Text:
Ogni sera di sotto al mio balcone
Underneath my balcony every evening
Sento cantar una canzone d'amore,
I hear a love-song,
Più volte la ripete un bel garzone
Repeated several times by a handsome young man
E battere mi sento forte il core,
And it makes my heart beat faster.
Oh quanto è dolce quella melodia!
O how sweet is that melody!
Oh com' è bella, quanto m' è gradita!
O how pretty, how I love to hear it!
My mother will not let me sing it,
Vorrei saper perché me l'ha proibita?
Though why she would forbid me, I don't know.
Ella non c'è ed io la vo' cantare
Now that she is out I am going to sing
La frase che m'ha fatto palpitare:
The song that I found so exciting.
Vorrei baciare i toui capelli neri,
I'd like to kiss your raven hair,
Your lips and your solemn eyes;
Vorrei morir con te, angel di Dio,
I would want to die with you, O heavenly angel,
O bella innamorata tesor mio.
My beautiful beloved, precious jewel.
Qui sotto il vidi ieri a passeggiare,
Yesterday I saw him walking by,
E lo sentiva al solito cantar:
And heard him sing as he always does:
Vorrei baciare i tuoi capelli neri,
I'd like to kiss your raven hair,
Your lips and your solemn eyes!
Stringimi, o cara, stringimi al tuo core,
Clasp me, darling, clasp me to your heart,
Fammi provar l'ebbrezza dell'amor.
Let me feel the ecstasy of love!
Riposa in pace maestro.
The most beautiful voice I've ever heard ❤❤
And Musica Proibita is the most beautiful melody ever
Quella voce bronzata, maschile, rotonda. Meraviglioso.
Such a celestial voice.
How sad no one ever mentions the name of musicians.
Ma ognuno giudica secondo criteri personali...anzi personalissimi
Nessuno la canta come lui!
There are tears in my eyes; every time my soul is filled with his voice and humanity.when I hear it. Caruso is a calming balm. If I’m overstating it, it’s because I’m overwhelmed.
His singing has a calming influence on me. I usually listen to him when I get upset. It really calms me down.
So very well said!
What a stunning voice this man had!
No you not overstating it I feel exactly the same
He got famous in his twenties, so he'll be in his twenties forever.
No not really. He became famous in his thirties and died when he was 48.
@@tomfroekjaer I was referring to the writer of the romance not the singer.

No one sings this better than Caruso. A simple song made great by the master. Most singers over sing this song. Caruso gets your attention from the very beginning with the utter beauty of his voice and the complete absence of any forcing, then gradually builds to the wonderful climax. Caruso is one of those singers who always respects the song, an absence of ego in the singing. Bjorling had the same trait.
Bjorling, di Stefano and Caruso the diamonds of the 20th century!
Semplicemente magnifico!
Enrico ''s voice was the best ever....
a good person , and a good heart ..
Voci unica magica, fuori da ogni tempo. Perfetta
Now it has been 40 years since I first heard the voice of Caruso. I met many who heard him and now they are all gone. We are now at an age where many of his recordings have passed well over the 100 year mark. I for one as I grow older marvel even more than I did in 1971 when I first heard him and thought "My God". Now 40 years later I am just as awestruck. Now we have entered into the 2nd decade of the 21st century and it is our turn to watch the young say the same thing as we did so long ago.
Secoli.......
Enrico Caruso sei nel mio cuore❤
Simplemente un divo inigualable ! El más grande de todos los tiempos !
The best voice I ever heard
Good job , Thank you
As an opera-lover since the age of 5, I'm so thrilled to be able to listen to all this wonderful music. Thank you so much, Tom, for sharing Caruso with us, I can't have enough of him! Thanks and greetings from Norway. 56Yeya
Thank you very much for taking the time to do this wonderful job.
My father listened to Caruso alive in Mexico City back in the 1920's and he said that he sang without a microphone and could be heard in the whole bullfight ring where he performed.
Now my father has passed away, but I am certain that he enjoys this music as much as I do, wherever he is.
Once again, THANK YOU.
Absolutely beautiful.Caruso's interpretations&vocal line were impeccable.
Caruso is here more leggero if you compared him with Monaco

La cantava sempre mia madre questa melodia! Grazie!
my late father introduced me to operatic singers in 60's mainlyTenors Lanza, Bjorling, Gigli but the king is still Caruso.
Best of the best!!!
Una vera e pura emozione! Grande ed immortale grande tenore!
I first heard Caruso in 1971. Now near 40 years later I can still feel the thrill when first I heard him on a Victor record. I asked every person I could find who had heard him to tell me all about it. I was lucky that way, to at least hear from those who heard him live. He has brought more joy into my life than I can mention. In the year 2237 they will be talking about Caruso, He is not of the past, present, or future. He just is and will always be like a natural wonder of life itself.
O, quanto è dolce quella melodia! E quella voce.
BRIVIDI. Grazie Enrico.
His tone, technique and heart are glorious,
John
Nowadays we have so many outstanding things, like the sound of music we can hear... maybe we grew accustomed to improve so it became the norm, The music didn´t sound like this back in the fifties and i wonder how is it that our "old timers" really loved this music, so much, that everything had to stop! Shus!! granpa is listening to his music, go somewhere and play, do not interrupt...it was their moment and now 60 years after, I find myself coming back to listen to what granpa used to listen so attentively;

I am not a musician like you but I am grateful to persons, experts in this field, who explain important details.
I knew for example that Caruso came from a poor family but I did not know that he had less than two years of formal schooling as Tom said in his comments. Considering this and the perfection, the refinement of his deeply heart-felt interpretations I had to conclude that he was endowed with a divine talent as other geniuses.
Greetings.
Beautiful
Che emozione!!. Immenso Maestro ENRICO CARUSO
Grande! Finale splendido!
@CanadaPisces
Oh, how beautiful! Thank you, James and Tom.
I can only say "thank you" again, Tom. This brings back so many happy memories of hours spent together with my father and uncle, who introduced me to music in general and opera in particular.
+Maik1947 You are very welcome!

