Bright Now, The Birth Of Mar-A-Lago
Marjorie Merriweather Post, the woman who built Mar-a-Lago in the 1920s, had a grand vision for the estate to one day become a “Winter White House”. She may have never imagined in her wildest dreams the ironic twists and turns the Palm Beach property would take in accomplishing the mission.

Great job just telling the story without injecting a personal narrative. Refreshing and rare these days.
Truth
My thoughts exactly
10:54 sounds kinda personal
@@yellads My thoughts as well! If you think about it, the current owner is using the property much as the original one did. So it's EXACTLY "as she imagined it".
Refreshing comment. Thank you.
Thank you for a fine documentary with zero traces of TDS.
I wish they would tell the story of Miami Beach and how Murial Harbor changed Miami. Miami Beach once was so safe .I was there. Today crime is coming there.
@@Patrick-yh5ydcrime is everywhere 🙄
Nonsense
Refreshing, and great to see ain't it Hawk.
I had the opportunity to work on the estate for a LPGA event in the ballroom ! It was stunning ; the Waterford chandeliers , gold leaf everywhere ,… was truly over the top ! Security was tight even then in the early 2010s!
Oh you’re so lucky!
Where is the main family area and bedrooms ? Do members spend their nights ?
It’s his residence isn’t it ? Or does he have another personal residence?
This was excellent. No bias - just information. Truly a breath of fresh air.
Trump made Mar-A-Lago great again !!
Yes he had the money for it. Y’all will NEVER!
He definitely made it gilded, again!
As an FYI, C.W. Post was originally a patient at the Battle Creek Sanitarium in Michigan, where John Harvey Kellogg took in patients who had gout and other dietary based diseases. He developed many diet-based products never originally intended for retail sale outside the sanitarium. As a patient, Post realized the commercial viability of these products and rooted around to discover the recipes. Among the products he ‘took’ were Corn Flakes (which were originally intended to be eaten dry), and the roasted barley coffee substitute that he called Postum. Eventually J H Kellogg’s brother, Will, lobbied for them to manufacture their dietary products for retail sale and thus was born Battle Creek, Michigan as the cereal capital of the world. Obviously, money was made hand over fist, too, as Mar-a-Lago bears witness.
This is the property that the judge in New York says is only worth 18 million dollars hahaha
Because it can't be sold as a private residence. Trump gave that up in a permanent deed to the National Trust. He got tax write offs but now the property can only be ued as a "private recreational club". Forever. What would you pay for this property if you could only live in the apartment of the "live in property manager" and the rest of the property would be used by strangers. What Billionaire wants a house where other people swim in the pool and eat at the restaurant that was once a private dining hall?
Estimates have it at close to 2 Billion dollars
@@floydhughes2147 Trump should have been charged for undervaluing it! :D
Leftist fools contacted TDS. 😅😅
I was just about to say the same
This is a great story……I enjoyed it very much! Thank you! ❤❤❤
I came from Canada to see Mar-a-Lago. It was fantastic. West palm is a great town
I loved this 11 minutes documentary so much, I wish it lasted 45 minutes. Excellent narration with zero political bias.
Given the choice between DC and Palm Beach... it's a no brainer. Great content, well done.
This is way nicer than the white house.
I've been in every room and can say the coolest room is the tower suite. It has a mid level reading room, bedroom, and you have access to the tower. The view is amazing.
My family was lucky to have been invited to a dinner at Mar A Lago in 2010, magical ☀️
Thank You 🇺🇸 I found this bit of history very interesting. President TRUMP has given the property it deserves! RIP Ms. Post 💕
Wishing the best to my favorite President!
18 million? SOLD
😂😂😂
To evaluate that Property at $18,000,000 is disgraceful. The Main Ballroom would be worth more on its own with all the extravagant Furnishings chandeliers & gold fixtures etc. Mar a Lago is a National Treasure & Iconic.
You don't seem to realize that it was deeded to the National Trust for Historic preervation. It's a commercial property with extremely high maintenance costs. It was appraised on the basis. It's not a private home.
@@hewitc You don't seem to realize that property could not be purchased for $18 million lol...
@@hewitcit was given back to the estate..which sold it to private citizen
@@hewitc It's disgusting to try to defend the persecutions Trump went through.
Orange man, not bad
Stop with that orange bullshit!!!
So glad Trump bought it.
Why? How does Mar-a-lago's ownership affect your life in any way?
Otherwise it probably would've been torn down after years without repair, he had to put a modern equivalent of 80 million dollars in repairs once he bought it.

