using exhaust packing material - wadding
    11:58 Insert the wirewool and exhaust wadding into the exhaust sleeve
    12:19 Refit the outlet end cap and line up appropriately
    14:44 Refitting the rivet band - drill and rivet in the first hole
    16:50 Drill all other holes and rivet in place
    18:56 Tap down the edges of the rivet bands
    19:11 Fit the heat resistant Fuel Exhausts foil label / badge
    19:54 Final clean

    Is this refurb cost effective ? What I mean by that is the cost of your labour and parts to do this more expensive than buying a new one or does it come in cheaper ?

    • @FuelExhaustsLtd
      @FuelExhaustsLtd  2 роки тому

      Yes it is definitely worth it and cost effective for the customer but it does depend on a number of factors. If it is a resleeve and repack then is cost effective and is cheaper than buying new. If there is more damage to the exhaust, ie the end caps are damaged, then no it is probably not worth it. We are only referring to our exhausts here.

      @@FuelExhaustsLtd good to know - I have one of your systems so good to know that this service is available. When you media blast the end caps or link pipe does it remove all traces of dirt/crap/tar/ etc. and bring them back to a new finish ?

      @@buncobooth yes but it does need a certain amount of cleaning up anyway before it goes in the blaster. Adding the media blasting service will increase the cost. I actually was only referring to repacking and resleeving in my last comment. ;-)

    why a so small baffle on a long exhaust

    • @FuelExhaustsLtd
      @FuelExhaustsLtd  2 роки тому

      This is the size to get the best sound whilst remaining UK road legal. Making a longer baffle does not always effect the sound much and can also make a difference to the performance. The baffle length takes this into account to get the best overall result.
