    Sick highlights showing what you are talking about🤘

      Surprisingly hard for some of them (didn't have any good fights showing the camera issues at the top of a staircase, for example) but new footage comes in all the time. Eventually the backlog will be big enough. :)

    Never really thought about "line of sight" as a thing. Useful even chatmanding.

      @sheffplaysgames  Рік тому

      It's even more useful for chatmanding because it buys you some time to type out your next instructions. :P

    Sweet guide, hopefully we get more fight oriented commanders out of this series which is usually the limiting factor for good fights! Bit of a missed opportunity to bring up stealth when discussing line of sight but perhaps you plan to cover it at length in another video?

    • @sheffplaysgames
      @sheffplaysgames  Рік тому +1

      Definitely. Stealth is really just Veil these days, but it's definitely important. I think eventually there's going to be a video about how to initiate a fight, and that's where stealth usage is going to live, along with some other things about when to push, when to pull off, when and where to spike. No concrete plans yet though.

    Wasnt sure to ask this here or on a newer vid, but it lines up here more
    .
    If there are multiple tags, say 34 and 15 ppl like this vid's example,
    1. Is it frowned upon to ask the smaller squad to have a hidden tag?
    2. Ask the tags to unite and instead split parties within?
    3. If not, is it better for the second tag to stay on the larger tag? Or can any advantage be gained using two smaller organized positions over one large one?
    4. Also in this case, how is it best to coordinate multiple squads discords voice comms? Or do you just read the field?

      This is a great question, and probably something that I can talk about in a later video. I don't think I'm going to do it justice as a UA-cam comment. The biggest overall rule -- asking a squad to change what it's doing is always fine, but you need to be prepared to take no for an answer, and not force other groups to do something different. But as a more involved (but brief) response:
      1. Usually, no. If a squad is showing a public tag, it means that squad has a goal that they are working on. If you're the 35 man squad, and your players are getting confused by two tags, that's a player problem -- they need to be paying more attention to who the commander is.
      2. No. Different commanders have different goals and squad compositions. Folding all tags into one squad can make it difficult for the players in those squads to operate. Plus, there's times that having two tags is beneficial -- for example, the smaller squad could work on flipping camps and towers, while the larger squad works on keeping a defending force occupied in a larger objective, like a tower.
      3. 40 players in two 20-man squads, as long as the commanders are working well together, are a more difficult group to beat than a single 40-man squad. The smaller tags alternate pushing and spiking, giving the larger group no room to recover cooldowns, health, or dodges. On the other hand, two commanders not working well together are very easy to beat with a single 40-man squad, because the larger group can wait for one of the smaller groups to make a mistake and separate themselves too far, and then wipe them up. Going back to your first point, though -- sometimes you may want to ask the smaller tag to sit out. Let's say you're 30, your opponent is 30, and you have a second tag on map with 15 people. You shouldn't need that extra 15 people to fight, and you may want to ask them not to add to fights to keep the odds fairly even.
      4. Voice comms haven't been used to collaborate across commanders for almost a decade now. It was a thing during Seasons, but barely happens now. About 90% of me working with other commanders is just reading their movements, and expecting them to be able to read mine. But if there's any issues with that, or I'm going to do something atypical, I'll either say chat or whisper the other commander to let them know.

      @@sheffplaysgames thanks for taking the time and thought to answer these. Yeah, with this being an older vid others might not see you discuss this.
      I'm not a commander myself, but was curious as a player recently returned after 10 years. So thanks!
      Another thing I find intriguing is your sense of gamesmanship in your answer of not needing more people to keep the odds closer. It puts more onus on the fight itself over the objective (kinda like MechWarrior honor?). On my server the tag seems to be about flipping objectives. Occasionally we'll save something if it's tiered up.

      @@kencollins2002 If you're too big for an enemy group to fight, then they float maps, or tag down. I don't like telling people on my server they aren't allowed to play, but if there's other things for them to do, I'll ask if we can have even fights while they do something else. Otherwise enemies refuse to fight you because you're too big, and nobody has fun.

      I use this: gw2skills.net/editor/?PKyEIiNssAmI7jZxOxU+y+ZB-z1IY6om/MyUKEzKQjDAA-w, but it's tailored to our group, and you should feel free to change it around to get it to a point that works for you. The biggest things are just making sure you have enough sources of stability, stunbreaks, and resistance to allow you to move around freely.

      Happy to help! I'm going to work on setting up the commanding review section of the Discord over the weekend if either of you would like to chat about it further, but asking questions here is also totally fine.
