It's very exciting to see so many new subscribers around here from the recent Magnapinna video, so I thought it'd be a good time to showcase most of the footage of these magnificent animals on the entire channel! For any longtime viewers who have already seen all these, there's also a brand new segment on purple eel gobies
encounter 10 really blew my mind. to me the squid seemed curious, like legitimately puzzled by this strange lightbox and wanted to figure it out. cephalopods are known for their unexpectedly high intelligence, but who knows what was going on inside it's brain? idk these creatures are simply fascinating!
your sound design is absolutely on point. I don't know what i thought 5000ft below sea level would sound like, but then I hear the music in the background of your videos and I go "yep, that's it"
The flapping of their fins and the jet like pulsation of these magnificient squid is so mesmerizing. The oceans depths are such an alienated place to us land dwellers that we would of never of seen if it were not for the ROVs. I do so appreciate seeing the works of these research vehicles. Thank you so much for sharing these footages DSO!💚💯💥
It is amazing that 94% of the Earth's inhabitants live in total darkness in the 70% of our planet, yet thrives. What is more astounding is the little that we know about the 94%. You are correct in the question of what is in the abyss? We may never fully know. That is why people like you, DSO, are so important in educating us thru your videos of the ROV feeds.
Encounter 6 was my favorite. It looked like the squid was not paying attention to where it was going & when it bumped into the ROV & was so surprised & embarrassed about it. 🤣
Mysterious creatures, encounter 10 was my favorite due to the surrealness of seeing one of these things actually grabbing/hanging on to something, really makes you wonder what their hunting behaviors look like
@@go_play_ultrakill_right_now yes, I read the same. I would like to see a video of the Mesonychoteuthis hamiltoni, the colossal squid, that are equipped with swiveling hooks on the tentacle clubs and additional biserial hooks in the middle portions of each arm . Scars found on the heads of sperm whales with Mesonychoteuthis beaks in their stomachs have been tentatively attributed to the squid's formidable hooks, suggesting a capacity for inflicting serious injury if threatened.
I feel like the scariest part is that it look like it's the only thing down there. A bunch of nothingness and suddenly this weird looking thing floats by, then it swims away and we're back to nothing again. Something about that is just so offputting to me
yeah it's wild! assuming those tendrils are just like any other tentacle/ligament, i'd guess it maintains such detailed control using a mix of proprioception and a "vestibular" sense of the currents around it
While watching these alien-looking Magnapinnas, I kept recalling the various UFO/UAP sightings over the years, of craft flying both in to and out of large bodies of water-including oceans-and wondering… I am especially baffled by their long, tubular appendages, on which I can see no suckers ; they appear to be smooth, which does NOT seem squid-like! I wish there were more close-up footage of their swirly-whirly top parts, because they are so impossible to figure out!
To my knowledge a colossal squid has never been caught on camera, which is crazy to me. They are the largest species of cephalopod on earth, we know they exist and even have a vague idea of where they live, but we've never been able to get footage of one. I'd imagine it would be quite surreal & terrifying to see.
These sea creatures are so beautiful to me~ I have a big obsession with Squid, Octopus, and just sea life in general, as terrifying as some of these guys can be they are still beautiful to see
where do you find all of this footage. Is there some sort of repository for ROV/rig cam footage? I'd like to give them a gander even if they are boring
Yet we never find them hunting, mating, sleeping, we only find them just hovering.. staring at our souls making us remember one thing.... never travel light years to find alien like life forms..
Love how they just sucked one of them right into both upper props ripping it apart poor thing 5:12. Bits of tenticals floating around.😨 Bad driver 4 sure!😬
I wonder if we are actually hurting or penamently damaging their eyes by shining a bright light on them, something that has never happened to them and their eyes are evolved to operate at completely different light conditions.
Among the magnapinna, reported sightings of strange, brightly-lit hovering objects are starting to be taken seriously. Some have proposed capturing one and taking it to their underwater lab for DNA testing.

What was an attacking?!
Magnapinna supremacy🛐🛐
i am a big fan of bigfin!
You do amazing videos
I like how some of them just drift and float around like they’ve got nothing better to do.
Sounds kind of nice actually. In no rush, just kind of wafting about, going around as you please

Can't get enough of these creatures. Seems surreal to look at. It just makes me wonder what else resides in the deep. Thank you for the compilation!

I have read that they have suction cups on the ends of their tentacles. I imagine, like an octopus, to investigate and to capture prey.

If you could have a miniature version of any animal for an aquarium, THIS would be a wild one to have. A tiny Orca or Beluga would be pretty awesome.
lol

@Victor Parziale II it would also be pretty dangerous i think. Just imagine if it accidentally pops. Hundreds of casualities and lots of fish meat
Who says aliens are in space? They're right here on earth, 6000ft below us.
Been saying this since I found out about magnapinna
Npc unoriginal comment
No that’s a squid kiddo
Or 7000
@@su9cp no one gives a fucking shit
That first clip is the first time I’ve seen this squid in such detail and hey it actually looks like a squid!
Ikr? Not as freaky when you see it's just a squid with long tentacles. Even though it will always be kind of freaky.
A video all about the long boi, love to see it
“hey jerry you’ll never believe what i saw, a hunk of metal blinded me” 😂
squid 6 be like "bruh this is the deep ocean, I'm not supposed to run into things"
Been of fan of this creature since learning about it from the Octonauts. Love your channel!👍
Same!
So eerily beautiful, the Magna Pinna is my favorite squid.
i love these weird ass creatures
I love how it's just drifting across the screen in the second one
I'm so fascinated by these things they're so strange~ how can they control their tentacles so quickly like that
Didint think of that
Was literally thinking the same thing, like out in all directions with weird arcs of control, straight WILD
yeah it's wild! assuming those tendrils are just like any other tentacle/ligament, i'd guess it maintains such detailed control using a mix of proprioception and a "vestibular" sense of the currents around it
It feels ever fibre of its being as do you. It feels.
The "attack" encounter, that squids tentacles were moving 5 meters per second, easy.

Finally a complilation
Any chance of a colossal squid or giant squid compilation?
Or do we have even less videos of them than the magnapinna?
I don't think I've ever seen any live colossal squid footage period! Giant squids, yes, I do have some work to do there. Stay tuned🦑
Those squids are fascinating
@@DeepseaOddities Maybe some Humboldt squid then? I'm sure there's plenty of footage of those ones.
Isn't the Humboldt squid the one people eat most of the time?

From the most well-known footage, i swear to god they look gigantic
but from the footage from RC subs they look so smol!
The juvenile squid looks like a flood from Halo
So otherworldly and majestic :)
Gran compilación:D!!
Everybody's favorite Alien Squid has return once again! ^_^
Perfect! Just what I need 🥰
please do a compilation on Elusive Giant Phanthom Jellyfish, also very rare, very fascinating
I was sad but now I'm watching cool squid
all is good
Magnapinna is all you need sometimes!
For some reason I wonder what they would look like as their final form
Imagine this guy flying through the sky zapping people with electricity and controlling their minds
I'm not gonna lie it's kind of funny when it slowly waltzes across the screen in encounter 2. really be like 🚶
I'm always reminded of the Vortex creatures from the old Ecco the Dolphin series whenever I see these.
Looooong loooong maaaaaaaaaaaan
I really like magnipinna squids their so majestic and alien and so beautiful

What year was encounter 6 and 7 taken place?
The date on the actual footage is very blurry, but I think 2000? the date looks to say either 01/25/00 or 01/25/88.
