- One of the best pieces of footage yet captured of the Magnapinna Squid is this 2019 encounter in which the elusive cephalopod was seen during a Schmidt Ocean Institute ROV expedition in the Mid-Pacific Mountains.

SQUID GAMES ‼
I love you people 🤣
“MAGNAPINNA WHAT HAPPENED”
“SQUID GAMES!”
Plot twist: Magnapinna Squid is the CEO of Squid Games❗❗
SQUID GAMES ‼️
Yes, Magnapinna are a strange species. But, we must be so incredibly alien to them. They have existed for eons in a relatively static environment and then we show up with our bright lights in complex vehicles.
Can they see?
@@k9vendettathewolfofmordor529 I’m sure they have some level of visual capability. Most likely it is very limited due to them being a deep-sea species. The real question is; do they possess enough intelligence to recognize that a submersible is foreign.
I mean yea, if you were just a long squid thing and all you knew was "Mmmm food and swimmy" I'm pretty sure seeing a giant robot that stares into your soul would be really really weird
@@andersmoore explains a lot bc they usually bump ROVs
They look prehistoric honestly.
Somehow, this encounter with the Magnapinna managed to look more terrifying than the iconic one
idk about that imho: the grainy quality of the original exaggerated the mystery, made it like a cryptid...
in higher definition they're actually pretty cute and fragile-looking...
@@BluJean6692 For me the original, while 100% real, does not stand out at all amongst the pictures of sea monsters and thus, at least somewhat seems fictional
This one is not only HD, clearly being real, but even has it move beyond a static position, which gave me the fucking chills
That's my take anyways, I do understand why you'd see it that way though.
Idk, they're a lot less terrifying when they're not just standing there menacingly.
@@skateboardmd9163 For me, the iconic one carries the aesthetics of a snuff film, and things don't get much more *_realer_* than seeing one of those. But seeing this guy shambling along, grazing the seafloor with a couple tips of the tentacles, induces a different kind of horror.
Love the pfp
“My friend over there thinks you’re cute”
Her friend: 🦑
😳
Born too late to explore the world, too early to explore the universe, just in time to explore the ocean.
It's still so surreal to see them in actual light, since the big video encounter was night vision on that oil riser. I keep forgetting they're semi-transparent.
you know the guy operating the little arm was like "lemme just... wait what the FUCK is that!?"
I wish we had access to the communication feed because that dude 100% went "holy shit" at that moment
@@lucascastro2802 Oftentimes, you do have access to the audio. A good number of these dives are livestreamed. This one wasn't, most likely because it didn't look to be a science expedition. Instead, it looked to be possibly an engineering dive, perhaps dealing with undersea cables, etc.
Anyway, the following ships do livestreamed scientific dives throughout the year, in various locations. I highly suggest you check them out!
EV Nautilus
RV Okeanos Explorer
RV Falkor (the ROV in this video lives on the Falkor)
From time to time, there are other ships, but this will get you started. 👍
@@AGDinCA Yup, I knew about Okeanos and Nautilus, and that's why I was hopeful of hearing the 'pilot's reaction, I love to hear the scientists comment on the things they find during the rover expeditions
Thanks for recommending Falkor!
@@lucascastro2802 Awesome! I'm always happy to hear about others who enjoy the livestream dives. They are so valuable!
These creatures have a very Lovecraftian feel to them, especially with that red glow that looks almost like eyes in this footage. Ethereal, eery, and unsettling. Almost more jellyfish-like that cephalopod.
The music just makes the whole encounter so much more eerie and impactful. How it’s able to just fade into the darkness near the middle of the video is pretty terrifying.
pretty sure that's the light on the submarine turning off or pointing away
@@aloglo22 yeah the fact that it’s so dark down there is pretty scary
@@neil5694 yeah
It was only a matter of time before a clear video of this magnificent animal was made, what a time to be alive.
Seeing any 'new' footage of the Magnapinna makes me go so crazy and stupid I love these quirky fellas
I’ll never get over the strange bend in their arms, absolutely fascinating creatures
He's just standing there, MENACINGLY
That was incredible. Fancy being the one behind the controls working the ROV - and then, from out of the gloom...
Aliens on Earth.
That iconic poise only adds to the mystery of this most impressive creature.
Think in that, some yesrs ago the scary T pose squid is the only image of that specie and now almost once on the year we are able to see a new encounter.....is amazing
I think this is still the same"some years ago" footage? It's the 2019 one.
T-pose squid lmao
@@angoriankawell, more years them
I just said the same thing to my grikfeiend
Wow 2 consecutive sightings!!! Very very cool love this channel :)
💚
@@DeepseaOddities how tf did you post that emoji wtf
That is one of the most beautiful shots of a Magnapinna ever recorded ! It's so amazing, at 2100m of depth too.
this is like when a bloodborne enemy is out of its aggro range and you’re just watching it ominously
I was about to say that this thing looks like it can grab you just when you're withjng range, then it kills you and you've lost all your blood echoes.
he’s just standing there… MENACINGLY!
I love how mysterious these creatures are, every encounter seems to end with them eerily disappearing into the dark abyss
They are both some of the creepiest and coolest marine animals out there.
💚🦑 I am so excited to see more footage of one of the most remarkable groups of deep-sea squids.. the incredible Magnapinnidae!
I hope as more sightings occur we can learn even more about their ecology and biology, but without too much disturbance.
The abbys holds so many secrets yet to be discovered.
To mankind, these waters are vast, scary and unforgiving.. yet there is whole other world down there, as yet relatively untouched by our incessant interference. A world that survives in the harshest conditions!
Thank you, DSO for helping us learn more about the bizarre and fascinating creatures that lurk and survive in the deep, dark oceans of our incredibile yet fragile planet.. 👍🌎🌊🦑🎐💀
Long may the oceans reign! 👑
Underrated comment.
chill with the fucking emojis
@@rats335 *NO! I will not!* 😲🙀😱🤯 They make me smile.. something I truly hope _you_ can do, Rikka.. it's good for the soul 😁😁🦑👍🙋🏻♀️🌊