I noticed that Caruso expressed with his voice all "the soul" of the text and of the melody with extreme perfection, communicating it totally to the listeners. When two days ago I listened for the first time to his interpretation of Musica Proibita I was even more astonished: an incredible range of tones and colours of his extremely expressive voice that make the listener ecstatic. Kievest says better than me: "But it is the soulful singing, the open hearted singing by that uniquely beautiful
"Caruso sing the soul of the melody..." R. Strauss.
This is one of my favourite songs by Caruso, it never fails to impress me. For me he will always be the greatest.
Greatest ever
With Caruso in my ears and in my heart it is so hard for me to appreciate the tenors of present days! I am and will remain a laudator temporis acti

DIVINE ARTIST!
I heard this incredible beautiful interpretation of Caruso for the first time last evening and I was stunned!
Now I understand why he has become a legend. A "multidimensional voice",extraordinary technique but not only this!
As Robert Becker writes:"For me, Heart is probably Caruso Greatest attribute!!!!!!!!! It is what speaks to people over the decades and century, it is his Great Heart that we all listen to."
Absolutely beautiful! Then again, what else can you expect from the best singer of all time. 13 dislikes!!! Must be Irishmen from New York City. Or maybe Rolling Stones fans. Another great version of this beautiful song is by Tito Gobbi, my favorite singer. Not in the class of Caruso, but I wish I had his voice
Amazing grace.
Thank you so much for sharing
Absolutely outstanding remastering. I've never heard Caruso sound this good - and I've heard originals of every disc he made.
thanks for the post . and thanks to mister caruso, the voice of god,for shows how the art sounds
BRAVO!!
Es incomparable grande por siempre
UNA ROMANZA LIRICA DAI VERSI STRUGGENTI
UN'INTERPRETAZIONE DIVINA DAL GRANDE DEI GRANDI!
Condivido totalmente....
wonderful !
questa voce ha rivoluzionata la lirica .
divino .
What a beautiful song, and celestially sung by this superb human being. I have always been a Gigli afficianado. I can see where Beniamino is coming from. Beautiful bel-canto singing.
This is Caruso with - again - in a beautiful interpretation of this song. To me, his talent lies in being able to reproduce the same line with totally different feelings. Note how he sings «Vorrei bacciar...» at 2:14, like he's lightly flirting with the girl in a garden full of flowers, then at 3:05, he revisits the same line with utter passion and almost darkness in the voice leading to the A and the finish with «l'ebbrezza del amor!» (the intoxication - like drunkenness - of love).
Sublime voce!!!
Wow! How lucky to have discovered this performance!
My mother's preferred song and my eyes becoming moist..tks for upoading!
Assai bella!
Tom, I hadn't listened to this beauty is quite a while; now, I can't stop the tears from flowing. Tender, beautiful, and powerful, all at the same time. My son, who is a big opera fan and loves Bjorling, is finally coming around to the incredible tenor who was Enrico Caruso.
I think they are both great, Bjorling has one of the finest voices of the 20th century. His only other rivals in my humble opinion, are Caruso and di Stefano. We will probably not see the likes of these great singers again. Pavarotti was great, the young Johnathan Antonie is very good, but the pickings are slim!
incredibly beautiful.
Caruso was del monacos idol, and mario sang this neapolitan very well also
Best of the best !!!!!
Caruso es un inmortal voz superior

" An intuitive genious with extraordinary empathetic abilities - wonderfully expressed here and in almost all of his recordings."says Tom Frøkjær and I agree completly.
Thank you,Tom, for sharing this precious jewel that gives us joy with his immense, timeless beauty.

Sensazionale , emozionante ... CARUSO!!!
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO!!!
Ó CARUSO, THE ANGELS THANKS!!! When i listen you and AMELITA GALLI CURCI i enter in spiritual ascension.
love love love!!!
I thank you, jd1906sf ! Caruso's art is timeless and communicates just as powerfully as 100 years ago.
And along with it goes the touching story of how the kid from the slums of Naples, who went to school for just two years, rose to become probably the greatest tenor all times. His talent, hard work, charisma and not least his heart made him the standard for all to come.
many of us are happy to hear some of our heroes, led by Caruso in technically improved recordings, Bravo to technology.JRT
This has given Caruso a new coat of paint. He's never sounded lovlier.
D'accordo

I would come home from playing music at NJ niteclubs, at 3 am, put my Caruso 78's and LP's. His multi-dimensional voice and technique was overwhelming! My mother (97 yrs.) heard him at the old Met with her Italian father in 1918. My wish is to hear him in heaven on his best day, and confirm what I always suspected, he was and is truly the best ever!

I remember in my childhood when I was very young, my father sang "Music Prohibita" and I listened with delight.

GRANDE !
BELLÍSIMA CANCIÓN QUE SURGE DE LOS TIEMPOS, EN LA VOZ INIGUALABLE DEL GRAN TENOR ENRICO cARUSO. LA RESTAURACIÓN DE ESTA JOYA MUSICAL ES NOTABLE Y LOS AMANTES DEL BEL CANTO LO AGRADECEMOS SINCERAMENTE.
