“Superstar” really showcases her voice. Richard Carpenter and Karen Carpenter were brother and sister. She died tragically at a young age from complications from anorexia. Karen was an accomplished drummer - she thought of herself as a drummer who sang. She had one of the THE truly great voices.
Yes that is my favorite. Karen Carpenter and her brother Richard are just great, and Karen has one of the best female voices ever! Her Linda Ronstandt are my top two.
Asia had the most confused look on her first during the video like she was thinking "can this be for real?" She got it though: Karen Carpenter had the most beautiful voice in music.
That level of melancholy in a voice is rare so it takes a bit of processing at the start, its like hearing a rare exotic birds plaintive call for the first time.
One of America's greatest female vocalists EVER. Gone far too soon at age 32. Probably the first famous person to die of anorexia. Just two average kids from Downey, California who became overnight international superstars. PLEASE listen to all the song recommendations surely coming in the comments. "Superstar" and "Close to You" are incredible. Also, a lot of huge rock stars regarded her as one of the best drummers anywhere.
Karen was one of a kind. There will never be another like her. She had such a pure calming voice. And she was a terrific drummer. That was her passion even more than singing. Sadly we lost her so young. Thankfully we have her legacy left in her music.
@@knightdragon5640 She had been singing willingly for a few years before they hit it big, and didn't need to be pushed - and preferring to play the drums is not the same as not knowing she had a great voice - everyone, including her, knew right from the start...what she needed a little "push" on was coming out from behind the drum set she loved so much to sing out front where everyone could see the woman attached to that gorgeous voice...
@@johnb.2518 there is the story of John lennon telling Karen she had a beautiful voice, and then Karen asking her manager if John Lennon really meant that.
All of their songs were great. Karen and her brother Richard ( piano and backup singer)were “The Carpenters”. I think this song was about depression. Superstar is another great song ☮️💜
Karen Carpenter takes you to unexpected places emotionally every time she sings. Check out more of her work - Superstar is excellent along with Goodbye to Love. Oh, she also played drums on most of their recordings. A beautiful soul gone too soon.
Asia and BJ. Their "Only Just Begun" and "Close To You" are all-time classics. Karen's voice is so soothing and rich, one of the best ever!! Her brother Richard is on piano and did musical arrangements for the group.
A few more you should try by them: - Yesterday Once More - Top of the World - Please Mr Postman - There's a Kind of Hush - Only Yesterday - Goodbye To Love
You’ve finally heard her voice. Hallelujah! She touches the soul. She is also a kick ass drummer. Do “Superstar” or “ We’ve Only just Begun”. You can’t go wrong with any of their songs.
One of the greatest artists ever was Karen carpenter. Like you said she could do it out. Its a shame her life ended so soon. Her brother Richard just came out with a new book about her that I am going to eventually read.

Karen’s voice is one, that once you hear it, you can always recognize her tone!! She was gone way too soon!! She was and is, one in a trillion. Karen was the lead and drummer. Her brother played the piano.
Karen's voice feels like a soft blanket, enveloping you completely and keeping you warm. Hard to believe she'd be 71 years old. Instead she passed away at 32.
Karen had a naturally melancholy voice, that Richard tailored his songs for. One of the great female voices in pop history, for sure. And Richard was a great producer, arranger and songwriter. Both born and raised in Southern California.
Their parents had a huge eclectic record collection and a great audio system. As little kids sitting there, picking albums, listening to them together.
Karen and her brother Richard...both amazingly talented. Karen was also a top level drummer - and probably had the greatest 3+ octave "contralto" voice in recording history. Richard is still alive and famous for his "arrangements" of songs. Richard and Karen also performed their own "backup vocals". You're gonna find about 25 Carpenters songs that people love to this day.
Karen Carpenter was an Angel 😇 sent from Heaven and left us way too soon! One of the most beautiful voices ever heard! The compositions are the direct result of her brother Richard Carpenter who really played to Karen’s strengths as a singer! I LOVE ❤️ the music of The Carpenters! RIP Karen!
The Carpenters brothers were great singers! They rose to fame in 1969 until Karen Carpenter died on February 4, 1983 at the age of 32. But their music is still a legend! Keep making more reactions from The Carpenters songs!
That look when someone first hears THAT VOICE! It never gets old. Another soul has been touched by shear beauty. Miss Karen Anne Carpenter stands alone.

Being born in 1970, I would hear this music on the car radio and my mom hum to it. As I grew up I rediscovered it and as I got married and divorced and unemployed and thru tough situations, I listen to this song and other Carpenter songs as the words would hit me hard, cry and help heal me. The Carpenters and music from the 1970s really delivered good messages of sadness and healing and resolve and so this song and many of the other carpenters songs helped get me thru some really tough situations in my life. Glad you both had a chance to enjoy a golden classic. Songs like these never get old and always make a comeback in some form. Tragic what happened to Karen Carpenter. Timeless is the only word to describe this song as I listened to it many times over and over again only when I need healing or feel alone. This song is a good remedy for that.
The lead singer is Karen Carpenter, and her brother, Richard, is in the background playing piano. Some suggestions: Close to You, Superstar, Ticket to Ride, and Yesterday Once More. One of the few artists where I would always recommend the live performance vs the studio, her live singing voice is perfection. Hope you pick some where she is singing and playing drums at the same time.
You will recognize most of Karen Carpenter music. React to Close to you & We've Only Just Begun...most played wedding songs, at least I have sung them a LOT.....