Trump and the original owner ... WORKED for it!
So meant to be!!
It's amazing that it's only worth 18 million! ;)
Incredible
Operating costs must be enormous
Probably yeah, but it also generates well over $50M in revenue annually according to disclosures from the sham civil trial in New York.
@SwirkH Definitely was a sham.
@@SwirkHtrump is cheat..he can’t be anything else; he’s a Malignant Narcissist. They are all cut from the same cloth.
The original owner Margery Post willed it to the government due to the high costs to maintain, then the government sold it to Trump because of the maintenance costs, then Trump made it a club house for the super rich! All because of the cost in maintenance! It was built to be a money pit for sure!
Trump said 3 million a year in an interview before he was ever President, so its probably double that now.
Well done Mr President. MAGA!! 🇺🇸 😊
Trump would never say "I cant afford it" He just out smarted the state !!
Doesn't matter how rich you are. $1 million a year just in maintenance per year is a money pit. It makes way more sense as a private club than a residence. There are a lot of castles in Europe that could use some business sense.
@@mightisright This is a commercial property, not a residence. The Town of Palm Beach allows him to live there because he swore he was an employee of the club serving as a live-in property manager. He has an apartment, not the whole mansion.
@@hewitcwrong
I learned a lot from this video. Thank you!
… The Southern White House! 🇺🇸🗽
Just an apartment actually. Most of the property is a recreational club used by stranger. It's also rented out to companies for parties. Trump couldn't afford to maintain it as a private residence, like Post did.

You need to tell us the food you’re eating so that we never eat it.
Keep in mind that a corrupt NYC judge declared that Maro Lago was only worth 18 million.

did they value the estate or just trumps private quarters?

This property is priceless, it belongs to museum. That judge is so corrupt and over his head to even put any price on this unique property.
Thanks for posting this story. No one publicly gives Trump credit for saving the estate. Saving grand estates like this makes America great!
There have been too many historic estates that have been demolished over the years! Including those belonging to the likes of the Vanderbilts, Rothchilds and Rockefellers! History lost forever!!!
Beautiful
Wouldn't have dared to tell this story like this a few months ago...
Trump made it an American icon.
Wholesome presentation, great Historical perspective! The value of this property is astronomical! e.g. The Judge undervalued it by Millions! Love the classy theme, the amazing insight of Trump to make it a 'paying' investment! He always knows how to get the Positive out of any situation!
Trump buying it was a brilliant move, him using for presidential events is even smarter!
He is a billionaire. He knows how to make money... That's the role of billionaires, invent and innovate
An excellent documentary.
Great video.
Very interesting story behind such a popular name these days, Mar-A-Lago.
Really interesting. Thank-you.
Nice to see ancient imperial traditions (with winter / summer residences) back
Watching this video offers an incredible glimpse into history, highlighting the inspiring story of a successful businesswoman and entrepreneur who was not only kind but also deeply focused on philanthropy, especially during the Great Depression. It’s wonderful to see that President Trump has restored Mar-a-Lago into a place of dignity and purpose, exactly as it was originally intended. My heart was also broken seeing President Abe in this video. He was such a great leader for Japan, and it’s devastating that his life was tragically cut short.
MAGA
they left out the part that it was in disrepair and he had to spend millions to make it livable
Amazing and commendable, Nixon felt it was wrong to have the American people pay for the upkeep and deeded it back to Florida!
How anyone would think this was worth only $18 million is laughable.
Thanks for sharing!!!
Mar a Lago is stunning from A1A, but seeing it from the Intracoastal -WOW. Live not far from there; just beautiful.
2 and 1/2 million in the 1920s is nothing like 36 million now… They could never build that property for 36 million it would be in the billions! Labor was Five dollars a day for skilled labor. Now it’s $75 an hour!
BUT REMEMBER BOY'S AND GIRLS THE PROPERTY IS ONLY WORTH $18,000,000 SAYS NIPPLES MERSHON. HE IS SUCH A LUTES.
Excellent choice in choosing the visiting head of state, a "great man" and elegant beautiful lady.
I Love this Castle
Awesome!

Great story, Trump fullfill her dream.
And you can have this mansion for only for $18 milliondollars, according to one judge.
yeah he the man for us
Could suggest doing a video on the Breakers Hotel , alot of history there. Hopefully maybe?

I love these historic mansions and the stories behind them... Wonder why Ms. Marjorie didn't leave this estate to her family and wonder how they felt when it was hanging in limbo for many years... Would love to hear a story on that...
Marjorie Merriweather Post could never have imagined that her Palm Beach home, Mar-A-Lago, would become as infamous as it is today?? Infamous?? No, FAMOUS!! Foolish to think otherwise...
Je comprends qu'il s'y plaise magnifique propriété à l'emplacement exceptionnel et il a son golf privé !
What a great story!!❤
You guys didn’t talk about the drama between Trump and the City of Palm Beach!
and the flag pole. and that the estate was a wreck and daughter Dina Merill didnt want it.
Very interesting story of this 1920’s built estate! Even the rich Margery Post who built it then willed to the state, then bought by Trump, have all stated it is a property too expensive to keep and maintain!
NYAG says that the property is only worth 12 to 25 million dollars today, and that Trump over valued it in his asset reports.
That's why everyone is laughing at the NYAG, lol.
it generates $50 million in revenue annually. How they Judge can say it’s worth 1/3 its annual revenue makes no sense.
Thank God President Trump bought it. It's awesome! I would love to visit. ❤❤❤

Why is the main building so far away from the coastline? (especially compared to the other mansions nearby)
My President has had this beautiful property for 40 years!! Nice, I have a small home near Sarasota and my goal this year is to go there and walk around my Presidents Monument of Freedom

a place that one his struggling “admirers” will never enter.
According to New York, it's only worth 18 million.
OK, it was interesting listening to Margo but the 1920s was not the height of the great depression that’s the 1930s and this house was built in 1920s if you could publish something, you should look at your historic record