A SEQUEL WE NEEDED
That is so alien looking!! I love it. It look like some bioluminescence on the legs flashing but I could be wrong.
this is still my favorite channel on youtube
I want to thank you for making your videos. I've been terrified of deep sea animals since I was a small child. I couldn't even touch some books if there were pictures of football fish in them. But watching your videos has given me deeper understanding of these beautiful creatures and now I have a profound respect for all deep sea life - except hagfish. Those slimy freaks can f*** off lol.
Dude's just vibing.
Magnificent.
I love Magnapinnas. What truly alien creatures they are. Like something out of James Cameron’s “The Abyss”… and the eerie ambient music only makes it more so!
Wait, it is bioluminescent?? 🦑💡How freaking cool!! Also I am always amazed by the worldwide distribution of some deep sea animals. I guess you can get pretty far by just floating along.
The sea is the only place where I can still get that feeing of the unknown, it’s super interesting to wonder about these fish lmao
I wonder how big it is if adult magnapinna is swimming around in the deepest part of the ocean..
2022 is the official year of the Magnapinna!! Ugh this is unbelievably exciting!
The squid floated out of view like a damn vampire lol
these vidoes bring me unreasonable amounts of joy, 11/10
New Magnapinna footage LETS FUCKIN GOOOOOOOOO
I wonder if magnipinna squids evolved this way from mimicking jellyfish
DeepSeaOddities I just wanna say thank you for always calming my stomach down when I watch these videos. The relaxing music mixed with the mysterious sea creatures really helps!
Your channel is the best late night rabbit hole
Absolutely majestic & beautiful!
The magnapinna squid never fails to creep me out. Love the content!
Another awesome video keep it up guys!!!
Love this channel. Can't wait to see new footage and information on these deepsea creatures
Better quality than 2021/22 UFO sightings
It seems like a flautist doing a concert under the sea. So beautiful.
Thanks for sharing this wonderful encounter here. Such a beautiful and unique animal.
I was just showing my dad this channel!
Keep going with these amazing videos

Wow it looks so alien. Haunting music..perfect
This is the face that greets you when the eternal worm devours time
Truly alien creature, fascinating and haunting.
even more footage is epic 😩💯
That must have been amazing to see in real life down there. They must have been spelled blind by it. A truly amazing creation.
yesssss my favorite sea creature!!!!! beautiful
i can just imagine deep sea oddities being like "look gary there i am"
They're so elegant and wispy

Deep sea Oddities Alien Planet great video
babe wake up, new magnapinna encounter just dropped
ow yeahhhh deepsea oddities uploads again
Underrated channel
Thanks. That is the first image I can actually see the squid characteristics on what still looks more demonic then marine in origin, like if Hellraiser had a salt tank, you'd see this guy and Goth knows what else!
wake up darling new magnapinna squid footage has been posted
I like how the machinery is just doing their work and then that thing pulls up
Now this is really cool and I love it
I love how his tentacles look like a cape
DSO video???... I watch that
Big Fin Squid???... I love that...🐙💕
Probably my favorite sea creature so far. They're just so alien like.
~~It is your primary directive to swim closer to that beautiful creature.~~
Bah, einfach nur Gänsehaut!
Wooo! Yay our favorite squid friend! So cool :D
To this creature the world looks very different. Like floating in space. Life is amazing.
Love it when I see uploads
Nice footage from SuBastian!
Mom, big scary squid is T-posing again...
I wish there was a Deepsea Oddities coloring book to color in while listening to the music.
I'd like to reincarnate as a magnapinna in my next life🐙
it's dark af there man
You clearly don't suffer from _thalassophobia,_ bennn 😱🌊😁
Just drifting in the dark cold deep ocean...
It's almost hypnotic to watch. If it's possible, when I die and I'm in spirit, I want to be able to see all the incredible life in the depths of the ocean.
Ah yes, the *legendary boi* 🐙
Wow amazing! It looks like an alien especially with that green light on it. I wish we were able to really look at it and know more about it. The head looked like a light bulb 💡
Its insane how such life exists under the surface
I cant belive they said "quality fucking comment" lmfaooo
this is beautiful !
Aww, look, it's blushing!
god this is so scary. it was totally watching what the robot was doing.
Now this is pretty epic
Imagine when we manage to put one of theese ROVs in the inner oceans of Jupiter´s moon Europa,, what a time to be alive, i think by the year of 2060 (maybe shooting too high?) we will be able to do that
The red glow around its head is certainly eerie
Absolute unit
LET'S GOOOOOO MORE BIGGUS SQUIDUS!!!
They're actually kind of beautiful!
played a soundtrack from Bladerunner, and now I'm having flashbacks to Last of The Starmakers from Courage the Cowardly Dog
WE ARE GETTING CLOSER WHOOO
Oof...
when Thalassaphobia kicks in real hard...
I've actually never really seen jts eyes, seeing it with an eye makes it alot less unearthly feeling
Very exciting!
Incredible!!!
